TVS Apache RTR 165 RP
General information and overview
The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is a special edition motorcycle designed with a strong focus on performance and exclusivity. With a 164.9cc single-cylinder oil-cooled engine, it produces 18.9 bhp of power at 10,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm of torque at 8,750 rpm, making it more potent than the standard Apache RTR 160 4V. The engine modifications include larger valves and revised cam profiles, which significantly enhance the bikes top-end performance. The motorcycle retains the same styling as the standard model but with new decals, and it features a fully digital instrument cluster, LED headlight and taillight, and a single-channel ABS. The handling is nimble and agile, making it suitable for both city riding and spirited highway cruising. However, it lacks some features like riding modes and Bluetooth connectivity, which might be a disappointment for some buyers. Overall, the Apache RTR 165 RP is a unique offering that combines high performance with exclusivity, making it an attractive option for serious biking enthusiasts.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is a niche product that caters to a specific set of riders who crave high-performance and a unique ownership experience. While it retains the comfort and everyday rideability of the standard Apache RTR 160 4V, it stands out with its enhanced engine performance, thanks to larger valves, revised cam profiles, and a slightly larger displacement. The bike feels exhilarating above 6,000 rpm, making it a joy for those who enjoy revving the engine. However, it lacks some features that one might expect at its premium price, such as riding modes, Bluetooth connectivity, and a gear position indicator. Despite these omissions, the Apache RTR 165 RP is a compelling choice for enthusiasts who value its exclusivity and racing pedigree, but it may not be the best fit for everyone due to its higher cost and specialized nature.
Recent news and announcements
The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP has been launched in India with a starting price of Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom). This naked street bike features a 164.9cc oil-cooled engine, producing 19.2 HP and 14.2 Nm of torque. It also comes with USD telescopic front forks and a stubbier Bullpup exhaust. I think this update makes the bike more appealing to enthusiasts looking for a sporty ride.
The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP boasts an all-digital console, adjustable clutch and brake levers, and a race-tuned slipper clutch. It also includes premium features like TVS Racing Decals, an aggressive tank cowl, and Eurogrip ProtorQ SR Racing Spec Radial Tyres. These additions make it a strong contender in the 160cc segment. I believe these features will attract riders who value both performance and style.
The on-road price of the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP varies across cities, with prices ranging from Rs 1.67 lakh in Delhi to Rs 1.73 lakh in Mumbai. This pricing makes it competitive with other bikes in its class, such as the Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and Suzuki Gixxer 150. I think the pricing strategy will help TVS capture a significant market share.
The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is available in a single color option, Sepang Blue, which gives it a distinctive look. The bikes design includes an aggressive headlamp with a signature front position lamp (FPL) and a premium seat design with an emblem. I believe the limited color option might be a strategic move to maintain a unique identity for this model.
TVS has equipped the Apache RTR 165 RP with a double cradle synchro stiff chassis, enhancing its stability and handling. This, combined with the oil-cooled engine and ram air assist cooling system, makes the bike suitable for both city rides and short highway trips. I think this chassis design will provide a smooth riding experience.
Pricing details and changes
TVS Apache RTR 165 RP on road price is Rs 1.67 lakh in Delhi, Rs 1.73 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 1.69 lakh in Kolkata and Rs 1.71 lakh in Chennai. The prices mentioned here are approximate and we suggest you contact your nearest TVS dealership to get the exact on-road price quote in your city.
The TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh ex-showroom, which is significantly higher than the costliest variant of the Apache RTR 160 4V by over Rs 20,000. On-road prices can vary depending on the state and local taxes, but you can expect to pay around Rs 1.65 lakh to Rs 1.75 lakh once all the additional costs are factored in. This premium pricing is largely due to the limited production run of just 200 units, which adds to the bikes exclusivity. For those who are willing to pay a premium for a unique and high-performance motorcycle, the price might be justified, but for others, it could be a deterrent.
Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentage for the State Registration Charges.
Fuel efficiency information
The mileage of the TVS Apache RTR 165 RP is a trade-off for its enhanced performance. With a focus on delivering higher power output, the bikes fuel efficiency takes a hit. While the exact mileage figures are not explicitly stated, it is clear that the bike is designed for riders who prioritize performance over fuel economy. In practical terms, you can expect the mileage to be slightly lower than the standard Apache RTR 160 4V, likely in the range of 35-40 kmpl in city riding conditions and around 45 kmpl on the highway. This makes it less suitable for those who are looking for a fuel-efficient commuter but perfect for enthusiasts who are willing to compromise on mileage for the thrill of riding a high-performance bike. It is the only thing that comes close to the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 naked street bike with 200 cc engine and at a similar price range.
Soon we can expect an ABS and Fi version in the Indian market. Does anybody know when ?
This is a great street bike on performance parameters but i wish they had made this model a little more aggressive. Overall this is a good product , an upgeade over the Apache RTR 160.
