Indian Motorcycle Manufacturing Company has gone through a lot in the previous century and is now trying to go back to its original glory and legend with the help of Polaris Industries who take control of it in 2011. Recently, they launched three new motorcycles in US market based on original Indian legacy and with exciting new features. Indian Chief Classic is one of these bikes that is gathering a lot of muster because of its stylish design and advanced features.
Exterior
The exterior of Indian Chief Classic gives a stylish, elegant and yet a powerful look with superior features. It has a keyless starting system with a Push button Start feature, extensive use of chrome wherever possible, its iconic and classic vintage badging which has been its hallmark since 1910, a genuine and iconic war bonnet mounted atop the front fender in a chrome frame for better lighting, its stylish, elegant and functional valence fenders for great protection with brake calliper covers, 16-inch high-quality laced wheels with sixty chrome-finished spokes and DUNLOP AMERICAN ELITE tubeless tires, Stage 1 Slip-On exhaust for more throttle response and power with stylish fishtail exhaust tips, quick release windshield for comfort and protection and which can be easily detached, a Pinnacle cover collection for horn cover, cam cover and primary cover featuring branding and graphics and many more features. It also has a ABS feature, a cast aluminium frame with integrated Air-box, Cruise control, a light bar, premium and comfortable seats and an illuminated tank mounted instrument console with electronic speedometer and odometer, dual trip meters, digital tachometer, ambient air temperature, fuel range, average fuel economy, battery voltage, gear position display, real-time clock, vehicle trouble-code readout, heated grip level, low engine oil pressure and 9 other LED TELL TALE indicators.
Dimensions and Weight
It has a length of 2629mm, width of 1011mm and height of 1176mm as its dimensions along with a seat height of 660mm and has a large wheelbase of 1729mm for a stable ride. It has a rake and trail of 29degrees and 155mm respectively and 20.82 litres of fuel tank capacity. It has a gross vehicle mass of 572kgs and an empty tank weight of 353kgs.
Engine and Gearbox
Indian Chief Classic has a 1811cc, Liquid-cooled, Wet Multi-plate Clutch, Closed Loop Fuel Injection, 9.5:1 compression ratio, Thunder Stroke 111 engine with a bore and stroke of 101mm and 113mm respectively to provide a maximum torque of 138.9 Nm at 2600 rpm and has a six speed gearbox transmission. Indian Chief Classic has floating rotor type dual disk brakes with 4-piston callipers at front and floating rotor type single disk brakes with 2-piston callipers at rear. The suspension system consists of 119mm Telescopic Forks at front and 94mm Single Shock at rear.
Shades and Warranty
Indian Chief Classic has only single variant available and has three shades to choose from which includes Thunder Black, Springfield Blue and Indian Motorcycle Red. It also includes a 5 years coverage including a one year limited warranty plus a five years extended service contract with no mileage limitations.
Verdict
Overall, Indian Chief Classic is a classic and comfortable motorcycle with great performance, luxury, safety, style and uniqueness.
