KTM New RC 390 (2017)

About
The 2017 KTM RC 390 is a sleek and powerful sports bike designed for enthusiasts who crave adrenaline-packed rides. With its 373.2cc single-cylinder engine, it produces 43.5 horsepower and 36 Nm of torque, making it potent enough for both street and track use. The bike features a six-speed gearbox and a slipper clutch, enhancing its performance and handling. The aggressive riding position, with low clip-ons and high footpegs, is tailored for spirited riding but may not be comfortable for long journeys. The 2017 model saw significant improvements in reliability, particularly with the revised engine design that fixed the head gasket issues of earlier models. This bike is perfect for riders who are looking to upgrade from their first bike and are eager to experience the thrill of a modern sports bike.

USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The 2017 KTM RC 390 is a formidable choice for those seeking a thrilling and agile sports bike. Having ridden this bike for an extended period, I can attest to its exceptional performance and handling. The revised engine design for the 2017 model has significantly improved reliability, addressing the head gasket issues that plagued earlier models. While it may not be the most comfortable bike, especially for long rides due to its aggressive riding position, it more than makes up for this with its exhilarating ride quality and instant torque delivery. This bike is ideal for experienced riders who enjoy spirited street rides and track days, but it may not be the best fit for beginners or those seeking a commuter bike.
Price
In India, the 2017 KTM RC 390 was priced competitively in the sports bike segment. At the time of its launch, the ex-showroom price was around 2.25 lakh. However, the on-road price, including taxes, registration, and other costs, would have been closer to 2.75 lakh to 3 lakh, depending on the state and local taxes. Considering its performance, build quality, and the improvements made over the previous models, the 2017 RC 390 offered good value for money. For those looking to purchase a used model, prices can vary based on the bikes condition and mileage, but you can expect to pay between 1.8 lakh to 2.5 lakh.
Latest Updates
Saturday, 21 October 2017 03:02 PM The 2017 KTM RC 390 saw significant updates, including the introduction of ride-by-wire technology, a slipper clutch, and a new exhaust system that improves ground clearance. These changes enhanced the bikes performance and handling, especially in track riding scenarios. The riding ergonomics were also tweaked for a more supersport riding position.
Friday, 15 September 2017 07:21 PM KTM addressed the reliability issues of the earlier RC 390 models by revising the engine design for the 2017 model year. This update fixed the problem of head gaskets failing, making the 2017 model more reliable for riders. I think this move was crucial in regaining customer trust.
Monday, 28 August 2017 12:23 PM The 2017 KTM RC 390 features a 373.2 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine with improved power and torque delivery. The engine now includes a second counter-balancer shaft to reduce vibrations, an updated ECU, and an enhanced cooling system. This makes the bike smoother to ride over long distances.
Friday, 21 July 2017 05:58 PM The braking system of the 2017 KTM RC 390 was upgraded with a larger 320mm front disc and a ByBre radial four-piston caliper, along with dual-channel ABS. Adjustable brake and clutch levers were also added as standard features, enhancing the bikes braking performance. I believe these upgrades make the RC 390 one of the best in its class for braking.
Monday, 26 June 2017 08:45 PM The new RC 390 boasts improved suspension, with WP 43mm inverted front forks that are tuned for both road and track riding. Although not fully adjustable, the suspension works well with the bikes power delivery, making it a joy to ride through corners.
Friday, 16 June 2017 01:23 AM KTM introduced several cosmetic updates to the 2017 RC 390, including new body panels, color schemes, and a redesigned tail unit. The bike also features LED lights around the controls, which are particularly useful for night riding. I think these small touches add a lot to the bikes overall appeal.
Saturday, 20 May 2017 06:17 AM The 2017 KTM RC 390 has a top speed of around 169 km/h, with an electronically limited top speed to prevent engine damage. The bikes powerband is particularly useful for riding through tight, twisty roads, where its instant torque delivery shines.
Tuesday, 25 April 2017 06:59 AM The bikes ergonomics were designed with a more aggressive stance, featuring a wider and slightly higher handlebar. This setup is ideal for track riding but may not be the best for everyday road use. I think this makes the RC 390 a great choice for beginners looking to get into track riding.
Wednesday, 15 March 2017 07:59 AM The 2017 KTM RC 390 includes several convenience features such as a new seat, bellypan, and adjustable levers. These additions enhance the overall riding experience and provide more versatility for riders of different heights and preferences.
Monday, 20 February 2017 08:55 AM KTMs decision to add a cooling fan to the radiator, although beneficial for cooling performance, resulted in a loud noise when the engine is idling. This can be a minor annoyance, especially in traffic. I believe its a trade-off for the improved cooling.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 10:27 AM The mileage of the 2017 KTM RC 390 is decent for a sports bike, though it is not its strongest suit. You can expect an average fuel efficiency of around 25-30 kml in mixed riding conditions. However, this can drop significantly if you are riding aggressively, which is often the case with this bike. Given its performance-oriented nature, the mileage is reasonable, but it may not be the most economical option for daily commuting.

KTM RC390 is Value for Money

The bike has Got everything a rider wants. You can take it for touring and as well as for daily commute. The bike has so much power stored in it. Everyone is seeing its competition with ninja 300 and Yamaha r3 but if you see there prices are nearly double of it and they are twin cylinder bikes and this one is single cylinder bike . The heating problem is due to the single cylinder as the bike has too powerful engine with single cylinder but if you see the performance than this bike has got way too much than its rivals. If you want sporty looks with abs safety and high performance this one is for you.

Best Features: Console, Ride by Wire.

Pros: Ride By Wire, Abs , Brakes, Console, Looks, Build Quality, Power, and everything

Cons: Heating Problem and Mileage

Bike for the Real Rider

The KTM 390 Duke is a wonderful bike. It delivers an awesome riding experience and it takes no time at going higher speeds. The handling is quite good but it takes me some time to get used to it. On the clear roads there are no any engine issues but in the case of traffic jam, it heats up pretty quick. One more thing which goes against the bike is its horn and headlight. I would recommend to change the headlights and increase the horn intensity so that you stay safe.

Best Features: Ease in Handling and Looks

Pros: Appearance, Easy gear shifting, Handling

Cons: Weak horn & headlights, Lack of storage for kit/papers, Engine heating

A Street Bike Designed For Paved Roads

The KTM 390 Duke is a beast of motorcycle. It is light weight and you can handle it comfortably. The most important thing is that it generates a good torque value which makes your journey enjoyable on streets and safe om highways. Look wise it is quite attractive which will definitely encourage you to buy it. It has a great engine which offers more power in comparison to other beginner bikes. The braking system is quite impressive which is the standout feature of this bike. Coming to the downside, you will notice that the fuel tank capacity is quite low where cannot expect long tours. The clutch is too heavy and the quality of wheels are also not good. On the other hand, the throttle response of this machine is rough, especially at low rev ranges. The another issue with this bike is engine oil which sometimes starts leaking which reduces the oil level.

Best Features: Excellent Brakes & Eye Catching Looks

Pros: Eye catching looks, powerful engine, excellent brakes, light weight

Cons: Low fuel tank capacity, heavy clutch, rough throttle, bad wheel quality, engine oil problem
