Unmatched Combination of Style & Technology
Wednesday, November 26, 2008
Suzuki’s Intruder M1800R (also known as the Boulevard in some markets) is one of the most sought after cruisers worldwide. It is very distinctively styled. It’s one flowing, curvaceous form from the chrome-top headlight cowl to the flat and wide 19-litre fuel tank. The huge 1783cc, liquid-cooled 54 degree V-twin chromed engine is mounted underneath the massive, wide tank. It is a rare blend of elegant styling, raw power and addictive torque
The mill fits perfectly under the tank with no overhangs to hammer the insides of the rider’s calves. The exhaust pipes coming out of the engine are also completely chromed and further extend towards the rear, culminating as a pair of slashed mufflers. The Intruder produces 160Nm of torque at 3250rpm and that gives instant throttle response throughout the rev range. The low-maintenance shaft-drive system emphasises that this motorcycle is designed for distance. The 19-litre fuel tank confirms that impression. So do the handlebar-mounted digital tachometer and LED warning lights.
The fuel tank merges flawlessly with a low and comfortable saddle. The seat further dips in with relation to the tank, giving maximum comfort for long rides. The speedometer is mounted on the tank just above the fuel lid, both of which find place in a somewhat angularly oval chrome housing that tapers towards the rider. Where you usually find the speedo and other cocks on usual bikes, you have the digital tacho. Some GSX-R sports bike technology has been carried over to this new breed of Suzuki.
By its very nature, this system increases the unsprung weight, so the ride, especially over imperfections in the road’s surface, can feel a little harsh, as can the gear changes. This bike is good enough to compete with all-comers, handles better than most and looks delightful. Intruder M1800R is an unmatched combination of the latest high-performance technology and a unique, exciting style. It delivers the classic look of a cruiser, without sacrificing the power and torque that motorcyclists crave. And it´s built for effortless cruising, across town or across the country.
