Honda CB150R Streetster Review

Overview

Honda CB150R Streetster: My Personal Take

The visitors began talking more often about the Honda CB150R Streetster lately, and honestly – it made quite an impact on me as well. When I first read about it, I was surprised with myself saying Wait, a CB tagged as a ‘Streetster’? What’s Honda up to now?” This is not a small-capacity model which Honda introduces to the market again and again. Indeed, the CB150R Streetster tells everybody at Honda that they are fully capable of waking up the lightweight streetfighter segment with a bike that has the style and attitude and just the right kind of retro modern looks thrown in for good measure.

For most riders, the 150cc segment is that sweet spot: The supply of power is adequate for commuting around town and zipping through city traffic and it also just has the right dimensions for racking up several hundred or thousand miles of spirited back road carving in the weekend. And for Honda to drop a bike like this into the mix makes me wonder: is that what they are attempting to introduce a little bit of class into this category? The real question here is—does it meet the expectations?

So Why the Honda CB150R Streetster Hype?

Of course there is no secret on why the CB150R is a headline maker. It’s got that hard-to-beat combo: A steely retro-modern look, reliability borrowed from the ordinary Honda motorcycles, and torque that would just make you wink but not skid out on a virgin race track. Imagine this: a commuter bike with the ability to be a performance bike when you want to get aggressive on a weekend. That is why people are eager to receive more information about it.

Well, and Honda is not just being boring with this one. It means they’re going out of their usual formal box and we get something a little more classy. It’s like having a friend that you know is not trying to walk around looking like a supermodel or anything but hey look, they look like one. That’s what I felt when I was riding the CB150R Streetster It has attitude and it carries it well but it’s not trying to shout about it.

Design and Styling: Retro Meets Modern

The first thing I noticed when I looked at CB150R Streetster involved styling of the bike. This is not your average, low power, naked road warrior commonly associated with Japanese manufacturers. Honda has now fully embraced the retro-modern design language, and it sure looks like it. There is a round LED headlamp with a vintage retro look while the tank is sharply edged with super minimal body work giving the bike an almost modern race inspired look, almost like a café- racer look.

The bronzed mounted upside down forks, the fat muscular fuel tank and compact over-all built, makes to look like a bike with some sort of punch. That blatant streamlining really came through and I like how Honda did it and incorporated the silhouette with today’s styling. In its essence it appears as if Honda designers took a standard big-bike design and scaled it down with this machine. It would sit outside my home; I’d lock it, and the next thing I find myself looking at the beauty of the bicycle. It has drama but it isn’t flamboyant. And that’s something a lot of small-capacity bikes miss.

Engine and Performance: What’s Under the Hood?

Alright, let’s discuss what’s really powering this little street engine. The Honda CB150R Streetster is equipped with 149 cc of displacement and can go to either a single-cylinder with liquid cooling. At first, one may be inclined to think *‘well not much power here’* and yes if you have been used to the humongous motorbikes then it will not sound inspiring. This engine however has been tuned by Honda in such a manner that it feels accessible and fun without being docile.

It delivers about 16 horsepower – not exactly startling by today’s standards, yet couple it with this light frame, and you have yourself a motorcycle that will make urban commutes a lot more entertaining. I recall catching a ride on a similar configuration in another issue of Honda, and what impressed me most was the seamless, velvety feel. So it isn’t likely to make your neck snap, but it has the constant and reliable force that you are ready to rely on. Turn the throttle and its ready to go, best used for nipping through traffic or driving on highways.

Handling and Ride Quality: Lightweight and Nimble

This is where Honda normally excels at and I do not have any cause to believe the CB150R Streetster is any different. It’s very light which makes it very fun to ride, it comes with USD forks in the front and a mono shock in the rear. You can only picture yourself overtaking other vehicles through city traffic or just charging through some sharp/rearward corners – as if the bike was actually provoking it!

Oh, and because BM’s light – it comes in at about 125 kgs – it’s going to feel wicked responsive. I would state that it’s going to give you that feeling of control and confidence that you need to push a little harder in the next turn. Well for those riders who seek fun, lightweight and simple to maneuver bike and which intuitively responds to your every command, then the CB150R is made for you!

Features and Technology: What’s Inside?

Features? They did not sacrifice these as well: You get full LED lighting, a clear digital screen instead of the analog dials, and ABS at both ends. That is quite good for a 150cc bike nonetheless. Indeed, Honda must have been thinking, *“Hey, it’s still a motorbike so we should be able to fit in large-bike characteristics.”*

The riding position is more or less forward upright, lean a little forward than normal position which I found effective for city riding without putting undue pressure on back muscles. The handlebars are broad, the kind that just provides that good feeling of control and the footrests arerear-set in a racing position. I would build up a sort of fixation with this and can easily spend hours on this. It is quite comfortable though not in the relaxed sort of way like most lazy boy chairs.

For Which Counsumer is the Honda CB150R Streetster Designed?

Would I recommend it? Absolutely. For anyone interested in purchasing a new motor bike that is not only reliable, stylish and very easy to ride then the CB150R should not be overlooked. But it’s not just for beginners. Too often, a small, second bike for someone with many miles on their skills is ponderous, fiddly, and needs constant attention This little Honda is an exception.

Concisely, it’s like the shot of espresso— small yet strong and contains enough strength to make your heart race. What it is not, is a track weapon, track focused or a touring bike; it is a good honest street bike that one can use every day.

What to Keep in Mind

What is more, as you would expect it from any bike, the CB150R Streetster just has its own features and peculiarities. And even though it has enough pep for city commuting and the occasional Sunday afternoon romp, it won’t be able to hang with the 200cc through 250cc scooters if you want to push it. Therefore, for those who have ever looked for something that will make their pulses race a little bit, this maybe lack some of it.

And then there’s the pricing. If Honda, for instance, sets it in the market just slightly below the 200cc segment, then it will have a few complications of trying to name a convincing competitor to the more powerful bikes. Thus, they will likely have to hit just the right note when it comes to pricing to ensure it is convincing enough to warrant the money.

Final Thoughts

With the latest introduction in the Honda family, the CB150R Streetster has attracted unusual attention among gamers online, and we question the validity of that attention. So, what’s my take? The Honda CB150R Streetster, as far as performance and styling are concerned is much more than the standard integration of parts. It has looks, it has heritage, it has the right amount of oomph to more than suffice for now. It’s not out to be the fastest bike, or the most powerful – it simply aims to be a bike that you’d want to ride around on every day.

But what do you think? Do you think that one can go for the CB150R Streetster or do you think Honda has gone too conservative on this motorcycle? Please tell me your opinion on this—I really would like to read your comments!
