Is Bajaj Dominar 200 all the hype it is worth?

Lately the Dominar 200 has been creating quite a buzz in the Indian motorcycle community. It’s a rebranded Pulsar with fancy marketing say some riders while others are praising its value proposition and touring capabilities. People are divided on whether it lives up to Bajaj's claim that it is a 'sports tourer' and whether it can give established models in the segment a run for their money. Other complaints are that the bike is too heavy for city riding. Also, there are conflicting views of its build quality and long term reliability than competitors in the market. With all these conflicting views, it is hard to tell fact from hype. We will let the actual owners and enthusiasts speak, is the Dominar 200 really a game changer or just clever marketing?

I’ve had my Dominar 200 for about 6 months now and it’s been a mixed bag. The engine is powerful enough for highway cruising and is smooth, but in the city you can feel its sluggishness. In tight spaces, the weight is definitely noticeable.

I test rode both the Dominar 200 and the Pulsar NS200 and I'd say the Dominar is worth the extra cash. It’s a more comfortable riding position for long rides and a more premium overall feel. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good option for its price.

There's a bit of hype, I think. Yes, the bike is a decent one, but it is not the revolution that Bajaj makes it out to be. At high speeds, it's annoyingly noisy and not very fuel efficient. If you don’t like the feel of the bike, you might be better off with a Yamaha FZ25 or even a Royal Enfield Classic 350.

In fact, the Dominar 200 is pretty good for touring. I've also done a few 500+ km trips, and it does well on highways. It's comfortable, and it has decent tank range. But it’s not the most ideal for everyday commuting, as it is heavy.

I was skeptical at first, but rode my friend’s Dominar 200 for one week and I am impressed. Not perfect, but for the price you get a lot of bike. Surprisingly good build quality, and it feels a lot more stable at high speeds than other bikes in its class.
