04 Oct, 2022 07:59 AM

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

The BS6-compliant model of the Hero XPulse 200 is available in India with an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 1.27 lakhs. The updated motorcycle features almost identical features when compared to its BS4 version though there are some minimal changes that are worth appreciating. The updated model of the Hero XPulse 200 now gets an additional catalytic converter that has been fitted neatly by rerouting the exhaust unit. In addition to this, the motorcycle now features a larger bash plate while the air-cooler equipped on the BS4 variant of the motorcycle has been replaced with an oil-cooler to offer better heat management.

Hero XPulse 200 Design & Style

The 2023 Hero XPulse 200 looks muscular and it gets an all-LED headlight and a decently tall visor. It gets an engine bash plate, a high mounted mudguard and side exhaust for better water-wading capability. The Xpulse 200 also gets a front beak, sump guard, and knuckle guards which enhances its off-road capability. The brand has repositioned the header pipe on the updated motorcycle from its actual position near the engine as seen in the BS4 variant of the motorcycle. Now, the pipe goes down below the engine and comes back to meet up with the muffler whose position has not been altered in the BS6 variant.

Hero XPulse 200 Engine & Gearbox

2023 Hero XPulse 200 is powered by a 199.6cc oil-cooled, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine which is now BS6-compliant. It churns out 17.8 HP of maximum power at 8500 rpm along with a peak torque of 16.4 Nm at 6500 rpm. Comparing it with the BS4 variant of the motorcycle, the power and torque output of this adventure motorcycle are reduced by 0.6HP and 0.7Nm respectively. The engine of the bike comes paired with a 5-speed constant mesh gearbox. It gets a multi-plate wet clutch. The addition of a BS6 compliant engine has resulted in an increase in the kerb weight of the motorcycle by 3kgs. It gets an additional catalytic converter that has been fitted neatly by rerouting the exhaust unit.

Hero XPulse 200 Instrument Console

The 2023 Hero XPulse 200 gets a fully-digital instrument console. It gets smartphone connectivity which will connect your smartphone to your bike via Bluetooth. The instrument cluster of this adventure motorcycle is divided into two parts. Its left side is comparatively bigger in size and displays a speedometer, a tachometer, an odometer, fuel gauge, a trip metre, and a gear shift indicator. While the right side displays a clock, date, distance to empty, mileage, Bluetooth connectivity icon. It also shows the time taken to reach the destination. The console area also features LED indicators that show neutral light, ABS indication, battery indication, and side stand indication.

Hero XPulse 200 Dimensions, Mileage & Top Speed

The BS6-compliant Hero XPulse 200 measures 2222mm in length, 850mm in width, and 1258mm in height. It has a seat height of 823mm alongside a wheelbase of 1410mm. It has a ground clearance of 220mm which is quite good considering it is an adventure motorcycle. It has a fuel tank capacity of 13 litres. The addition of BS6-compliant features in the motorcycle has increased its kerb weight by a total of 3kgs when compared to the BS4 version. The New Hero XPulse 200 now weighs 157kg when compared to the 154kg kerb weight of its BS4 counterpart.

Hero XPulse 200 Brakes & Suspension

The 2023 Hero XPulse 200 rides on a diamond type frame. The suspension duties of the motorcycle are handled by telescopic forks at the front and a 10-step adjustable monoshock unit at the rear. The braking performance of the bike depends on the 276mm single petal disc at the front with a 220mm single petal disc at its rear. It is mated to single-channel ABS as standard. The 2023 model of the bike comes with dual-purpose tyres that offer superb grip while in the street and while off-roading. The adventure motorcycle comes with a front 21-inch wheel while its rear tyre is of 18-inch that will help riders conquer any terrain.

Colours & Graphics

The 2023 BS6-compliant Hero XPulse 200 is available in 5 colour options: White, Matte Green, Matte Grey, Sports Red, and Panther Black. It gets a regular layout for the saddle. It gets knuckle guards which are of quite good quality. The front of the bike looks muscular with an all-LED headlight and a decently tall visor. The Xpulse 200 also gets a front beak, sump guard, and knuckle guards which enhances its off-road capability.

