Will the cannibalization of the Bajaj Dominar 400 sales happen by Bajaj Pulsar RS400?
31 January 2025 10:34
I believe that price is the bottom line. If they price the RS400 much higher than the Dominar, it could provide enough distance to avoid direct competition. However, if they are close enough in price, it may cause a problem.
Will the cannibalization of the Bajaj Dominar 400 sales happen by Bajaj Pulsar RS400?
31 January 2025 10:34
No way. In terms of build quality and refinement, the RC 390 is on a different league. KTM's level is not yet where Bajaj is improving.
Will the cannibalization of the Bajaj Dominar 400 sales happen by Bajaj Pulsar RS400?

It doesn’t need to be better than the RC 390 to succeed. The RS400 could be a winner for a lot of riders who want a sporty bike but cannot justify the KTM’s price tag, if the RS400 can provide 80% of the performance at 70% of the price.
Will the cannibalization of the Bajaj Dominar 400 sales happen by Bajaj Pulsar RS400?

The actual question is, would Bajaj be allowed to cut into KTM’s market share. This partnership may restrict how close the RS400 can come to the RC 390’s performance.
Will the cannibalization of the Bajaj Dominar 400 sales happen by Bajaj Pulsar RS400?
31 January 2025 10:34
I think the RS400 could in fact be a better every day riding bike. Bajaj might strike a better balance between performance and comfort than KTMs are known to be.
Will the cannibalization of the Bajaj Dominar 400 sales happen by Bajaj Pulsar RS400?

There will be a big hurdle to overcome when it comes to brand perception. If the RS400 is as good as the RC 390, then there will always be people who will treat it as just a Pulsar and not a premium bike.
Will the cannibalization of the Bajaj Dominar 400 sales happen by Bajaj Pulsar RS400?

It's not just about performance. The RC 390 has a good racing pedigree and there is aftermarket support. If Bajaj really wants to compete, they will need to build an ecosystem around the RS400.
Will Bajaj's Dominar Scrambler eat into sales of other Bajaj models like the Pulsar NS200?
29 January 2025 09:02
I don't think it'll cannibalize a lot. The Pulsar NS200 is for a different crowd than the Dominar Scrambler. The Pulsar is a sporty commuter, it's for people who want a more versatile, touring oriented bike.
Will Bajaj's Dominar Scrambler eat into sales of other Bajaj models like the Pulsar NS200?
29 January 2025 09:02
I think it will actually help Bajaj overall, there might be some overlap but that's not a bad thing. Instead of switching to other manufacturers for more adventure focused bikes, the Scrambler provides an upgrade path for NS200 owners within the brand.
Will Bajaj's Dominar Scrambler eat into sales of other Bajaj models like the Pulsar NS200?
29 January 2025 09:02
That could definitely eat into Pulsar sales a bit. For not that much more money, the Scrambler gives you a lot more bike. But if I was to pick between the two, I’d stretch for the Dominar every time.
Will Bajaj's Dominar Scrambler eat into sales of other Bajaj models like the Pulsar NS200?

Bajaj probably knew what they were doing on this one. The Scrambler will be a slightly older, more experienced rider than the Pulsar NS200. They might even end up bringing in customers who would never have thought to buy a Bajaj.
Will Bajaj's Dominar Scrambler eat into sales of other Bajaj models like the Pulsar NS200?
29 January 2025 09:02
Bajaj, I think, is doing smart positioning. With Scrambler, they fill a gap in their lineup and have a competitor in the growing adventure touring segment. The Pulsar is different enough from the Pulsar that I don't see the cannibalization being too bad.
Will Bajaj's Dominar Scrambler eat into sales of other Bajaj models like the Pulsar NS200?
29 January 2025 09:02
I own a Pulsar and a Dominar and they serve very different purposes. For daily commuting and some weekend fun the Pulsar is the one, and for longer trips and exploring the Dominar Scrambler. I don't think people would cross shop them.
Will Bajaj's Dominar Scrambler eat into sales of other Bajaj models like the Pulsar NS200?

The real test though will be how Bajaj is able to market the Scrambler. If done right, it could actually increase the interest in their whole lineup and push more people into Bajaj showrooms. Halo product that could help brand as a whole.
Does the Dominar Scrambler’s extended ground clearance and longer suspension travel make it better suited to Indian road conditions?
29 January 2025 09:02
Absolutely! It is a godsend on potholed city roads, with the extra ground clearance. Switching over to the Scrambler version, I've bottomed out way less on speed bumps and rough patches.

Now that's an improvement, but it's not night and day. The Indian roads were handled pretty well by the standard Dominar. The Scrambler is better, but if you’re not a heavy user, you may not notice a big difference in daily use.

Comfort is a big difference made by the longer suspension travel, especially on longer rides. The standard model soaks up bumps and ruts much better than the standard model. It’s a big upgrade for touring on different Indian roads.
Does the Dominar Scrambler’s extended ground clearance and longer suspension travel make it better suited to Indian road conditions?
29 January 2025 09:02
On highways the higher center of gravity makes me find the Scrambler less stable. It’s great on rough roads, but if you cover a lot of highway miles, the standard Dominar is the better bet.

The Scrambler's mods are a game changer for someone who rides in both urban and rural areas. It has much more confidence on everything from city streets to village tracks. It’s just the perfect all rounder for Indian conditions.

The wider handlebars make an even bigger difference in maneuverability, but the increased ground clearance is nice. Weaving through traffic and tight spots is so much easier.
