The BMW R 18 First Edition has been discontinued as of the 2022 model year. This decision was part of several model revision measures announced by BMW Motorrad. The R 18 will continue to be available in other variants, including new color options and accessory packages. The design of the BMW R 18 First Edition is heavily inspired by the 1936 R5, with a double-loop steel frame, teardrop fuel tank, and exposed final drive shaft. There have been some reports of manufacturing issues with the BMW R 18, including cases of catastrophic engine failure and incorrectly torqued fork head screws. However, these issues seem to be rare, and BMW has been addressing them through their service channels.
