Mahindra Gusto 125 DX

About
The Mahindra Gusto 125 DX is a commuter scooter designed with practicality and comfort in mind. It is powered by a 109cc engine that produces 8 BHP of power and 9 Nm of torque, making it adept for city riding. One of its standout features is the height-adjustable seat mechanism, which allows riders to adjust the seat height by 40 mm, a boon for riders of different heights. The scooter also features a telescopic front suspension and a single monoshock rear suspension, providing a smooth ride quality. The Gusto 125 DX has good braking capabilities, although it lacks a front disc brake. It comes equipped with MRF tyres that offer good grip. While it has some performance and comfort advantages, the scooters weight and subsequent impact on fuel efficiency are notable drawbacks to consider. Overall, it is a solid option for those seeking a feature-rich commuter scooter with good ride quality and comfort.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Mahindra Gusto 125 DX is a mixed bag when it comes to its overall performance and features. On the positive side, it boasts a height-adjustable seat mechanism, which is a unique and useful feature, especially for riders of varying heights. The scooter also offers good comfort with well-bolstered seats and ample legroom, making it suitable for daily commuting. The ride quality is commendable thanks to its telescopic front suspension and single monoshock rear suspension, which handle bumps effectively. However, the scooter falls short in terms of mileage, with an average fuel efficiency of around 32-35 kml, which is lower than many of its competitors. Additionally, issues such as hard starting and occasional stalling need to be addressed. Despite these drawbacks, the Gusto 125 DX is a feature-loaded option that offers good performance and comfort, making it a viable choice for those looking for a commuter scooter.
Price
The Mahindra Gusto 125 DX is priced competitively in the Indian market. As of my last update, the ex-showroom price for the Gusto 125 DX typically ranges between 60,000 to 65,000, depending on the region and any local taxes. On-road prices, which include registration, insurance, and other costs, can range from 70,000 to 75,000. While the pricing is attractive, its essential to consider the overall value for money, including the scooters features, performance, and running costs. The additional weight of the scooter, which affects its fuel efficiency, is a factor to consider when evaluating the long-term cost of ownership.
Latest Updates
Wednesday, 01 April 2020 04:03 AM The Mahindra Gusto 125 DX, though discontinued in April 2020, was once a notable contender in the 125cc scooter segment. It featured a 124.6cc, 4-stroke engine producing 8.6bhp and 10Nm of torque. The scooter was known for its fuel efficiency, offering a mileage of 50 kmpl. I think its discontinuation was a loss for those looking for a reliable and efficient scooter.
Tuesday, 20 September 2016 02:43 AM Despite its strong features and competitive pricing, the Mahindra Gusto 125 DX faced stiff competition from other scooters like the Honda Activa 125 and Suzuki Access 125. This competitive landscape made it challenging for the Gusto 125 DX to gain significant market share.
Wednesday, 10 August 2016 06:26 AM Mahindra also highlighted the comfort features of the Gusto 125 DX, including a height-adjustable seat and a quick storage pocket below the instrument console. These features enhanced the overall riding experience. I think these small touches made a big difference in user satisfaction.
Friday, 15 July 2016 12:53 AM The engine of the Gusto 125 DX was part of Mahindras Z-series, known for its reliability and performance. The 124.6cc engine was air-cooled and used a carburettor for fuel delivery. This setup ensured consistent performance in various riding conditions.
Wednesday, 01 June 2016 02:28 PM The Gusto 125 DX was available in two main variants: DX and VX. The DX variant was the more affordable option, priced at Rs. 50,680. This pricing strategy helped Mahindra target a broader audience.
Friday, 20 May 2016 12:12 PM Mahindra emphasized the fuel efficiency of the Gusto 125 DX, claiming it could deliver up to 50 kmpl. This was a significant selling point, especially in a market where fuel costs are a major concern. I believe this made it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers.
Sunday, 10 April 2016 02:09 PM The scooter came with an analogue speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge, along with an LED tail light and halogen headlamp. These features made it a practical choice for daily use. The addition of find-me lamps and guide lamps was also a thoughtful touch.
Tuesday, 15 March 2016 01:36 AM In terms of safety, the Gusto 125 DX offered a 130mm mechanical drum brake at the rear, with an option for a front disc brake in other variants. However, the DX model stuck to drum brakes for both front and rear. Despite this, it was still a reliable choice for urban riding. I think the braking system could have been improved for better safety.
Wednesday, 03 February 2016 06:53 AM The Mahindra Gusto 125 DX was equipped with a tubular underbone chassis and featured 90/90-12-inch front and rear tubeless tyres. The suspension included telescopic with air spring at the front and coil type, hydraulic mono shock absorber at the rear. This setup provided a smooth ride, which was a plus for daily commuters.
Tuesday, 12 January 2016 09:20 AM Mahindra Two-wheelers launched the Gusto 125 DX in January 2016, aiming to strengthen its presence in the two-wheeler market. The scooter was priced at Rs. 50,680 and came in various colors like Volcanic Red, Magnetic Magenta, and Galactic Black. It boasted features like a height-adjustable seat and a multi-function remote flip key fob. I believe the design was a strong point, making it appealing to many buyers.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 03:50 AM The mileage of the Mahindra Gusto 125 DX is a significant concern for potential buyers. With an average fuel efficiency of 32-35 kml, it lags behind many of its competitors in the same segment. The heavier weight of the scooter contributes to this lower mileage, which can increase running costs over time. If mileage is a top priority, you might want to consider other options. However, if you value the unique features and comfort offered by the Gusto 125 DX, you may find it worth the slightly higher fuel costs.

