Is Bajaj Dominar 400 just a marketing gimmick or really a power cruiser?
The Dominar 400 is also marketed as a power cruiser that combines the sporty drive of a sports bike with the comfort of a cruiser. Riders are divided on whether it actually fulfills that promise, though. There are those who say it doesn’t have the relaxed ergonomics and low end torque of a traditional cruiser and others who applaud its versatility for city riding and highway touring. There's also the bike's styling, which does divide opinion – a unique fusion or identity crisis? Long distance comfort is reported to be mixed by owners and there are questions as to whether its performance makes the grade against dedicated sports bikes in its price range. Is the Dominar 400 able to establish its own niche, or is it trying to be more things than it really should be?

We seem to put too much stock in labels. The Dominar is in a category of its own, it is a comfortable and powerful bike that works just as well on the city as it does on the touring run. Does it matter if it neatly falls into a particular category?

It's just a gimmick. Unlike real cruisers, forward set footpegs and a laid back riding position. The Dominar is nothing but a naked bike with a few cruiser inspired styling cues. Bajaj should have taken one side or the other.

I'm a Dominar owner, and it's a bit of both. It’s not a traditional cruiser but it does give you a more relaxed ride than most sport bikes. Even if that wasn't 100% accurate, it's a label that helps it stand out in a crowded market.

I think that it was a clever marketing move by Bajaj. What they've done is make a bike that appeals to people who want the idea of a cruiser but don't want to give up any performance. That's not a pure anything, but it's a strength.

It's definitely more the sports tourer than it is a cruiser. The engine character is more rev happy than torquey and the riding position is too aggressive. It's not necessarily a bad thing, though - it's great for carving corners and is still comfy enough for longer rides.
