Husqvarna Svartpilen 401

About
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is a significant upgrade over its predecessors, now offering a more spacious and comfortable riding experience. The bike is powered by a 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that produces 46hp and 39Nm of torque, identical to the KTM 390 Duke. This engine is paired with a close-ratio six-speed gearbox and features a quickshifter, making it a blast to ride. The suspension, comprising an adjustable WP fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock, handles both small bumps and larger undulations effectively. The Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres provide excellent grip both on and off-road, though the tube-type design may be a concern for some. The bike also features a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity available as an accessory. With its rugged yet stylish design, the Svartpilen 401 is a great choice for riders looking for a fun, capable, and uniquely styled motorcycle.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is a compelling alternative to the KTM 390 Duke, offering a unique blend of style, performance, and comfort. The bikes design, though retaining its Swedish minimalism, has been refined to be more spacious and accessible, especially for larger riders. The 399cc engine, shared with the KTM 390 Duke, delivers explosive performance and tractability, making it a joy to ride both in city traffic and on open roads. However, the use of tube-type tyres and the absence of certain electronic features like lean angle sensitivity and riding modes might be a drawback for some. Overall, the Svartpilen 401 is a fun and capable street bike that, with a few tweaks, could be nearly perfect.
Price
The Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is priced competitively in the Indian market, often positioned slightly below the KTM 390 Duke. As of the current market, the ex-showroom price for the Svartpilen 401 typically ranges around 3.5 to 3.7 lakhs, depending on the region and any local taxes. On-road prices, including registration, insurance, and other costs, can go up to around 4.2 to 4.5 lakhs. This pricing makes it an attractive option for those looking for a high-performance bike without the premium tag of the KTM 390 Duke. However, its always wise to check with local dealers for the most accurate and up-to-date pricing.

Husqvarna build quality can be inconsistent, but it’s something they’re working hard to fix. Like many owners, MCN has experienced problems with it long-term test bikes over the years, but you’ll equally find lots of happy customers enjoying miles of trouble-free fun.

The Svartpilen (black arrow, hence the stealth black paintjob) 701 is heavily based on the KTM 690 Duke’s rolling tubular steel chassis and 692.7cc single cylinder motor. With exhaust, airbox and mapping tweaks, the bike now makes 74bhp - up two ponies on the donor engine. That makes the Svartpilen 701 the most powerful production single cylinder money can buy. It’s hard not to be impressed by the Husqvarna's thumping motor - behaving more like a racy, free-revving twin than what you’d expect a ploddy single to be.
