What is the maintenance and service experience of the Bada Dost i4 LX against other commercial vehicles?

Maintenance costs and vehicle downtime affect profitability for commercial vehicle operators. As a rather new player in the market, long term reliability and ease of maintenance of Ashok Leyland Bada Dost i4 LX is something to question. Ashok Leyland needs to be able to demonstrate to potential buyers how often services are required and the availability and cost of spare parts, as well as the quality of after sales support. The other thing that is of interest is how user friendly the vehicle is for basic maintenance tasks that can be performed by the owner or driver. Moreover, comparisons to the maintenance experiences of other popular commercial vehicles in this segment may be helpful. While business owners depend on their vehicles and as such, they have to take into account many factors such as the extent of the service network, how efficient the service centers are, as well as how transparent the maintenance process is.

I’ve had my Bada Dost i4 LX for over a year now and I am quite pleasantly surprised by the maintenance experience. The overall costs have been lower than my previous Tata Ace and service intervals are longer.

To be honest, I am a little frustrated with the experience of maintenance. The vehicle itself is great, but that’s very hard to find a good service center in the smaller towns. Therefore, Ashok Leyland needs to expand its network.

Compared to my old Mahindra, the Bada Dost i4 LX feels more robust. I’ve broken down fewer times unexpectedly and when it is necessary to service, it has been quicker and more transparent.

The maintenance costs are reasonable, but the genuine parts are very costly. I sometimes use aftermarket parts for non critical components so as to keep cost down.

The digital service booking and tracking system impresses me. Compared to my experiences with other commercial vehicle, it is much more convenient. The service reminders are also helpful in keeping on top of maintenance.

I like the long service intervals as I do long haul trips. But I had trouble with part availability in remote areas. You must always keep some of the essential spares handy!

The free services at first were great, but the quality of them starts to drop off after that. Sometimes it feels like they are trying to upsell us services that is not essential. Never relax and always follow the manual’s advice.

Surprisingly, the Bada Dost i4 LX has surprisingly good parts availability for a new model. Initially, I was worried about this, however I have not found substantial delay in getting the needed replacement parts.

Bada Dost’s resale market is still developing. At first, it was a bit easier selling, but I managed to get a decent price for the brand, as it wasn’t as well known. You will have to pour in some effort to find a suitable buyer.

The Bada Dost i4 LX is a good value in my opinion, and it does hold its value quite well if you have kept it in good condition. The trick is to keep all the service records, and to repair in genuine parts.

After a year, I tried to trade in my Bada Dost and I was not satisfied with the offers. It seems that the market still prefers Mahindra and Tata for used vehicles. It might improve as the brand becomes more established.

Well maintained Bada Dost i4 LX is a popular car these days as I am a used vehicle dealer. The higher end variants are holding their value a bit better than anticipated with more features.

Barun on 30 January 2025 13:37
The resale value is acceptable, but not too terrible. I believe the reason the used value of older Ashok Leyland models is getting hit by frequent model updates. Food for thought if you want to sell within 2 or 3 years.

When I bought my Bada Dost, I was worried about resale but it has turned out to be a non issue. The model has a good reputation for reliability and the demand for efficient mini trucks is high.

In my area, the Bada Dost i4 LX is holding its value more than some of the competition. It is attractive in the used market due to the good fuel efficiency and low maintenance costs.

Vikas on 30 January 2025 09:20
The value of my Bada Dost was maintained by adding some aftermarket upgrades such as a better audio system and alloy wheels. These extras seem to be appreciated by the buyers.

Rana on 30 January 2025 20:03
It has a decent resale value, but it depends on the area. The Bada Dost tends to hold its value better in the areas where Ashok Leyland has a strong presence and good service network.
