Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 in India: should ₹5 lakh touring-bike buyers wait for the reported EICMA 2026 debut?

Question

Reports of a near-production Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 and a reported EICMA 2026 debut for the brand’s new 750cc platform have created a practical timing question for Indian road-touring buyers.

What is known, and what is not

Reported: recent coverage says a Himalayan 750 test mule appears closer to production and that Royal Enfield plans to introduce a 750cc platform at EICMA 2026.
Unannounced: India launch timing, final specifications, variants, equipment and price have not been confirmed by Royal Enfield.
Expected price: third-party estimates place it below ₹5 lakh, but that is not a confirmed India price.

Why the decision matters

For a buyer focused on highway touring, mountain roads and occasional broken stretches, the main comparison is not simply engine size. It is whether the current options already meet the brief for relaxed overtakes, rider and pillion comfort, fuel range, luggage support, service reach and realistic ownership cost—or whether a still-unannounced model is worth delaying a purchase for.

The buyer question is whether a future 750 will offer enough extra value to justify delaying a proven option. For highway use, judge the eventual model on stability, brakes, tyres and support network alongside power. If the current motorcycle already meets the route and budget, waiting has an opportunity cost.

An overlooked factor is rider and pillion comfort after the first hour, not just seat height in a showroom. Before holding money for an unannounced model, make a simple checklist: riding posture, wind protection, suspension adjustment, luggage mounting, tyre replacement cost and room in the budget for protective gear. Those choices shape a touring purchase more than a launch headline.

Compared with buying a current model, waiting exchanges known support for an unknown ownership picture. The first questions after launch should be service training, spare-parts availability, warranty wording, consumable costs and whether the dealer network can support a new platform outside major cities. A touring motorcycle can look compelling on paper yet become expensive if routine parts or diagnosis take too long. That is why reliability evidence should build over time rather than be inferred from prototype coverage.

The practical verdict is to wait only when the existing shortlist feels meaningfully compromised. A middleweight twin could improve relaxed overtaking, but everyday usability will still depend on heat management, kerb weight, turning effort and low-speed response. Riders who commute frequently should give those factors the same weight as highway performance.

If the purchase can wait until the full specification and India plan are clear, waiting may be reasonable. The key cost test is not an expected ex-showroom number; it is the on-road total after insurance, accessories, finance interest and the likely first-year touring setup. Until that is known, a buyer should avoid treating a sub-₹5 lakh estimate as a budget commitment.

Caution is sensible here: the 750cc platform and EICMA timing are reported, while the India launch, final hardware and price are still unannounced. A buyer who needs predictable touring safety should compare current motorcycles on braking confidence, tyre availability, service reach and luggage load limits—not assume that a larger engine will settle those questions.
