31 January 2025 07:32
Customizing my Bada Dost i4 CBC has been a wonderful experience for my mobile dog grooming business. Added a water tank, a power inverter and a grooming station. The additions seemed to have been handled well by the vehicle's electrical system.

The Bada Dost i4 CBC handles in the monsoon is something I love. Even in heavy rain the cabin stays dry and the defrosting system does a great job in keeping the windshield clear. It makes a lot of difference to comfort and safety on long drives.

I am a mechanic and as such I can tell you that the Bada Dost i3 CBC is well engineered. Maintenance is a breeze since the parts are easily accessible. That alone is reason enough to look at it for businesses trying to minimize downtime.
What is the maintenance and service experience of the Bada Dost i4 LX against other commercial vehicles?
31 January 2025 07:19
To be honest, I am a little frustrated with the experience of maintenance. The vehicle itself is great, but that’s very hard to find a good service center in the smaller towns. Therefore, Ashok Leyland needs to expand its network.
Is the Ashok Leyland Bada Dost i4 LX worth all the hype it has gained among small business owners?
31 January 2025 07:19
I have been in transport business for over 20 years, and I can say the Bada Dost i4 LX is a good investment. While pricier upfront, the low maintenance costs and good resale value make up for it in the long run.
Can the Bada Dost i4 LX manage the notorious Indian roads and traffic?
31 January 2025 07:19
It handles Indian roads rather surprisingly well for a mini truck. It steers light enough to be useful in town but fuses nicely at highway speeds. The build quality just leaves a bit to be desired - some rattles have developed this time after a while.

Absolutely worth it. The simple fact that I have been able to take on bigger jobs, and make more money as a result, is thanks to the additional payload alone.
The big question is if the Bada Dost i4 LS really is a ‘bada’ (big) upgrade from its predecessor.
31 January 2025 07:13
People are hyping it too much. It’s better, sure, but not revolutionary. One thing will not change and that is, even at its best it is still just a small commercial vehicle.
What is the long term reliability and maintenance cost of Bada Dost i3 LS?

It has been a pleasant surprise on the cost of ownership long term. Service intervals are longer than some competitors and parts are reasonably priced. Both my old Tata and my wallet agree, this has been easier on my wallet.

It is a great starting point for customization and the base chassis is very good. That’s the reason I’ve seen food trucks, mobile workshops built on the Bada Dost platform. The only thing is that you have to find the right body builder.
What can other automakers learn from the Ashok Leyland Stile’s experience in India?
31 January 2025 06:48
The failure of the Stile proves that you can’t take a cut on features in the Indian market. Passengers will expect some comfort levels even if you are targeting the commercial segment. There has to be a right balance between cost and features that automakers strike.
If the Ashok Leyland Stile was marketed differently, could it have succeeded?
31 January 2025 06:48
Definitely! They should have used their reputation of commercial vehicles and market it exclusively to fleet operators and businesses. Appealing to both the personal and commercial segments probably confused consumers.

It shows how powerful after sales service and dealer network can be in this country. Perhaps, Ashok Leyland’s lack of experience in the passenger vehicle segment could have meant that they had a weaker support system compared to established players.
The Ashok Leyland Stile CNG was a missed opportunity in the Indian market?

Before anything else, they need to get their basics right – a better build quality, a reworked engine, and a reduction in NVH levels. Then combine with modern tech such as a huge touchscreen and connected car features.

31 January 2025 06:41
However, the main question is if it’s food safe. To run a micro farmer on the spot you'd need to make sure you do it properly in terms of insulation and temperature control and this might be tricky if you are not running the vehicle with the purpose already in mind.
