Overview

Macho, Muscular are the sort of adjectives that come into your mind and this is exactly what Yamaha had in mind when they were styling this one. The bike gets its looks from the global FZ series known for awesome looks and tremendous power. Riding the success of FZ16 Yamaha India has now come up with a fresh & stylized variant of FZ16 which has been christened FZ-S.

Yamaha India is also planning launch another variant of FZ16 after the success of FZ-S. Now it seems they are planning to launch half fairing version of the Yamaha FZ16, which is expcted be called Yamaha Fazer 150.

Standing head and shoulders above the bikes in 150cc segment, FZ 16 has revolutionized the biking scene in India in a short span of its launch. It has bagged the prestigious Bike of the Year Award from UTVi / Autocar, Zigwheels and Business Standard Motoring and Viewers Choice award at UTVi & Autocar India Awards 2009.

Following changes and additions have been made in New FZ-S:

Mr. Sanjay Tripathi, Division Head Product Planning & Brand Management, India Yamaha Motor said, “Racing kit parts are developed using valuable experience gained from Moto GP & World Superbike racing and Yamaha wants to provide its customers in India with the same thrill and feeling of racing instinct. Also with the launch of these kit parts we want to encourage safe racing culture in India."

Design

The stylish yet innovative FZ16 has macho and muscular looks redefining the 150cc bikes segment. It keeps it simple, with street-tough naked styling and super-civilized power delivery and a specially designed riding position that gives riders extra confidence at lower speeds. Each and every part of FZ16 has been designed with a lot of detailed attention and careful thought. This ultimate degree of perfection means even the slightest feature has not been overlooked. Only Yamaha ensures this kind of craftsmanship.

The rider and the machine share a feeling of oneness, and from different angles the impression is different. This is particularly because the finest components have been used in its precise manufacturing. The FZ16 possesses both a rough and brutish expression as well as a certain subtlety. This high quality masterpiece will without doubt become a rage for the next generation.

Everything about this bike is big, the wide tyres, the huge tank, the beefy forks. Viewed side on it looks like a well built athelete on the start line flexing its muscles, waiting to smash all the records. FZ16 is an urban-cool motorcycle built for great performance and easy-living functionality, because that’s the whole idea of a bike like this. It has got heart-pumping knockout performance and it’s got serious attitude on top of that, a lean and mean look that’s all about raw power.

Engine & Features

FZ16 is powered by a 153cc, air cooled, 4 stroke, SOHC engine which generates maximum power of 14 Bhp @ 7500 rpm with maximum torque of 13.6 Nm @ 6000 rpm. The 153cc engine of this bike is designed for the urban commute. The broad tyres, low center of gravity and high torque at low rpm makes it a breeze to drive in city traffic.

The bike covers the world standard 0-60 kmph sprint in just 5.5 seconds. The mid range thrust and the highly tuned throttle response are designed to give you the feel of a ultra-powerful bike in the urban ride. The meters on the FZ16 are installed in a Full Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The speedometer, tachometer, trip meter, fuel gauge and other indicators are set in optimum position to keep the field of vision clear. Also, the engine starting signal is an example of the spirit of innovation.

The steel fuel tank with a plastic resin outer cover takes advantage of the freedom of shaping that plastic provides, giving the tank cover a powerful shape with modulations suggestive of the muscular body of an athlete. To give a sense of volume to the machine, an external diameter of 35mm is adopted in a two-layer type exhaust to minimize the effect of heat on the pipe.

The layout features a large-volume primary character on the underside of the crankcase. The muffler is an irregular shaped tapered type mid-ship muffler. A Monocross rear suspension unit provides 120 mm of wheel travel, while optimized oil and damping valve specs help ensure agile running performance and handling. It inhibits bottoming while riding with a tandem passenger as well as providing a very comfortable ride.

The petrol tank, silensor, the yellow-gold plated rear shock absorber and fat tyres give enough clues to the true strength of the Yamaha FZ16 motorcycle - torque that is a bit higher than the 160 Apache RTR and tuned for acceleration and mid-range than outright top speed.

