Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

KTM 1290 Super Duke R had terrific power, satisfying daily-rider ergonomics, and the immediate response that earmarks most race bikes. KTM's “Ready to Race” slogan was aptly fulfilled. The 1,301cc V-Twin is the star of the show, and the Super Duke's minimal bodywork and trellis frame does little to hide it

Recent news and announcements

The KTM 1390 Super Duke R has established itself as the pinnacle of naked sportbike performance in India since its launch in November 2024. Priced at ₹22.96 lakh ex-showroom, this beast delivers an absolutely thrilling ride with its 1350cc V-twin engine producing a commanding 190 horsepower and 145 Newton-meters of torque. What strikes me most is the incredible power-to-weight ratio, hovering near a perfect 1:1, making this machine feel razor-sharp and agile despite its substantial performance credentials. The bike feels planted and predictable thanks to its semi-active WP APEX suspension system and Brembo Stylema braking setup, which instills confidence whether you're carving through mountain passes or navigating city traffic. The adjustable riding modes, including Street, Sport, Rain, Performance, and Track, allow me to tailor the experience to various conditions. The fully digital TFT display with KTMconnect connectivity keeps you informed and connected, while the 17.5-liter fuel tank ensures decent range for spirited riding sessions. While fuel consumption averages around 16.9 kmpl and maintenance costs will be premium, the sheer exhilaration and technological sophistication justify the investment for serious enthusiasts seeking an uncompromising Indian motorcycle experience.

The KTM 1390 Super Duke R continues to command the premium naked bike segment in India with its impressive performance credentials. Since its launch in November 2024 at ₹22.96 lakh ex-showroom, this Austrian machine has established itself as a formidable presence in the market. The 1350cc V-twin engine delivers a robust 190 horsepower and 145 Newton-meters of torque, making it one of the most powerful naked bikes available domestically. What sets it apart is the comprehensive electronics package featuring a five-inch TFT display with KTMconnect smartphone integration, five distinct ride modes ranging from Street to Track, and semi-active suspension on the EVO variant. The kerb weight of 210 kilograms ensures nimble handling despite its substantial power output, while the 17.5-liter fuel tank provides adequate range. The bike returns 16.94 kilometers per liter in real-world conditions. I find the aggressive styling with LED headlamps and sculpted bodywork particularly striking, staying true to KTM's design philosophy. The availability of financing options with EMIs starting from ₹46,555 makes this premium offering relatively accessible. An exciting development is the anticipated launch of the 1390 Super Duke RR variant in 2026, which should offer even more thrilling performance dynamics for dedicated enthusiasts.

I've been tracking the KTM 1390 Super Duke R closely since its India launch on November 14, 2024, and it remains the pinnacle of naked bike performance here at an ex-showroom price of ₹22.96 lakh in a single variant with orange or black schemes. This beast packs a 1350cc liquid-cooled LC8 V-twin engine churning out 190hp at 10,000rpm and 145Nm at 8,000rpm, paired with a six-speed gearbox and slip-assist clutch featuring cam shift tech for razor-sharp response. I love how the five-inch TFT with optional KTMconnect delivers navigation, calls, and five ride modes—Street for full power, Sport for sharper throttle and wheel slip, Rain capping at 128bhp with max traction, plus customizable Performance and Track setups. Add five-level wheelie control, lean-sensitive ABS, traction and slide control, launch control, cruise, and engine braking, all backed by Brembo Stylema calipers on 320mm front and 240mm rear discs with Michelin Power GP tires. At 200kg kerb, 834mm seat height, 149mm ground clearance, and 17.5L tank good for around 17kmpl, it's a track weapon that thrives on Indian twisties but demands respect on highways due to vibes and heat on longer hauls. Deliveries are rolling out now through KTM's network, making it my top pick for adrenaline junkies chasing hyper-naked supremacy.

I've been tracking the KTM 1390 Super Duke R closely since its launch in India last November at an ex-showroom price of around 22.96 lakh rupees, and it's proving to be the ultimate hyper-naked beast for Indian riders craving raw power on twisty roads like those in the Western Ghats. This 1350cc LC8 V-twin liquid-cooled engine pumps out 190 PS at 10,000 rpm and 145 Nm at 8,000 rpm, paired with a slick six-speed gearbox and slip-assist clutch, making every throttle twist an adrenaline rush with a top speed touching 250 kmph. The WP Apex semi-active suspension, adjustable Brembo Stylema brakes with 320mm front discs, and Michelin Power GP tires on 17-inch wheels deliver razor-sharp handling, though its 834mm seat height and 200kg dry weight demand respect from shorter riders. Electronics shine with four ride modes—Rain, Street, Sport, Performance, and Track—plus lean-sensitive traction control, five-level wheelie mitigation, slide control, launch control, and cruise, all via a crisp TFT display. Available in striking Orange, it's a track-bred monster with 17.5-litre tank for decent range despite thirsty 16-17 kmpl mileage, but high maintenance and heat from the V-twin can fatigue on long hauls. Dealers are stocked in major cities like Delhi and Mumbai, and with Bajaj's backing post-KTM acquisition, updates like potential color refreshes or the teased RR variant could hit soon, keeping it ahead in India's premium naked segment.

