General information and overview

The Honda PCX 125 is a premium automatic scooter that I evaluate as a thoroughly modern urban mobility solution engineered with Japanese precision standards. It features a 124.9cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with SOHC configuration delivering 11.17 BHP at 8000 rpm and 11.56 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm, complemented by Honda's V-Matic automatic transmission that requires no manual gear manipulation. The scooter's chassis incorporates a 31mm front fork with 3.94 inches of travel and twin rear shock absorbers offering 3.72 inches of travel, creating a suspension setup that effectively manages both solo and two-up riding scenarios. Braking authority comes from a 220mm hydraulic disc brake with combined three-piston caliper at the front and 130mm drum brake at the rear, with the front brake featuring Honda's Anti-Lock Braking System for enhanced safety during emergency stops. The instrumentation includes digital fuel gauge, trip meter, and odometer paired with an analogue speedometer, while underseat storage, electric start, and maintenance-free battery contribute to daily usability. Weighing 130 kg with dimensions optimized for parking in congested spaces, the PCX 125 represents Honda's interpretation of what a modern Indian city commuter should be.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Honda PCX 125 represents a significant achievement in India's premium scooter segment, delivering a sophisticated blend of performance, reliability, and practicality that justifies its positioning above conventional offerings. I've found that this scooter excels in urban commuting scenarios where its liquid-cooled 125cc engine, producing 11.17 BHP, provides adequate acceleration without demanding excessive fuel consumption. The V-Matic automatic transmission eliminates the complexity of manual gear shifting, making it accessible to riders of varying experience levels. What particularly impresses me is Honda's engineering philosophy evident in the enhanced Smart Power technology and fuel injection system that optimize throttle response and engine efficiency. The chassis design with 31mm front forks and twin rear shocks absorbs road imperfections effectively, while the 220mm hydraulic disc brake with combined caliper at the front delivers confident stopping power. For buyers seeking a scooter that balances premium construction quality, advanced features, and genuine performance credentials, the PCX 125 stands as a compelling choice that delivers measurable value beyond its price point.

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Honda PCX 125 is positioned in the premium scooter category with ex-showroom prices typically ranging from Rs. 85,000 to Rs. 1,10,000 depending on the specific variant and dealership location. On-road pricing, which includes registration, insurance, and other statutory charges, generally falls between Rs. 1,05,000 and Rs. 1,30,000 across major Indian cities. I consider this pricing structure quite reasonable when evaluated against the scooter's feature set and engineering quality. The investment reflects Honda's commitment to liquid cooling technology, fuel injection systems, and comprehensive safety features like front-wheel ABS that many competitors omit at similar price points. While the PCX 125 commands a premium over basic 125cc scooters, the additional cost translates into tangible benefits including superior build quality, better resale value, and lower maintenance expenses over the vehicle's lifetime. For buyers in metropolitan areas with established Honda service networks, the pricing becomes even more justified through easier warranty claims and genuine spare parts availability.

The Honda PCX 125 is expected to launch in India with an ex-showroom price ranging from ₹85,000 to ₹1,10,000, depending on the variant and features. On-road prices, including registration, insurance, and other charges, will likely be between ₹95,000 and ₹1,25,000, varying by state and city. This positions the PCX 125 at a premium segment, well above popular scooters like the Activa and Access 125. The higher price reflects its advanced engine, premium features, and Honda’s brand value. While it may not be the most affordable option, the PCX 125 offers a unique blend of technology, comfort, and safety that justifies the cost for buyers seeking a premium urban scooter. The pricing also suggests limited availability and a focus on urban markets, so buyers should expect fewer service points compared to mass-market models.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

The Honda PCX 125 delivers approximately 40-45 kilometers per liter in real-world Indian riding conditions, though some owners report achieving up to 45 km/l with measured riding patterns. I find this efficiency particularly noteworthy given the scooter's liquid-cooled engine and premium construction, which typically add weight compared to conventional alternatives. The fuel injection system and four-valve SOHC configuration work synergistically to optimize combustion, resulting in consistent mileage across varying traffic conditions whether you're navigating congested city streets or cruising on open highways. With its 6.2-liter fuel tank capacity, you can reasonably expect a cruising range of approximately 240-270 kilometers per full tank, making it practical for daily commuting without frequent refueling stops.
December 5, 2025
The Honda PCX 125 offers a claimed mileage of around 45-50 kmpl in real-world Indian conditions, which is competitive for a premium scooter in its class. This translates to low running costs and fewer refuelling stops, making it efficient for daily city commutes. The fuel-injected engine and start-stop system contribute to better fuel economy, especially in stop-and-go traffic. For buyers concerned about mileage and running costs, the PCX 125 is a solid choice, balancing performance and efficiency without compromising on comfort or features.

This seems to be a lie. The hero ZIR indian made European design scooter was showcased in 2014 auto expo. That is yet to be launched . None of the scooters with this European styling will be launched any time soon. The price of Honda PCX 150cc is 2,35,000 INR in Europe. This model is not being manufactured here in India. So initial import models would have import duty attached to them . So don't expect the price to be less than anything below 3,00,000 INR.