FZ16 gets its DNA from global FZ series of Yamaha motorcycles. Fat tyre at the rear, beefy tank, beefy front fork compliment the FZ16’s muscular character, which has become a huge hit among the young crowd in India.

Ok so here i was deciding which bike to buy...as soon i opened dis page and read i knew this was the bike ..many guys around here are confused which bike to buy pulsar 150-180 karizma, apache 160, hunk or the fz-16.
<P>Let me tell you if you have read a few reviews abt dis bike from fz owners dey must have all said the same thing that the bike is gud apart from the seat, the headlight, the tachometer....
<P>Well dese thing did bother me when i decided to buy it but we all know how common is the pulsar.. everyone has it..and karizma... ppl start comparin this bike to karizma and blab that karizma can reach greater speeds karizma dis karizma dat..well we all know karizma is a 220cc bike so just by comparing it wid da lil monster shows its a born competitor..n yeah all of em are so jealous u can c it on their face..
<P>Fz 16 has one of D best pick ups i have ever seen... and the control what can if say, if you know how to ride a bike you can do just about anything with this bike.. still the rear breaking isnt that good...
<P>N just the way ppl check out your bike.. ah makes you feel like a celebrity..just c how da 160+ cc bike owners compare their bike wid da Fz .. Dis is da best choice if you js love biking..i wanted to write so much about dis beauty but no one has the time to read all crap :) ..<BR>also dont let da fz-s fool u it has crap colors iv ever seen&nbsp;&nbsp;and when decidin on which color for fz-16 which is da last hurdle..<BR>I went for red.. the orange luks gud but dull..the black well every1 says black n i almost had black but remember girls love red :p ..ny ways whichever color u go for u can change it for around 2000+ so Go For ur Fz. cheers</P>

Heeeeyyy Everybody.. Dino here. Jus want to say u something. Dis is for everybody who owns dis bike or wishes to buy one. go for this bike after a lot of thinking.

A Major Drawback of this bike i came to know Yesterday when i went to look for a bike for my frnd is that THIS BIKE HAS GOT A CARBON FIBER FUEL TANK. I think this is sufficient for all of you to think twice about this bike.

If u still doubt about this. jus do one thing to test it. jus try to hit on your FZ fuel tank and then hit on some other bike may be pulsar.

u will get to know the difference urself. so frnz be sure and safe. coz in case of an accident the fuel tank is going to be all over u.

Hi, i one of the guys who bought the FZ when launched paying 75000/- on road, the bike looks good, but there are lot of drawback, the bike does not have the power that people expect from its looks,Suzuki FIERO is much much better with its power.

Bad rear brakes, if you are trying to stop with only rear beaks, you will be surprised how bad it is, the mileage is around 35-40, seating comforts is not good for long drives.

Over all a good looking bike, but needs to improve on power , mileage and breaking

I am riding this bike from 3-4 months and I have come to the following conclusion.

    1. Look of this bike is really cool except the front naked headlight(dont go with the body).

    2. Mileage I have not exactly calculated but I guess it around 35-40km.

    3. Riding the bike on plain road is very comfortable and run smoothly. But if u planning to drive the bike on uneven or mudy road with lots of ups and downs (in hindi we call it kacha road)then it will kick your butt.

    4. The rear shocker give u shocks in uneven road.

    5. The seat is hard in compared to other bikes due to which its not good for long drives.(your butt will feel the pain )

    6. One more thing the horn which come with he bike really dont go with the muscular body. It sound like scooter horn.LOLzz

Since I had bought the bike few months back I hope yahama has made some changes to bike after the user review.

But still above all these negative points its really a cool bike and trust me it worth the buy. Its quite eye catching and look really very different from other. I recommend the black and grey one.

    HAPPY RIDING!!!!!!!!!!!

i really like it's look. I wanna know what is the exact price of FZ 16 after you’ve paid all taxes? Here in Sri Lanka it’s 1950USD. But I feel it’s a heavy price to pay for riding this devil. Isn’t it? So do send me the exact cost you’ve spent for it when you can park it at your own home.
