Tork Kratos

About
The Tork Kratos R is an electric motorcycle that stands out with its sharp and geometric design, featuring an all-LED headlamp unit and a matte finish body. It is powered by a 9kW axial flux motor, producing 38Nm of torque, and is supported by a 4kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The bike has a split trellis frame with the battery pack as a stressed member and features telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear, providing a comfortable ride quality. It includes useful features like a reverse mode and front storage space with a USB charging port. However, it lacks ABS and fast charging capabilities, and minor niggles such as fragile indicators and low ground clearance need to be addressed. Overall, the Kratos R has the potential to be a strong contender in the electric motorcycle segment once Tork Motors resolves the current technical and quality issues.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Tork Kratos R is a promising yet imperfect entry into the Indian electric motorcycle market. While it boasts a sharp and modern design that turns heads, the overall fit and finish still need significant improvement. The bikes performance is impressive, with a 9kW axial flux motor delivering 38Nm of torque and a top speed of 105 kmh, making it comparable to a sporty 160cc bike. However, the motor and battery overheating issues, particularly on hilly terrain, are a major concern. The ride quality is comfortable, and the chassis setup inspires confidence, but the braking system needs refinement. Despite these issues, Tork Motors has shown a willingness to address these problems, which is a positive sign. For now, its a fun-to-ride city bike, but potential buyers should wait until the company resolves the outstanding issues before making a purchase.
Price
The Tork Kratos R is priced at 2,07,499 ex-showroom in India. However, with the FAME II subsidy of 60,000 and the Maharashtra state subsidy of 10,000, the effective ex-showroom price drops to 1,37,499. Adding RSA and other charges of 4,750 and insurance costs of 10,707, the on-road price comes to around 1,52,956. Given the features, performance, and range offered, the price is justifiable, especially considering the government subsidies. However, the value proposition would be stronger if Tork Motors can resolve the current technical issues and improve the overall quality.
Latest Updates
Thursday, 15 August 2024 12:49 PM Tork Motors is facing significant financial troubles, with employees not receiving salaries for the past seven months and the company terminating roles to align with its strategic goals. Dealers have filed a complaint due to the lack of dispatches since December 2023. I think this is a worrying sign for the future of Tork Motors and its customers.
Wednesday, 14 August 2024 05:59 AM Bharat Forge, the major investor in Tork Motors, has written off its investment in the company due to reduced profitability following the expiry of the FAME-II subsidy. This move indicates a likely wind-up of Tork Motors operations. Its a shame, as the Kratos had some promising features.
Friday, 15 March 2024 11:32 PM Tork Kratos R has received a significant price cut of Rs 37,500, making it more affordable than the Revolt RV400, but this offer is only valid until March 31, 2024. This discount could be a last-ditch effort to boost sales before any potential shutdown.
Tuesday, 20 February 2024 06:59 PM Tork Motors has introduced a new Urban trim for the Kratos R, focusing on essential features for city commuting while cutting down on unnecessary extras. This move aims to make the bike more appealing to urban riders. I believe this trim could be a smart move to attract more buyers.
Thursday, 25 January 2024 09:55 AM The Tork Kratos R has been updated with a new Eco+ mode, which increases the claimed range to 150 km. This update is a welcome addition for those looking for better efficiency. It shows Tork is still innovating despite the challenges.
Wednesday, 06 September 2023 12:26 AM The 2024 Tork Kratos X boasts a sleek modern design with a robust build, featuring a full LED headlamp, integrated turn signals, and a futuristic digital dashboard. It is powered by a 7.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, offering a range of up to 150 km on a single charge. I think the design and specs make it a compelling option in the electric motorcycle segment.
Friday, 11 August 2023 12:41 AM Tork Kratos deliveries have commenced in India after a long wait, marking a significant milestone for the company. However, the ongoing issues with service and spare parts availability remain a concern for customers.
Monday, 15 August 2022 05:41 PM Tork Motors had reduced the booking amount for the Kratos to just Rs 75 to commemorate Indias 75th Independence Day, making it more accessible to potential buyers. This was a clever marketing move to generate interest.
Friday, 15 July 2022 07:37 AM The Tork Kratos R was launched in 2022 with a 4 kWh battery and a 9 kW axial flux electric motor, offering a claimed range of 180 km and a top speed of 105 km/h. It was positioned to compete with the 125 cc commuter motorcycle segment. I think it was an ambitious start, but the current situation is quite different.
Monday, 20 June 2022 02:10 PM The Tork Kratos R witnessed its first price hike, affecting both variants of the EV. This increase was likely due to rising production costs and changes in market conditions. Its always tough when prices go up, but sometimes its necessary for the companys survival.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 08:45 AM The Tork Kratos R offers a claimed real-world range of 120 km on a full charge, which is quite decent for an electric motorcycle. The bike comes with three riding modes Eco, City, and Sport. In Eco mode, the range extends to 120 km with a maximum speed of 50 kmh, while in City mode, it reduces to 100 km with a maximum speed of 70 kmh. In Sport mode, the range drops to 70 km with a top speed of 105 kmh. The actual range may vary based on riding conditions, but the bikes range predictions are fairly accurate. The lack of fast charging capabilities, however, limits the bikes usability for long rides, making it more suitable for city commuting. Tork Kratos Review

