Expert opinion and recommendation
The Pulsar 180F is a great way to keep the unique cubic capacity alive, something that Bajaj started. A premium touch just before its life-cycle ends in the next two years is a fitting homage to a category and a package that is good, but not great enough to win the enthusiast back.
Recent news and announcements
Bajaj Auto has taken off the Pulsar 180F semi-faired bike from its official India website. This could be an indication that the motorcycle has been discontinued, which has also been affirmed by some of our dealer sources. However, we are yet to get an official confirmation from the company. The fact that Bajaj recently brought back the naked Pulsar 180 backs our speculation of discontinuation of its semi-faired F version.
Bajaj Auto has discontinued the Pulsar 180 in India, with the model being removed from the companys official website. This decision is believed to be driven by low demand for the model. The Pulsar 180, which was reintroduced in 2021 as a BS6 model, was known for its 178cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine producing 17 hp and 14.2 Nm of torque. I think this move might be a strategic shift to focus on more popular models in the lineup.
The Bajaj Pulsar 180F, which was launched in April 2021 as a BS6 compliant model, has also been discontinued. Priced at Rs. 1.08 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, the 180F featured a semi-fairing design inspired by the Pulsar 220F and included minor mechanical updates like a bigger catalytic converter and fuel injection. I believe the design cues from the 220F were a great addition, but perhaps the market wasnt as receptive as expected.
In 2019, Bajaj Auto replaced the standard Pulsar 180 with the Pulsar 180F, which used the same underpinnings but added a semi-fairing from the Pulsar 220F. The Pulsar 180F was priced at Rs. 86,490 ex-showroom Mumbai and was seen as an upgrade to the naked version. I think this move was a good attempt to refresh the model, but it seems it didnt quite meet the companys expectations.
Bajaj Auto had introduced the Pulsar 180F with minor mechanical changes to meet BS6 norms, such as a bigger catalytic converter and the inclusion of fuel injection. Despite these updates, the performance figures remained unchanged. The bike was available in two colors: Laser Black and Nuclear Blue. I think these updates were necessary but might not have been enough to keep the model competitive.
Pricing details and changes
The 2020 Bajaj Pulsar 180F price was Rs 1.15 lakh before being discontinued in India. Available in three color variants Black-Red, Black-Silver and Neon Orange.