Verdict and Competitors of Hero XPulse 200

The new model of HeroXPulse 200 features almost identical features when compared to its BS4 version though there are some minimal changes. It gets an additional catalytic converter that has been fitted neatly by rerouting the exhaust unit. The motorcycle now features a larger bash plate while the air-cooler equipped on the BS4 variant of the motorcycle has been replaced with an oil-cooler to offer better heat management. If you are looking for an affordable adventure motorcycle, then Hero XPulse 200 is the best option for you. It competes in the Indian market with the likes of the Honda CB200X.

Discussions and Answers Hero XPulse 200

Is the Hero XPulse 200T worth buying?
19 September 2023 07:23

The Hero XPulse 200T was never really a hot seller. The company has taken its own sweet time to provide the bike with the BS6 updates, which have arrived at a pretty steep premium. If you are looking for a city bike in the 200cc space with no intention of heading to the nearby twisties or trails over the weekend, the XPulse 200T makes sense. The XPulse 200T has got the mandatory emission updates. Hence, you find a fuel-injection system fueling the 199.6cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine. The oil cooler is a welcome addition but not as much to justify the extra price.

Which bike is smoother between Hero Xpulse200 & Xpulse 200T?
19 September 2023 07:22

The Hero Xpulse 200 is the off-road capable version of the two. To cement its mud-plugging credentials, the XPulse 200 gets a raised beak, knuckle guards, and a small windscreen. Whereas, the XPulse 200T is a touring motorcycle and it features a wide handlebar, comfortable ribbed seat, and conventional exhaust system. Hopefully, the XPulse 200T will be more peppy and smooth now, much like how the XPulse 200 BS6 turned out. For a better understanding of compatibility and riding comfort, we would suggest you take a test ride.

What are the engine specifications of the Hero XPulse 200T 4V?
19 September 2023 07:21

Powering the current Hero XPulse 200T is a 199.6cc single-cylinder fuel-injected air-cooled engine with an oil cooler, generating 19.1PS at 8500rpm and 17.35Nm at 6500rpm. But the 4-valve update should bump the power figures back up just like it did on the Xpulse 200 4V adventure bike. This motor works alongside a 5-speed transmission linked to a chain drive. The suspension includes a 37mm telescopic fork and a rear 7-step adjustable mono-shock. The XPulse 200T employs a 276mm front disc, a 220mm rear disc, and single-channel ABS. It comes with 17-inch alloy wheels (at both ends) wrapped in MRF street tyres. The XPulse 200T has a curb weight of 154kg and is equipped with a 13-liter fuel tank. At 800mm, the seat is 24mm lower than the XPulse 200’s unit.

Can we use Hero Xpulse 200 4V as a dirt bike?
18 September 2023 08:45

Hero Xpulse 200 4V is an Adventure tourer bike available in the Indian automobile market. Dirt bikes are specially made for their performance in dirt racing. The look, weight, power, technical work, etc are totally different from the Hero Xpulse 200 4V. Therefore, it is a bad idea to use Hero Xpulse 200 4V as a dirt bike.

Is XPulse 200 a family bike?
31 August 2023 12:17

If you want a second bike for adventure touring and if you have some interest in off-roading then you may go for Hero Moto Corp XPulse 200, as it is light and easy to handle, extremely capable at off-roading, a great city slicker, most affordable adventure motorcycle in India.

Quite agile and throttle-happy

As a proud owner of the BS6 2020 Xpulse 200, I can confidently say that it has been a great experience so far. The good part has only gotten better with time and I have no complaints apart from a faulty fuel pump issue which got resolved under the warranty. The only downside I faced is that, being a rider on the heavier side (weighing 100+kg), it is difficult to carry a pillion. Riding into a pothole or a speed breaker causes the lower portion of the bike to grind the asphalt or the paved surface of the trail. But apart from that, for trail riding and touring solo, the Xpulse 200 is quite agile and throttle-happy. I love this bike and I am planning to upgrade to the Xpulse 300/400 if the company gives the green light for commercial production. Cheers!

