Datsun GO Diesel
General information and overview
The Datsun GO is a compact hatchback that has undergone significant improvements to enhance its appeal in the Indian market. Powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine producing 67-76.43 bhp depending on the transmission, the GO offers a peppy performance suitable for city driving. The car features a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED DRLs, and keyless entry, making it well-equipped for its segment. Safety features include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors as standard. The GO also boasts a spacious 265-liter boot and improved ground clearance of 180mm, thanks to larger 14-inch wheels. While it may not excel in high-speed performance, the Datsun GO is a practical and feature-rich option for those looking for a reliable city car.
Expert opinion and recommendation
The Datsun GO does not come in a diesel variant, which is a significant consideration for many buyers in India who prioritize fuel efficiency and lower running costs. However, the petrol version has seen several improvements, particularly in safety and features. The updated model now meets upcoming crash test norms, includes dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors as standard. While the added weight has slightly impacted driveability, especially under full load, the car remains a viable option for city commuting. The CVT transmission is smooth and well-tuned, making daily drives effortless. However, the lack of a diesel option might be a deal-breaker for some, especially those who cover long distances regularly.
Recent news and announcements
There has been no official announcement from Datsun regarding the launch of the Datsun GO Diesel in India, despite speculation and rumors. The diesel version is expected to be powered by a 1461cc engine, producing 64 Bhp and 160 Nm of torque, and would be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This would make it a competitive option in the entry-level hatchback segment. I think this could be a game-changer if priced correctly.
The speculated Datsun GO Diesel is expected to have a ground clearance of 170 mm and a fuel tank capacity of 35 litres. It would also feature a spacious interior and a boot space of 265 litres, making it a practical choice for daily use. The cars dimensions include a length of 3785 mm, width of 1635 mm, and height of 1485 mm. I believe these specs make it a solid contender in its class.
If launched, the Datsun GO Diesel would likely be priced around Rs 4,50,000, making it one of the most affordable diesel hatchbacks in the market. This pricing strategy could help Datsun attract more buyers who are looking for a budget-friendly yet powerful diesel option. I think this pricing could be very appealing to budget-conscious buyers.
The Datsun GO Diesel, if it materializes, would come with disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the rear, ensuring a strong and effective braking system. Additionally, it would feature R13 type tyres for better road grip. Safety features, however, are expected to be minimal, with only seat belts for front and rear passengers. I believe more emphasis on safety features would be beneficial.
The Datsun GO Diesel is rumored to be available in four striking colors: Black, Red, Blue, and Silver. This color palette is expected to appeal to a wide range of buyers looking for a stylish and affordable hatchback. I think these colors will help the car stand out in the market.
Pricing details and changes
The Datsun GO is priced competitively in the Indian market, starting from around Rs. 3.75 lakh for the base manual variant and going up to Rs. 6.51 lakh for the top-end CVT variant, ex-showroom. On-road prices vary by state due to different tax structures but generally range from Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 7.5 lakh. This pricing makes the Datsun GO an attractive option in the entry-level hatchback segment, offering a good balance of features, space, and performance at an affordable price. However, the absence of a diesel variant might affect its appeal to some buyers who are sensitive to fuel costs.
Fuel efficiency information
The Datsun GO offers a claimed mileage of 19.02 to 20.63 kmpl, depending on the transmission and variant. In real-world conditions, users have reported mileage ranging from 18 to 20 kmpl, which is respectable for a petrol-powered car in its class. While it may not be the most fuel-efficient option, especially compared to diesel variants of other cars, the GOs mileage is still commendable and should not be a major concern for city drivers.
