Ducati Diavel Review
Overview
Italian bike maker Ducati entered our Indian bike market with their naked sports bike Diavel. Let’s try to know about this bike in detail.
Design and Style
Ducati Diavel is a masculine bike which carries tremendous visual bulk. The bike has a semi integrated cowl and visor for its twin circular headlight. The clear lens indicators are integrated in its front cowl. The handlebar just above the headlight looks naked with chrome finished rear view mirrors mounted on it. The front fender is short and aggressively designed with side extensions along its beefy black colored front forks. From the front, you can also notice huge radiators and engine cowl of this bike. Diavel has a semi black colored engine fairing which merges nicely into its fatty fuel tank. This tank sports dynamic lines on it while structural design of pipes just below this tank adds sporty character to this bike.
Ducati has used high level of carbon fiber in this bike which contributes to its light weight and attractive looks. The bike has unique set of multi spoke alloy wheels which makes this bike charming. The twin titanium pipes of this bike come out of its engine and get aligned on each other in the form of two fatty silencers. The rear styling of this bike truly differentiates this bike from others. The step up rear seat ends way before its rear macho tyre which gives it a naked look. Diavel has twin strips for its LED tail light and integrated side indicators under its rear seat. There is no rear fender in this bike and instead Ducati has opted for unique way of placing its number plate. It gets mounts on the rear hub while it’s also electrically attached to the tail light and stays illuminated.
Instrument Console
Ducati Diavel has a split-level fully digitized instrument console. The bike uses LCD for its digital speedometer, tachometer, clock, odometer and fuel gauge. There is a series of LED indicators on the top of this LCD which provides essential information to the rider. The bike also gets a TFT display on its fuel tank which informs about the riding mode, gear selection, DTC setting etc.
Engine and Gearbox
Ducati has powered Diavel by L-twin cylinder, liquid cooled 1200cc engine. This 8 valve engine churns out a maximum power output of 159.5 bhp at 9250 rpm while its maximum torque output of 130.5 nm arrives at 8000 rpm. This fuel injected engine is served with a six-speed manual gearbox with one gear down and five gears up-shift pattern.
Acceleration and Performance
Ducati Diavel only weighs around 239kgs (kerb weight) and as a result of which it has an incredible power to weight ratio. Ducati claims this bike to reach 0-100 km/hr in less than 2.5 seconds although in real conditions, it takes around 4 seconds to do so. The bike uses a slipper clutch which feels quite light and responsive. This engine can easily cross the speed of 250 km/hr and you can use this engine as per your need as it’s available with three driving modes. The bike features DTC (Ducati Traction Control) which helps while touring at high speeds. One of the driving modes is Urban where engine delivers only 100 bhp which makes it safe and easy to drive in city traffic. The throttle reaction of this bike is magnificent which keeps on improving as you speed up. The gearbox of this bike adjusts itself accordingly and gives you smooth transitions. It’s a very refined engine which makes less noise at high speeds and stays vibration less when rev hard.
Mileage
Ducati Diavel is expected to return a fuel efficiency of around 10-12km/ltr in real conditions. These figures may vary depending up on the driving mode.
Comfort While Driving
Ducati Diavel has smart set of controls which are easy to operate and gives you premium feel. It has an electronic key which automatically enables the system of bike while the key is in the pocket of the rider. The light aluminium handle bar offers great control over this bike and provides you a firm palm grip. The rear set foot-pegs and low positioned seat gives you an aerodynamic position to ride this bike while its rear rider gets foldable foot-pegs and retractable grab rail which comes out of the rear seat.
Storage Space and Safety Features
There is no storage space in Ducati Diavel but it has some vital safety features like front and rear brake callipers, powerful twin headlight and pass button.
Suspension and Brakes
Ducati Diavel has fully adjustable 50mm front telescopic forks while it has aluminium swing arm with fully adjustable Sachs monoshock at the back. Its braking system consists of twin front disc brakes of 320mm and single rear disc brake of 265mm. This bike is equipped with ABS for further precise braking.
Ride and Handling
This light machine offers brilliant ride and handling. Ducati Diavel feels quite light in terms of handling on highways. The bike steers properly and allows you to change lanes frequently at high speeds. The suspension system holds this bike really well around corners and it always feels under control thanks to its Pirelli tyres which are designed to provide maximum grip at high speeds. It has a wheelbase of 1590 mm which maintains the stability of this bike at slow speeds. It has a low ground clearance of 130 mm which improves the aerodynamics of this bike. There is no body roll in this bike and it feels quite nimble in city traffic. It’s a racing machine and hence it becomes essential to stop this bike precisely. Its disc brakes offer accurate braking while in-built ABS allows this bike to remain calm at the time of sudden braking.
Verdict & Ex-showroom Price
The pricing of Diavel ranges from INR 13.82-37.20 (ex-showroom, Delhi (approx., may vary)). This bike is a premium naked bike which offers brilliant performance, ride and handling. It offers exclusive features and at this price; only exclusive buyers can think of buying it.
