Overview

The search for a perfect off road partner ends when it comes to the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin. The big heart machine is not just good by numbers, but also makes it good in terms of style. The much awaited power machine by Honda has finally arrived and the feature it brings along makes it the best known for the job. As expected, it excels in its field, with 100 on 100 marks for usability and power figures. Honda recently launched the Africa Twin in India for Rs 12.90 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

Design & Style

A pure off road machine by design, the CRF1000L Africa Twin looks very aggressive and high in spirits from its first look. It brings an all-terrain winner in a gentle pair of clothes, good enough to make it a wise choice for roads also. When not in the jungle, the bike brings it some good looks for its semi faired design and golden front telescopic forks, which are clearly seen, extended for the all-terrain purposes.

Engine & Gearbox

The engine powering the bike is a 999.11cc, 4-stroke, 8-valve twin parallel cylinder engine producing 87.16 BHP @ 7500 rpm and 91.9 NM @ 6000 rpm. The engine power is enough to make the bike easy on any surface, with more thanks to the 6 speed manual gearbox on the basic variant. Africa Twin also gets 2-Channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). This definitely makes the Africa Twin an excellent choice for explorers and adventure lovers. The company claimed top speed of the bike is 190 kmph and Honda has not announced anything related to the mileage of the bike.

Brakes & Suspension

The braking duties on the motorcycle is undertaken by twin 310 mm floating disc with radial calipers hub and 4 pistons for the front whereas the rear gets a floating disc of 256 mm with 2-piston calipers.

The DCT version also includes parking brake system with it. The suspension on the CRF1000L is the telescopic type with longer travel for easy off road driving whereas the rear gets a mono-cross suspension. The tyre size for the front is 90/90-21 whereas it stays 150/70-18 for the rear. The tube tyres come with spoke wheels and the bike comes with a seat height of 820-840 mm, which makes it a height adjustable seat. The ground clearance comes at 250 mm, making it clean on all terrains.

Shades

The CRF1000L Africa Twin comes in two shades, Dakar Rally and Digital Metallic Silver. The Tricolor is also expected in near future from Honda on their off road bike.

Variants & Price

Honda Africa Twin is available in only one variant in India which is priced at Rs 12.90 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Outside India the bikes comes in three variants. They are Standard, ABS and DCT variant, with the DCT having switchable ABS for the rear wheel.
