KTM introduced the 790 Duke in India back in 2019 which changed the way we perceived mid-displacement streetfighters. The 790 was fast, light, and razor-sharp, hence the nickname ‘Scalpel’. It was only a matter of time before KTM introduced a larger, much faster version of the Scalpel -- the 890 Duke. The streetfighter has finally been unveiled globally and here’s how it compares to its younger sibling. The engine’s obviously the biggest change here. It packs an 889cc, LC8c, parallel-twin rather than the previous 789cc unit.

KTM will pull the wraps of one of its new bikes today. The company will unveil the base model of the 890 Duke. This motorcycle is likely to get the similar design language but could get less fancier paint scheme and stickers. This bike will also get lower spec brakes, suspension, tyres and electronics. In fact, this bike is likely to replace the 790 Duke in some markets like US and Europe.

Friday, 05 May 2023 04:02 PM Buyers have the option to purchase a 2021 KTM Duke 890 at a lower price in 2023, saving around Rs. 1.5 lakh compared to the 2023 model. However, there are concerns about the tires becoming dry and less tenacious over time. I think this could be a good deal for those on a budget, but its crucial to inspect the tires before making a purchase.
Tuesday, 18 October 2022 01:49 PM The 2023 KTM 890 DUKE R has seen no major updates apart from a new Atlantic Blue colorway. This model retains its sporty credentials with a dynamic, loadbearing tubular chassis and adjustable WP APEX suspension for both front and rear. The bike also features Brembo Stylema monoblock calipers and MICHELIN Powercup II hypersport tires. I think the lack of significant updates might disappoint some, but the existing features still make it a top choice for performance enthusiasts.
Friday, 15 April 2022 11:31 AM For the 2022 model year, the KTM 890 DUKE R continues to impress with its lightweight, light-alloy wheels and a subframe made of cast aluminum, which reduces complexity and weight. The bikes suspension has been tuned for sportier handling while maintaining real-world street riding comfort. I believe these design choices make the 890 DUKE R a versatile and appealing option for both track and street riders.
Friday, 15 April 2022 08:25 PM KTM has offered a Tech Pack for the 890 DUKE models, which includes features like cruise control, heated grips, and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). This pack is available at a discounted price if purchased at the time of the bikes purchase. I think this is a great value addition, especially for riders who prioritize comfort and convenience.
Friday, 15 April 2022 01:36 PM The KTM 890 DUKE R is known for its high-performance brakes, featuring Brembo Stylema monoblock calipers and lighter 320 mm floating disks. This setup enhances the bikes braking performance significantly. I believe the attention to detail in the braking system is a testament to KTMs commitment to delivering top-notch performance.

FAQs

Most Popular FAQs for KTM Duke 890
  • Why does the KTM Duke 890 sport an overblown electronics package?

    10 January 2025 10:24

But I love having all the options, particularly for track days. The ability to be able to fine-tune TC and ABS is a game changer for pushing your limits safely.

  • What can one do with the KTM Duke 890?

    10 January 2025 10:24

Be careful with ECU tuning. I’ve heard horror stories about people bricking their bikes. If you are going to tinker with a KTM, stick with reputable tuners who know KTMs.

  • The KTM Duke 890—is it too much bike for newer riders, or can they handle it?

    10 January 2025 10:24

Some new riders have done fine on 890s, and some experienced riders have gotten themselves in over their heads. It’s less about the bike and more about the person.

  • Is it worth worrying about reliability on the KTM Duke 890?

    10 January 2025 10:24

Absolutely worth it! I've had my 890 over a year now with zero issues, and it's been a blast. It's unreal how it handles and how addictive the power delivery is. You just have to stay on top of the maintenance.

  • In real-world riding, how does the KTM Duke 890 compare to its rivals?

    10 January 2025 10:24

If you’re just looking for pure commuting, I’d honestly give the edge to something like the Z900. The 890 is amazing, but it seems too much to use in stop-and-go traffic.

  • What does the extra cost get you with the KTM Duke 890 R's electronics package?

    10 January 2025 10:16

If you can afford it, the R is the one that I would recommend. You will not use all the features right now, but you will enjoy them when you are good.

  • Reliability-wise, how does the KTM Duke 890 R compare to its Japanese rivals?

    10 January 2025 10:16

They have come a long way, but they are not up to Japanese reliability standards. It’s sweet handling, but you’re giving up some peace of mind.

  • Is the KTM Duke 890 R good for long-distance touring?

    10 January 2025 10:16

For weekend trips, it’s fine, but I wouldn’t want to cross the country on it. After a few hours, the wind blast gets tiring.

  • Does the KTM Duke 890 R live up to its ‘scalpel’ nickname on the track?

    10 January 2025 10:16

It's a jack of all trades, but master of none. Good on track, but not great. But it’s more fun than most bikes you’ll find out there.

  • Is the KTM Duke 890 R an upgrade worth the upgrade from a 390 Duke?

    10 January 2025 10:16

I honestly believe that it's overkill for most riders. There’s plenty of bike for the street in the 390, and you’re not going to be using the 890’s full potential.
