TVS Ronin 225 Review

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

There were many rumours and stories floating around the internet about TVS' much-anticipated motorcycle, all of which can now be put to rest. TVS has finally introduced Ronin, its first entry into the lifestyle retro motorcycle segment. According to the manufacturers, they introduced the TVS Ronin in the Indian market with an "unexpected design."

The name Ronin comes from the Japanese language and literally means "wandering samurai with no lord or master." According to TVS, this is the philosophy behind the new motorcycle, a machine with "no master." And, by all appearances, the automaker has reached its goal. The new bike marks the company's entry into a new market.

TVS Ronin Design and Style

If you think about it, the Ronin isn't the first TVS motorcycle with a retro design; remember the Fiero FX? The Ronin features a round LED headlamp with a T-shaped DRL in the centre, similar to the Zeppelin concept. There's also a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, alloy wheels with 17-inch block-pattern tyres, and a scrambler-style rear end with an integrated LED tail-lamp. The seat is raised slightly, and the offset round LED instrument cluster adds to the retro theme. The Ronin is a dual-purpose motorcycle, with retro-scrambler styling and dual-purpose tyres implying some light off-road capability.

TVS Ronin Engine and Gearbox

Powering the Ronin is an all-new 225.9cc Single Cylinder, 4 Stroke, 4 Valve, SOHC, an oil-cooled powertrain that puts out a Max Power of 15.01 kW (20.4 HP) @ 7750 rpm and a Max Torque of 19.93 Nm @ 3750 rpm. These figures show the new TVS Ronin produces slightly less power but 2.6 Nm more torque than the Apache 200, showing that it is more versatile than its sportier high-strung sibling. The 225cc engine comes paired with a 5-speed manual transmission system with assist and slipper clutch.

TVS Ronin Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

Built on a Double Cradle Split Synchro Stiff Frame, TVS has suspended the motorcycle via 41mm Showa big-piston forks up front and a gas-charged mono-shock with 7 steps adjustable preload at the rear. The Ronin also makes use of a 300mm Disc at the front and a 240mm Disc at the rear. Dual-Channel ABS aids the brake system along with ABS Modes such as Rain & Urban. TVS offers the Ronin with 17-inch 9 Spoke Alloy Wheels wrapped around with 110/70-17 Tubeless tyre at the front and 130/70-17 Tubeless tyre at the rear.

Instrument Console of TVS Ronin

2023 TVS Ronin comes standard with an offset round, digital instrument cluster that displays the standard speedometer and tachometer, as well as a side-stand indicator, phone battery alert, gear position indicator, and low fuel warning. Voice commands, smartphone connectivity via TVS SmartXonnect, turn-by-turn navigation, handlebar-integrated controls for call notifications and voice assist, two riding modes (urban and rain), a silent starter, a slip-and-assist clutch, and the TVS Arrive app, which will allow customers to experience the TVS lineup in augmented reality, are also included.

Key Features of TVS Ronin

Some of the key features of the new TVS Ronin 225 are All LED Lamps, Fully Digital Console, Asymmetric Speedometer, Distance to Empty (DTE), Two Trip meters, Block Tread Tyre between Chain Cover, Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), Gear Shift Assist, Side Stand Sign, Side Stand Engine Inhibitor, Hazard Lamp, Service Due Sign, Ride Modes (Rain & Urban), Upside Front Fork, Glide Through Technology (GTT), Slipper Clutch and ABS.

Top Speed and Mileage of TVS Ronin

The top speed of new TVS Ronin is 120 km/h, and the mileage is expected to be around 30 to 35 km/l.

TVS Ronin Colour Options

2023 TVS Ronin is available in 6 colour options: Lightning Black, Stargaze Black, Galactic Grey, Delta Blue, Dawn Orange, and Magma Red.

TVS Ronin Competitors

The new TVS Ronin appears to be competing with the likes of Bajaj Dominar 250, Benelli Leoncino 250, Honda CB350RS, Husqvarna Svartpilen 250, Royal Enfield Scram 411, and Yezdi Scrambler.
