Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z Review

Overview

Bajaj Auto’s latest offering, the 2025 Pulsar NS400Z, marks a bold step forward for the brand in the premium street-naked motorcycle category. With cutting-edge technology, improved performance, and an array of new features, this model is designed to stand out among its competitors in the 400cc segment.

Striking Design and Visual Appeal

The Pulsar NS400Z is instantly recognizable with its aggressive styling, sharp lines, and muscular stance. The distinctive thunder-shaped LED daytime running lights and a modern LED projector headlamp give it a contemporary look, while the sculpted bodywork and tank extensions enhance its sporty character. Buyers can choose from four attractive color options: Ebony Black, Glossy Racing Red, Metallic Pearl White, and Pewter Grey.

Upgraded Engine and Performance

At the heart of the NS400Z is a refined 373cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. This updated motor delivers an impressive 43 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 35 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm—an increase over the previous generation. The engine is paired with a smooth-shifting 6-speed gearbox and features a slipper clutch for effortless downshifts.

A highlight of the new model is the inclusion of a bi-directional quickshifter, known as the Sport Shift system. This allows for clutchless upshifts and downshifts, especially useful in Sport mode, making gear changes seamless and enhancing the overall riding experience.

Performance highlights:
- 0–60 km/h: 2.7 seconds
- 0–100 km/h: 6.4 seconds
- Top speed: 157 km/h
- Fuel efficiency: Approximately 28 kmpl

Enhanced Ride and Handling

The NS400Z is built on a rigid perimeter frame, ensuring stability and precise handling. The suspension setup includes an upside-down (USD) front fork and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear, providing confidence on both city streets and winding roads. The bike rides on 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with wider, high-grip Apollo Alpha H1 tires (110/70 front, 150/60 rear), offering improved traction and ride quality.

Braking performance is top-notch, with larger disc brakes at both ends and new sintered brake pads that reduce stopping distances by up to 7%. Dual-channel ABS and switchable traction control further boost safety across a variety of road conditions.

Modern Features and Technology

The NS400Z is packed with advanced features that cater to today’s tech-savvy riders:

- Full digital LCD instrument cluster: Displays speed, gear position, trip meters, fuel consumption, and more.
- Bluetooth connectivity: Pairs with the Bajaj Ride Connect app for call/SMS alerts, turn-by-turn navigation, and music control.
- Four riding modes: Road, Rain, Sport, and Off-road—each adjusts throttle response and ABS intervention for optimal performance.
- USB charging port: Keeps devices powered on the go.
- 5-step adjustable brake and clutch levers: Ensures a comfortable fit for riders of all sizes.
- Hazard lights and auto-cancelling indicators: Add convenience and safety.

Comfort and Practicality

With a seat height of 805 mm and a kerb weight of 174 kg, the NS400Z is accessible to a wide range of riders while maintaining a stable, planted feel. The split seat design offers comfort for both rider and pillion, and the 12-liter fuel tank provides ample range for long rides. A ground clearance of 165 mm ensures the bike can handle India’s varied road conditions with ease.

Advanced Safety Features

Bajaj has prioritized rider safety with a comprehensive suite of features:

- Dual-channel ABS: Standard across all variants.
- Switchable traction control: Can be deactivated in Sport and Off-road modes for experienced riders.
- Four ride modes: Allow customization of ABS and traction control settings for different surfaces and weather.

Pricing and Value for Money

The 2025 Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is priced at ₹1.92 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most affordable options in its class. For this price, riders get a powerful engine, advanced electronics, and a robust chassis—features often found on more expensive motorcycles.

Competition and Market Position

The NS400Z competes directly with the KTM 390 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 310, Triumph Speed 400, and Hero Mavrick 440. Its combination of performance, technology, and competitive pricing gives it a strong advantage in the value segment.

Final Thoughts

The 2025 Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z is a compelling choice for riders seeking a modern, high-performance street-naked motorcycle. With its upgraded engine, advanced electronics, and enhanced safety features, the NS400Z continues the Pulsar legacy while setting new benchmarks in its class. Whether for daily commuting or weekend adventures, this bike delivers an exhilarating and practical riding experience.

Discussions and Questions Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z

How reliable is the NS400Z for daily commuting?
30 January 2025 10:06
It’s been over a year since I started using my NS400Z as a daily commuter. No major issues so far. But if you ride sensibly, it's surprisingly fuel efficient and the upright riding position makes it easy to thread your way through traffic. If you just keep up with regular maintenance, you’ll be fine.
How good is the NS400Z as a customizable and modifiable platform?
30 January 2025 10:06
Now obviously the NS400Z has potential, as someone who’s built a few custom bikes myself. There's enough power to work with and the frame is good for cafe racer conversions. You’ll have to be prepared to make a lot of parts yourself as the aftermarket isn’t as developed as it is for other more popular models.
Does the Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z live up to the hype?
30 January 2025 10:06
It's a mixed bag. There’s a great engine and performance, but refinement is still something Bajaj needs to work on. The higher one goes in speed, vibrations can become an issue. Nevertheless, it is a massive leap forward for Indian motorcycles and the promise is great. In two generations it'll be a real winner.
Long distance touring, how does the NS400Z handle that?
30 January 2025 10:06
Having toured on a number of bikes, I would say that the NS400Z is a good all round bike. It isn’t as comfy as a dedicated tourer, but it’s a lot more fun on twisty roads. It is easy to do multi day trips with some soft luggage and a tank bag. That’s just something to plan for more frequent stops.
Are the NS400Z good enough to keep up with larger bikes on track days?
30 January 2025 10:06
I’ve been around a bunch of NS400Zs as a track day instructor. These are great bikes for the beginner to learn the basics of riding track. If you can’t carry corner speed, and you’re smooth on the straights, you’ll get passed, but you’ll learn a lot.

Bajaj Pulsar 125 Split Seat Drum

Honestly, the Pulsar 125 Split Seat feels like a younger sibling of the classic Pulsar. The styling is sharp, and it’s comfortable for both rider and pillion. But I wish it had a bit more torque for quicker overtakes. For daily use, though the mileage and build make it a great pick.

Bajaj Pulsar N150

The Bajaj Pulsar N150 strikes a balance between performance and practicality. Its 149.68cc engine delivers adequate power for urban commutes. The lightweight chassis enhances maneuverability, while the semi-digital console adds a modern touch. However, the lack of a rear disc brake is noticeable during hard braking.

Reasonable bike with easy commuting

TVS XL 100 is a per bike for those who have tight budget. It come under 50k price and best suitable for daily commute. I bought this bike for my gardener who’s living with us for more than 20 years. He is really happy for this gift, now he can use this for his part time. The mileage is very sufficient of 50kmpl. The built up quality is strong and durable. However the pick up is the biggest drawback for TVS XL 100. I must say, apart from pick up everything is good to go. It has very low maintenance as well.

Capable For Carrying Heavy Loads

The TVS XL 100 is a good low-budget two-wheeler that has a 99.7 cc engine. It can support a good amount of weight.
it delivers excellent mileage up to 60–70 km, and the starting price is Rs. 31,079. The metal body of the scooter ensures its durability and stability, it is best for daily rides as it is affordable for poor people as well. It can carry huge loads since it has the energy efficiency and a sturdy load carrier. Its spare parts and other equipment have low prices which makes it more affordable and easy to maintain.
