Bajaj Discover 150S
General information and overview
The Bajaj Discover 150S is a well-rounded motorcycle designed to cater to the needs of Indian commuters. It features a 145cc engine with a 4-valve head and twin spark plugs, mated to a 5-speed gearbox, providing a good balance of power and economy. The bike has a semi-double cradle frame and a long wheelbase, which contributes to its stability at high speeds. The Discover 150S comes with electric start, alloy wheels, and tubeless tires, enhancing its convenience and durability. While it may lack the visual appeal of its fairing-equipped counterpart, the 150F, the 150S compensates with its agility and lighter weight, making it a joy to ride in urban conditions. The instrumentation is all-analog but functional, and the bike is available with or without a front disc brake, offering flexibility in pricing. Overall, the Discover 150S is a solid choice for anyone seeking a reliable, powerful, and economical motorcycle.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Bajaj Discover 150S is a compelling package that ticks all the right boxes for a commuter motorcycle in India. It boasts a refined engine with a 4-valve head and twin spark plugs, producing 14.5PS of power and 12.7Nm of torque, making it peppy and tractable in both city and highway conditions. The ride and handling are well-judged, with the bike navigating potholes and bumps comfortably, although it may not be the sharpest in filtering through traffic or the most planted around bends. The Discover 150S is lighter and more agile than its fairing-equipped sibling, the 150F, making it more fun to ride in urban settings. With its economic pricing and strong performance, the Discover 150S is an excellent choice for those seeking a balance between power, comfort, and affordability.
Recent news and announcements
Bajaj Auto is set to relaunch the Discover 150S with a new, stylish design and a powerful 150cc engine, aiming to revamp its commuter bike segment. The new model will feature updated graphics and a black finish on the side step, chain guard, and grab rail. I think this refresh could attract more buyers looking for a balance between power and fuel efficiency.
The Bajaj Discover 150S has been officially launched in India, priced at Rs. 66,022 for the drum brake version and a slightly higher price for the disc brake version. The bike is powered by a 144.8cc single-cylinder engine producing 14.3bhp and 12.7Nm of torque. It comes with a 5-speed gearbox and features like a rear mono shock absorber and alloy wheels.
Bajaj has announced that the Discover 150S will be available in five color options: Black Gold, Dark Blue, Dark Bottle Green, Ebony Black, and Wine Red. This variety in colors is expected to appeal to a broader range of customers. I believe the new color schemes will make the bike more appealing to younger riders.
The Bajaj Discover 150S boasts a semi double cradle frame and features like a 240mm front disc brake and 130mm rear drum brake, enhancing its stability and braking performance. The bike also has a ground clearance of 165mm, making it suitable for Indian road conditions.
Bajaj Auto has highlighted the fuel efficiency of the Discover 150S, claiming it can achieve a mileage of 57 kmpl. This is a significant selling point for commuters looking to save on fuel costs. I think the fuel efficiency will be a major draw for budget-conscious buyers.
Pricing details and changes
The Bajaj Discover 150S is priced very competitively in the Indian market. The base variant without the front disc brake is available for around Rs 52,000 ex-showroom, while the variant with the disc brake retails for approximately Rs 55,000 ex-showroom. On-road prices, including taxes and other costs, would typically range from Rs 62,000 to Rs 65,000, depending on the state and local taxes. This pricing strategy positions the Discover 150S closer to 125cc motorcycles rather than other 150cc bikes, making it an attractive option for buyers looking for a powerful yet affordable motorcycle.
Fuel efficiency information
The Bajaj Discover 150S offers impressive fuel efficiency, which is a crucial factor for Indian buyers. Bajaj claims a real-world mileage of around 55-60 kmpl, and in some tests, it has even achieved over 70 kmpl on the highway. This makes the Discover 150S a frugal choice, helping to keep running costs low and making it an excellent option for daily commuting.
