Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The TVS Phoenix 125 offers a solid balance between performance, styling, and economy, making it an appealing choice for city commuters and daily riders in India. Its 125cc EcoThrust engine delivers a respectable 10.8 bhp and torque of 10.8 Nm, suitable for urban and suburban use. The bike’s lightweight design and comfortable ergonomics improve maneuverability and ride comfort, making it ideal for office goers and middle-aged buyers seeking a stylish commuter. Despite being discontinued since 2017, the Phoenix’s distinctive features like a digital instrument cluster, LED tail light, and premium looks still hold relevance. However, it falls short compared to newer models in terms of outright power and aggressive styling. For a buyer prioritizing reliability, mileage, and smooth city riding, the Phoenix remains a compelling option, provided they can source a well-maintained used model. The bike’s classic yet understated appeal with decent features sets it apart as a commuter that blends utility with a hint of flair.

The TVS Phoenix is a compelling choice for buyers seeking a stylish and efficient 125cc commuter motorcycle. It strikes a strong balance between performance and fuel economy, delivering a refined ride with adequate power for city commuting and occasional highway use. The digital instrument cluster, LED lighting, and tubeless tyres add a premium feel uncommon in this segment. Its lightweight chassis and comfortable ergonomics make it accessible for a wide range of riders, including shorter commuters. Although discontinued, the Phoenix stands out for its smooth EcoThrust engine and solid build quality. Its blend of aesthetics, practicality, and cost-effectiveness appeals especially to office goers and middle-class families who want a bike that combines style with economy. However, the limited availability of spare parts can be a concern for long-term ownership. Overall, it remains a well-rounded batch of power, mileage, and features for daily riding.

Price

Pricing details and changes

Since the TVS Phoenix is discontinued, new units are not available, but second-hand pricing offers insights into its value. Typically, the ex-showroom price for this model hovered between Rs. 52,000 to Rs. 56,000 across major Indian cities when last available. On-road prices vary by state due to differences in taxes, insurance, and registration but generally range around Rs. 57,000 to Rs. 62,000. For instance, in Chennai, the ex-showroom price was about Rs. 53,000, and in Kerala Rs. 51,000, excluding additional charges. Buyers looking for used units should compare prices carefully considering the condition, mileage, and availability of spare parts. Given the Phoenix’s discontinuation, prices tend to be competitive for its reliability and mileage credentials, making it an economical package for budget-conscious buyers willing to invest in a lightly used model.
December 6, 2025
When it was last available in India, the TVS Phoenix’s ex-showroom price ranged roughly between ₹52,000 to ₹56,000 depending on the variant — drum brake or disc brake — and city. On-road prices would typically add ₹5,000 to ₹8,000, including registration, insurance, and taxes, bringing the on-road cost close to ₹58,000 to ₹64,000 in metro cities. Though production stopped around 2017, this price band positioned the Phoenix competitively within the budget 125cc commuter segment against rivals like Honda CB Shine and Bajaj Discover 125. The pricing strategy suggested good value by offering premium features such as LED lights and a digital console without a hefty price premium. Today, potential owners shopping used Phoenix bikes should consider availability of parts and service support against the attractive price points. The Phoenix was priced attractively to appeal to price-conscious Indian buyers who want modern features along with fuel efficiency in a compact package.

TVS has been struggling from a long time to be in the list of top manufacturers of the country. Here they present the Phoenix 125.

TVS has been struggling from a long time to be in the list of top manufacturers of the country. No doubt it has provided the Apache series which is performance oriented and Star series, which focuses economy, the two wheeler giant wished to compete with a combination of both. Here they present the Phoenix 125.

Design and Style

With a very simple looking design, 2015 Phoenix 125 attracts the buyers who love beauty with simplicity, although the missing curves are compensated with the help of attractive body graphics on the fuel tank. The newly designed disc brake is very nice looking and add up a distinctive style statement.

Instrument Console

Phoenix features a fully digital speedometer which looks very premium. Digital fuel indicator and odometer is also in the same pod and provide a very delightful experience while riding.

Engine and Performance

2015 TVS Phoenix features a 124.5 cc air-cooled 4 stroke-single cylinder engine which is capable of producing 10.8 Bhp @ 8000 rpm and a torque of 10.8 Nm @ 5500 rpm. It is mated to a 4 speed constant mesh manual gearbox with a wet multi plate clutch.

Comfort while Riding

The 2015 Phoenix 125 picks up at lower speeds in higher gears. No need of gear shifting at regular intervals while cruising in the city and the ride becomes very exciting. It performs better than most of the rivals in the 125 cc segment. Disc brake helps to calm it down even when it reaches 100 kmph.

Mileage

Being a 125 cc mill, Phoenix returns quiet a good figure of 55 kmpl in the city, which in turn increases to 60 kmpl on the highway.

Brakes and Suspension

TVS makes it a game changer with its special Roto Petal disc brake which dissipates heat faster and ensures efficient braking. It’s not just impressive safety provider but a style icon too. For a comfortable ride, twin 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers with series spring are given at the rear with telescopic oil damped type at the front.

Ride and Handling

TVS has given its Phoenix a 165 mm ground clearance with 17 inch 90/90 tyres which are good enough for a comfortable ride experience. Riding at higher speed feels like power deficient but in city environment, it can be very comfortable at even very low speeds.

Variants

2015 Phoenix comes in 3 variants namely Phoenix drum, Phoenix Disc, Phoenix disc (Alpine White Edition).

Shades

2015 TVS Phoenix 125 is available in six attractive shades - Crimson Black, Black Magic, Midnight Black, Red Hot, Cherry White, White Night.

Price

Phoenix drum version is available at 51,160 INR whereas the disc version is for 53,220 INR. The Alpine White Edition costs 53,600 INR.

Verdict

Despite of being a feature rich bike, TVS Phoenix 125 will have a long list of rivals who might have got less to show, actually their name matters a lot to the ones who are there to buy.

What they meant by 'premium'? TVS just introduced this bike and they are showing it as awarded by NDTV as the best bike in 2013! This is Feb 2013 and within this two months they got awarded! Making fool of people by TVS and NDTV! This very ordinary looking bike. If you paint 125 on Yamaha's alba that will look like this. TVS needs research to bring a product like Apache. Don't fool Indians.
