Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Honda CBR125R presents itself as a compelling entry-level sportbike for Indian riders looking for a blend of stylish design, manageable size, and solid daily usability. Its fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and LED lighting adds a modern touch often missing in this segment. The bike’s 137 kg wet weight and low seat height make it approachable for beginners and shorter riders, while the smooth six-speed gearbox offers engaging yet forgiving performance. Handling is predictable thanks to well-tuned telescopic front forks and rear monoshock suspension, striking a good balance between sporty feel and comfort on typical Indian roads. While it may not deliver explosive power, its spirited ride and respectable top speed satisfy urban commuting and occasional highway runs comfortably. Dual disc brakes with single-channel ABS provide decent stopping confidence. Overall, it strikes a fine balance between performance, style, and practicality for everyday riding in India, making it a strong contender in the 125cc sportbike category.

The Honda CBR125 is a highly appealing entry-level sportbike designed for urban riders and beginners who want a stylish, manageable bike with commendable performance for its segment. Its lightweight chassis at about 137 kg, smooth 6-speed gearbox, and aggressive sportbike styling set it apart from other 125cc offerings. The fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and LED lighting enhance the premium feel. The riding position strikes a good balance between sportiness and comfort, aided by a low seat height, making it approachable for riders of different sizes. While it won't blow you away with raw power, the sharp handling, precise brakes, and reliable suspension make it perfect for city commuting and light spirited riding on twisty roads. The bike also offers several modern features such as ride modes, USB charging, and engine cut sensor, which are quite rare in this segment. Overall, the CBR125 combines style, practicality, and decent performance, making it a sensible choice for anyone seeking a sporty yet user-friendly 125cc bike in India.

Latest Updates

Recent news and announcements

The 2024 Honda CB125R has been updated to comply with the new Euro5+ emissions regulations, which include enhanced noise restrictions and improved exhaust emissions. This has been achieved with a new, more efficient catalyzer in the exhaust without any performance loss. The bike also features a new 5-inch full-color TFT display and four new color options. I think this update makes the CB125R a more appealing and environmentally friendly choice for new riders.

The 2024 Honda CB125R retains its 125cc, four-valve, double overhead cam, liquid-cooled single cylinder engine, producing 15hp and 8.5lb ft of torque. The bike also features a 41mm Showa Separate Function Big Piston (SFF-BP) front fork and dual 296mm front discs with radially mounted four-piston callipers, along with a single 220mm rear disc. The ABS system is controlled through an inertial measurement unit (IMU). I think the combination of these features makes the CB125R a solid choice for beginners.
March 26, 2024
Honda has introduced a new 5-inch full-color TFT display for the 2024 CB125R, which is the same unit used on the CB1000R. This display allows riders to select between analogue or bar-style speed and RPM counters, and it shows fuel gauge, consumption, current gear, and a custom shift-up point on the rev counter. The new switchgear on the left handlebar is designed to be stylish and intuitive. I believe this tech upgrade will significantly enhance the riding experience.
March 26, 2024
Since its introduction in 2017, the Honda CB125R has received significant updates, including a new engine and suspension in 2021. The latest update for 2024 includes compliance with Euro5+ emissions regulations and the introduction of a new TFT display. I think these updates show Hondas commitment to keeping the model relevant and competitive.
March 22, 2024
Hondas CB125R has been updated with new styling touches and technology for 2024, aligning it more closely with the Neo Sports Café design of its larger sibling, the CB1000R. This update aims to attract beginner riders who are drawn to the styling of higher-end models. I think this strategy could work well in retaining customers within the Honda brand.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The 2025 Honda CBR125R in India is expected to be priced competitively, with the on-road cost likely to remain under INR 1.5 lakh in most major cities. Ex-showroom prices would hover around the INR 1.3 to 1.4 lakh mark depending on the state and taxes. This pricing positions it attractively against rivals, offering premium features like LED lighting, Bluetooth-enabled digital consoles, and USD front forks which are rare in this segment. Considering its sporty design and Honda’s brand reliability, it offers good value for city riders and first-time sportsbike buyers. The reasonable on-road price coupled with manageable maintenance costs makes it an appealing option for those seeking a mix of style and everyday usability without breaking the bank. The pricing also opens the door for young buyers and enthusiasts who want an aspirational motorcycle at an accessible price point.
December 9, 2025
In India, the 2025 Honda CBR125 is expected to be priced competitively around ₹1.15 to ₹1.25 lakh ex-showroom, with the on-road price likely touching close to ₹1.45 lakh depending on the city and taxes. This puts it in direct competition with other premium 125cc sportbikes and premium commuter motorcycles like the TVS Apache 160 and KTM RC 125. Given the segment, the CBR125’s pricing is aggressive considering it offers features like LED lighting, digital console with Bluetooth, USD front forks, and single-channel ABS. The bike's premium build and Honda’s reliability justify its price point, though Indian buyers focused heavily on value-for-money might consider slightly cheaper options. Still, for buyers seeking the Honda badge and a full faired sporty look with modern features, the CBR125 presents good value within its price bracket.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

In real-world Indian conditions, the Honda CBR125R is likely to deliver mileage in the range of 40 to 45 kmpl, which is practical for a 125cc sportbike with a liquid-cooled engine and sporty tuning. This makes the running costs reasonable for daily commuting, balancing fuel efficiency with spirited performance. For buyers focused on mileage, it offers a compromise between outright fuel economy and sporty character.
December 9, 2025
The CBR125 delivers a mileage of about 45 to 50 km/l in Indian road conditions, which is reasonable for a sporty 125cc bike. While it’s not the absolute most fuel-efficient in class, its balance between performance and fuel economy should satisfy urban commuters who want a spirited yet economical ride over daily usage.