Worst Bike I Have Mahindra Gusto

More at service station than home, spent lot of money on repairs, fed up with bike, just 5 years old. Waste of money, please don't buy it, even second hand if you are getting for throw away price, Mahindra is ok in 4 wheeler sector not in two wheelers.

Best Features: Nothing is best in Mahindra Gusto

Pros: Nothing is good

Mahindra Gusto 125

Ever since I have purchased this piece of shit, I regret my decision of buying this. Mileage is pathetic it is as low as a small car ~ 25-30 km. Per litre. Engine performance is below par, repetitive trouble making the engine. In just 3 years, the mechanic has told me to get the Cylinder Block & Piston changed. Apart from cost issues, the bigger issue is unavailability of parts and dedicated service centres even in metros. No mechanic I have come across consoling me for my decision of buying this filthy piece of shit but laughed at me for this senseless decision as if its poor performance is a universal truth... Mahindra,s should not have forayed in TW segment at the cost of public money. I am sorry to say but now I have little respect for Brand Mahindra.

Best Features: Nothing to mention apart from Height Adjustable feature

Pros: Height Adjustable

Cons: Worst Mileage ~30, Worst after Sales Service, Limited Dealer Network, Poor engine performance, Chronic engine issues from starting, In short total waste of Money

A Good Product From Mahindra's Kitty

The overall experience of driving this scooter is good. It is the first scooter in India that comes with a unique height-adjustable seat. Since I am a little shorter, I have always had a problem riding these vehicles, but Gusto has solved that problem for me. On rough roads, the ride quality is nice so no need to worry about potholes. 12 inches tubeless tyres offer you good handling. The engine is well balanced and I have used this scooter in crowded areas and I get average of 45 to 48 kmpl. It is quite light weight so it is easy to handle. It has 130mm drum brakes which offer adequate performance but not the best feel. The price is also reasonable which can easily fit to middle class person. It comes loaded with an innovative pocket-like storage facility just under the display panel. It's thoughtfully designed and as the name suggests, it has a quick and easy access. The looks are also impressive and can easily allure anyone's attention.

Best Features: Good handling

Pros: Good handling, good value for money, comfortable pillion seat, light weight

Cons: No drawbacks

One of the best scooter with many features

I am using Mahindra Gusto from last few months. I can proudly say this is the scooter for every height person. It comes with seat height adjustment feature which I never seen in any other scooter. Looks are amazing, it is neither too big nor too small. I like its styling and comfort of course. My sister who is 5 feet, she drive it confidently after setting seat height. One more impressive feature it got is storage near the speedometer. It is very convenient for mobile, as I never missed a call while driving now. Ride quality is good on rough roads. Its tyres offer good grip and most importantly, I am getting 50 kmpl average after first service. On the other side, its seat height adjustment somehow make the storage capacity less in some cases. And many of my friends also doubt its build quality. Though I have no idea about it yet.

Pros: Looks, price, Mileage, Comfort, Storage space

Cons: Nothing
