Triumph Daytona 675R Review

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Daytona has a full size fairing which comes with an integrated engine cowl. This fairing and up-raised fuel tank adds visual bulk to this bike. The dual tone colors on this fairing make it look explicit. It also features racy decals and integrated LED side indicators on it. The sharp and aggressive design of this fairing continues at its front. The twin headlights of this bike get separated by its edgy cowl which also carries the black colored rear view mirrors. The transparent visor looks V-shaped and complements the sporty appearance of this bike. Its body colored front fender features nice cuts and get extended along its front forks. Its five spoke alloy wheels also looks attractive with black finish. The shiny compact muffler and rear tyre adds muscularity to this bike. The split seats and up-swept rear cowl looks flashy with graphics. The rear cowl also features its LED tail light which looks modern and enhances the appearance of its tail section. The extended fender of Daytona carries its number plate and side indicators. The naked chain and the gap between its rear tyre and cowl look extremely sporty.

Instrument Console

The bike has a very stylish and futuristic combined analogue-digital instrument console. It features a blue colored LCD on the left side which displays its digital speedometer, 2-trip meter and odometer. It also gives other essential information to the rider through its digital clock, lap timer and gear position indicators. Many other LED indicators are also placed in this instrument console. The bike has a circular dial on the right side which houses its analogue tachometer.

Engine and Gearbox

The bike is powered by a three cylinder, liquid-cooled 675cc engine. This 12 valve, DOHC engine pumps out a power output of 126.2 bhp at 12500 rpm. Its torque output of 74 Nm is accessible at 11900 rpm. Triumph has mated this engine with a six-speed gearbox. This gearbox has one gear down and five gears up-shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

It’s a racing machine which has been blessed with strong high range. The engine performs best after 5000rpm. The maximum power and torque arrives at high rpms which forces you to rev this bike hard. The engine sound is also quite impressive around 10000rpm. Though, it becomes a bit noisy after that and does not feel as refined as other 4-cylinder engines. Triumph has opted for short gear ratios which avoids turbo lag and makes it fast at low rpms. The bike reaches 100km/hr from standstill in less than 4 seconds. The bike can easily cross the speed of 150km/hr. The instant throttle reaction also helps this bike to get off to a flying start. The light gearbox and clutch has been matched well with this engine. While using it in city, you have to be in the right gear to get the maximum out of this engine due to delay in its torque arrival. The performance of this bike would have been much better with more amount of torque at low rpms.

Mileage

We are not sure about its accurate mileage but this bike may return a mileage of around 15-18km/ltr on Indian roads.

Comfort while Driving

The bike offers a sporty riding posture which not only boosts your confidence but gives you comfort on long journeys. The light handle levers and foot-pegs of Daytona are easy to use and offer good grip as well. The split seats feel well-padded and the high quality of fabric also makes it premium. The rear set foot pegs and high positioned handle bar offers aerodynamic position. This handlebar also offers firm grip to the rider while its edgy fuel tank gives space to your knees. The narrow design of Daytona gives you complete sense of control on it.

Storage Space and Safety Features

There is not much storage space in this bike. Yes, its powerful headlight, pass button and brake callipers try to ensure your safety. The coded key immobilizer is also a vital safety feature in this bike.

Suspension and Brakes

Daytona 675 features fully adjustable 41mm KYB telescopic forks at its front while it has a gas charged KYB mono shock at the back with swing arm which has a wheel travel of 129mm. The bike is equipped with disc brakes on its both wheels. The bike has twin floating disc brakes of 310mm with 4-piston calliper at its front and it features a single rear disc brake of 220mm with single piston calliper. Triumph may launch Daytona with switchable ABS for precise braking.

Ride and Handling

Its aluminium frame and wheelbase of 1375mm brings stability to this racing machine. The high speed stability further increases with its strong suspension system and broad tyres. The bike always remains grounded and offers impressive handling. Its ground clearance of 140mm improves its aerodynamics and keeps it stable at low rpms. With its accurate braking system and light handling, it’s quite easy to use this bike in city traffic. You can frequently change lanes at high speeds as it never loose contact with road and steers accurately. Bumpy rides should not bother you either as its beefy forks easily digest potholes.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

The front and rear tyre size of Daytona 675 is 120/70 R17 and 180/55 R17 respectively. Triumph may launch two variants of this bike in three different shades.

Verdict

The bike is a direct competitor of Kawasaki Ninja 650R and Hyosung GT650R in our Indian bike market. It’s a very attractive bike which is impressive in terms of performance and features. The bike looks like a good package and fails to be a complete value for money bike in India with a price tag of INR 11.40 lakhs (ex-Delhi), which is on the higher side in comparison to its rivals.

By far Daytona is best among the rest. It is way more aggressive in its mid range then any other bike.. Better cornering and as being lightest in its category it can go 0-100 in just 3.5 ... Its look awesome in white.. Ninja is also a great pick but if I can save money and buy a bike which can get to the numbers much faster and cheaper I'll surely go with it....