Great value for money

I’m really happy with my XPulse 200. I’ve used it on highways, cities, and off-roads, and it’s been great in all scenarios. The mileage is great, the comfort is great, and it’s definitely a mighty bike. I’ve recommended it to many of my friends, and around 7 or 8 of them have ended up buying the bike too.

The XPulse is the best vehicle for on-roading and off-roading. Its road grip is awesome and it’s budget-friendly. The only issue I’ve had so far is that it needs some fine tuning with the chain settings and clutch settings. But overall, it’s a great value for money.

Great performance on off-road trails

Xpulse 200 is a great ADV bike and offers great performance on off-road trails. The power output is strong enough for highway use and is quite capable. The bike is quite comfortable and the ground clearance is quite good. The mileage is good at 40 km/l and the maintenance costs can be a bit high but overall it's a great bike. The only issue that I have encountered is the chain sprocket problem, rear suspension leaking and engine overheating issues. But overall, the Xpulse 200 is a great bike and I would highly recommend it.

Really satisfied with the overall performance

I have been using the Hero XPulse 200 4v for more than 8 months now, and have been really satisfied with the overall performance. Initially I did face some engine heat issues, but after the third service, the problem was taken care of. I also decided to modify my seat, and I must say, it has made my riding experience much more comfortable.

In terms of mileage, the Hero XPulse 200 4v is one of the best in its price range. It has been consistently delivering a good mileage on a regular basis, which has been a major plus point for me.

Great average in the 200cc

The Hero XPulse 200 has great average in the 200cc segment and its headlight power has been increased. However, it still falls short of being a completely off-road capable machine. The built quality of the bike is good and the mileage is also commendable. All in all, the Hero XPulse 200 is a great bike for long rides and adventures, especially for those on a budget.

The headlight issue has been an issue for a while and I'm disappointed that the company hasn't taken steps to improve the visibility. The engine could also have been refined more to make it more reliable. Other than these issues, I have no other complaints and I'm very happy with my purchase.

The Main Frame was not designed to house the Exhaust Pipe and the fact that it had to be cut to fit it into the Cylinder is a major red flag. This is a clear indication of poor design and it makes me question the overall quality of the product. This is a definite deal breaker for me.

I have been using the Xpulse 200 for the past two months and I am amazed by how great its suspension is for broken roads and unpaved paths. It navigates these roads with ease and does not cause any discomfort to the rider. The average mileage it gives is around 35 kmpl and it is suitable for both city and highway rides. It is also able to handle floods and muddy roads with ease. The only downside is that it lacks power on the highway and can only do 200 km in 4 hours when on an average state highway with stops in between.

I am really happy with the performance of my bike and the initial punch is great. The only thing that I find a bit off is the cruising speed of 100+ kmph. I know it's not a cruiser bike, but it would be great to be able to cruise at 90 kmph on the highway with the 5th gear at 4500 rpm. That's the sweet spot for me.

Hero is known for its powerful and reliable bikes. With the advent of adventure biking, the company should now look towards introducing motorcycles with 400-500 cc engines in order to cater to the needs of adventure-seekers. With its impeccable reputation, Hero has the potential to make a big impact in the adventure biking segment. The company should take this opportunity to increase its market share and create a legacy that will be remembered for generations. As a loyal Hero owner, I urge the engineers of the company to take this suggestion seriously.

Hero has always been a leader in the two wheeler market, but the recent years have been especially difficult for them. However, they’re back with a vengeance with the 200cc bikes; the Xtreme and the XPulse. It would be great to see them continue the momentum and launch 300cc and 400cc bikes soon. This could be the start of a new era for the company, and an exciting one for the two wheeler industry.