The 2025 KTM 1390 Super Duke GT is set to arrive at dealers in January 2025, boasting a powerful 188hp V-twin engine, semi-active WP SAT suspension, and advanced features like radar cruise control and adaptive brake assist. This sport-tourer also includes a new 8.8-inch touchscreen TFT dash and improved ergonomics for long-distance comfort. I think this bike is a game-changer for those who want both performance and practicality.

Expert Verdict

Professional reviews and expert opinions on KTM Super Duke

But here is how I think about the KTM Super Duke — a motorcycle with a kind of soul all its own.

But here is how I think about the KTM Super Duke — a motorcycle with a kind of soul all its own. This is a bike that says it warms up and is ready to take you for a ride you won’t forget. Those of you who have ever wanted something that just pushes back enough to keep it interesting may be calling This beast’s name. This isn’t going to be a fancy write up. Just me, about a machine that made it’s mark.

Power, Pure and Simple

Let’s get to the core of what makes the Super Duke a real thrill: the engine. It’s not a tea kettle V-twin. Feeling its power growling from under the tank, this motor doesn’t just roar — it’s practically daring you to open it up. Picture that twisting the throttle and you feel that surge of power sweep through. This is no gentle build up, we’re jolted awake with a grin. Whether it’s cruising through the city or ripping on an open road, there’s a ton to keep the adrenaline flowing aboard the Duke’s.

It’s more like a Dance Partner who’s leading

It found that one thing that stuck with me is how this bike handles a turn. It's almost like dancing, except with this dance you need to keep up. The Super Duke doesn’t do 'laid back.' A super lightweight frame and geometry designed to be agile, it’s a bike that wants to go fast, turn fast and sit deep. It wants respect, and if you give it that, respect it gives back in every corner. This bike will have you on your toes and some, weaving through traffic or carving up some winding roads. This is a bike that allows you to live it.

Features That Matter

This bike came loaded with features, but not for no reason. It’s nothing like one of those ‘loaded with gadgets’ kind of rides. There’s something about everything here that just feels intentional, practical and like it’s really meant to make your time on the bike better. The first big win is the riding modes. And if you are looking for something chill, you got what you are looking for. However, if you want to throw this bike into warp 9 you can flip it into Sport or into Track mode. And traction control? It’s like having a safety net there for you when things get wild — with this much power.

The TFT display also earns a shout. The light, bright, and not full of random info. You only see what you need, no more, no less. I was also glad that KTM didn’t want to throw all kinds of “high tech” stuff at this screen. You’re looking at a spaceship console, but it’s simple, effectives, and it gives you what you need at a glance.

It’s a Rollercoaster, Not a Sofa … Comfort

Here’s the thing: if you want something soft, something cushy, something smooth as silk in a seat, you might consider other options. The Super Duke wasn’t a comfort motorcycle; it was a thrill motorcycle. Seat’s firm, riding position is very aggressive. So it’s not exactly the kind of wheel you would take out for a long, lazy Sunday drive but if you’re in the mood for an adrenaline rush that’s all part of it. After a good ride there will be some soreness, but that’s the kind of reminder that this bike gives you. It’s something like ‘Yep we decided to go for it’ (and you’ll absolutely love it).

Is It Practical? Well, That’s Not the Point

Surely, the Super Duke is not really a practical thing. It’s not the bike you get for fuel efficiency, or storage space. It’s for someone who doesn’t want to miss a shred of the road, or every beat of the engine. If you like feeling a bikes raw power, this is the ride that will give you a chance to. It’s not about getting you from A to B in the most sensible way; it’s about enjoying the contents of the journey. If you’re okay with that, you’ll get it.

Final Thoughts — Who is this bike really for?

The Super Duke was really made for who, then? That’s not for everyone, definitely. What’s not to like about a bike with attitude and a little bit of a wild streak? It’s not going to pamper you, it’s not going to keep things relaxed. It’s the bike you’re more than happy to have as your default option, the bike to go to when you want to feel a little more alive, when you just want a ride that will shake you up in the very best way. It’s a bike with personality, so if you ever were someone who tends to like a bit of a thrill, this could be your new best friend. If you want comfort, practicality, something low key…you might want to think twice.

But what we have here is a motorcycle, namely a KTM Super Duke, and not just a motorcycle although this is in fact a full on experience. Not just riding, but living it through every second of it, is this bike. If that’s why you’re here, perhaps it’s time you rode this beast. Just know too, it’s got a personality — treat it right and you’ve got one heck of a ride coming up.
