Hyundai Santro Xing (Diesel)
Hyundai Variant
General information and overview
The Hyundai Santro Xing is a compact car that was popular in India for its reliability, ease of driving, and feature set. Powered by a 1086 cc engine, it produces 62-62.1 bhp and 96.1 Nm of torque. Available in both manual and automatic transmissions, it also offered options for CNG and LPG fuels. The car features central locking, air conditioning, keyless entry, and a height-adjustable driver seat. The interior is praised for its comfort and the ACs performance, especially in hot conditions. However, the rear suspension and high-speed stability have been areas of concern for some users. Overall, the Santro Xing is known for its durability, with many owners reporting low maintenance costs and long-term reliability.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Hyundai Santro Xing, although discontinued, remains a notable option for those seeking a reliable and economical vehicle in the Indian market. From my perspective, this car excels in its ease of handling and driving comfort, making it an excellent choice for city commuting. The power steering and smooth gearbox contribute to a pleasant driving experience. However, it falls short in terms of fuel efficiency compared to some of its competitors, and the rear suspension could be improved for better handling on uneven roads. Overall, it is a good value for the money, especially considering its durability and low maintenance costs, but it may not be the best in its class for mileage or high-speed stability.
Recent news and announcements
The Hyundai Santro Xing never actually had a diesel variant available in the Indian market. The vehicle was offered in petrol, CNG, and LPG options, but a diesel engine was not part of the lineup. This might have been due to the focus on more fuel-efficient and cost-effective options for the target market. I think this decision was wise given the market trends at the time.
Despite the absence of a diesel variant, the Santro Xing was popular for its fuel efficiency in its available fuel types. The manual petrol variant offered a mileage of 17.92 kmpl, while the CNG variant provided 17.9 km/kg. This made it a viable option for those looking for economical transportation. I believe the lack of a diesel option didnt significantly impact its popularity.
Hyundai India had considered various engine options for the Santro Xing, but the diesel engine was not pursued. Instead, they focused on enhancing the performance and efficiency of the existing petrol and CNG engines. This strategy helped in maintaining a competitive edge in the compact car segment. I think this was a strategic move to keep costs and complexity in check.
The Santro Xings design and features were well-received, even without a diesel option. It included amenities like central locking, air conditioner, and keyless entry, making it a comfortable and convenient choice for many buyers. The absence of a diesel variant did not seem to deter customers from opting for this model. I believe the overall package was appealing enough to compensate for the lack of a diesel engine.
There were no official statements or rumors from Hyundai about plans to introduce a diesel variant of the Santro Xing during its production run. The company seemed content with the existing engine options and focused on other aspects like safety and comfort features. I think this was a clear indication of their market strategy and customer feedback.
Pricing details and changes
The prices for the Hyundai Santro Xing, although it is no longer in production, can give us an idea of its value. Ex-showroom prices for the Santro Xing ranged from approximately Rs. 2.98 lakh for the base model to Rs. 4.50 lakh for the top variants. On-road prices would have been slightly higher, considering taxes and other costs, likely ranging from Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 5.5 lakh. These prices reflect the cars positioning as an affordable and feature-packed option in the compact car segment. However, since the car is discontinued, any current pricing would be for used models, which can vary widely based on condition, mileage, and location.
Fuel efficiency information
When it comes to mileage, the Hyundai Santro Xing offers decent but not outstanding figures. The manual petrol variant provides around 17.92 kmpl, while the automatic petrol variant gives about 17.8 kmpl. For those opting for alternative fuels, the manual CNG variant offers 17.9 kmkg, and the manual LPG variant gives 17.8 kmkg. In real-world conditions, users have reported mileage ranging from 15-18 kmpl in the city and up to 21 kmpl on highways. This makes it a reasonable choice for daily commuting, though not the most fuel-efficient option available.