Detailed Review by Maxabout Team

Overview

Tork Motors is not a new name in the electric vehicle industry. It was one of the first organisations to recognise and capitalise on the green mobility idea. It created some e-bikes that won a race on the Isle of Man. It then produced more, which were not used on racetracks. Tork Motors has continued to innovate and manufacture green automobiles. Its most ambitious project was the T6X, an electric motorcycle that was supposed to be released years ago but development took time and then the pandemic, and now after a long wait a production-ready model with a new moniker, Tork Kratos is out there.

Tork Kratos Design and Style

To begin with, Tork Kratos appears to be a standard motorcycle. It does not appear little or slender, nor does it have design characteristics that cry "Imported from China, built in India." Kratos appears to be a motorbike in the 150cc-160cc category and appears to be aggressive, which is sure to attract a lot of young people. The fascia, with its sleek headlight unit, adds a cool touch. Tork Kratos gets a sleek and flowing crease from the side, which adds considerable ferocity. The tail side is also well-balanced and finished and the e-bike has some heft and mass throughout.

Tork has done a good job with the overall fit and quality. It's not as excellent as bikes from massive brands, but for a little company that has yet to prove itself, it's a promising start. Plastics are of acceptable quality, the use of black plastic panels on the fuel tank and the roughness of the tail section made it look rather bad. However, the corporation has stated that it would enhance this in the future. The best thing about the Kratos' graphics is that, even with a massive battery pack, the bike doesn't look out of place, which we believe represents their careful thought process.

Tork Kratos Engine and Gearbox

There are two models available: the Kratos and the Kratos R. Tork tuned the standard model to produce 7.5 kW (10.05 HP) of peak power and 28 Nm of maximum torque. The R model produces 9 kW (12.06 HP) and 38 Nm of peak torque. Both models have an Axial Flux motor and a 4kWH, IP67-certified lithium-ion battery pack. Tork has coupled the Kratos engine with a single-speed, mid-drive electric motor with single-stage gear reduction and chain drive gearbox.

Tork Kratos Suspension, Brakes and Tyres

Tork has suspended the new Kratos on a Trellis frame and the Hydraulic Telescopic handles the suspension duties at the front and the Mono Shock Hydraulic at the rear. Kratos features the Disc Brakes for both front and rear end which are aided by the ABS and Regenerative Braking system. The new Tork Kratos comes with 17-inch alloy wheels and the tubeless tyre sections of 90/80-17 at the front and 120/80-17 at the rear.

Instrument Console of Tork Kratos

2024 Tork Kratos has a full digital TFT instrument cluster. It does not have a touchscreen, but it is compatible with smartphones via a dedicated app. You can use the app to access functions such as anti-theft, crash alert, Safe Home, hazard lights, and guide-me-home lights. The Tork Kratos comes with four riding modes: Eco, City, Sports, and Reverse. The R model also includes a more sporty Track Mode, which is Bluetooth enabled. For added convenience, both the regular and R variants include a reverse mode. If the e-bike is going to be left unused for a lengthy period, both models have a Vacation Mode.

Key Features of Tork Kratos

In terms of features, Tork has equipped the Kratos with many useful features. One of the most important ones is the front storage box, 4 riding modes Eco, City, Sports and Reverse, an anti-theft system, crash alert, guide-me-home lights, OTA updates, regenerative braking, USB charging, and digital instrument console with connectivity features. Tork also has a dedicated mobile app that allows features like charging status, geo-fencing, ride telemetry and even a charging station location. Some comfort features of the Tork Kratos include Electric Start, Pillion Grabrail, Pillion Footrest, Step-up Seat/Split Seat, Riding Modes and USB Charging.

Top Speed and Range of Tork Kratos

2024 Tork Kratos has a top speed of 100 km/h and Kratos R has a top speed of 105 km/h (company-claimed). The range depends on the riding mode and is as follows - IDC Range is 180 km, Eco Mode range is 120 km, City Mode range is 100 km, Sports Mode range is 70 km. Tork Kratos can speed up from 0 to 40 km/h in 4 seconds and it takes Kratos R 3.5 seconds to do the same.

Tork Kratos Colour Options

Tork offers both the variants Kratos and Kratos R in four colour options; Blue, Red, Black and White.

Tork Kratos Competitors

Oben Rorr, Revolt RV400, Ultraviolette F77, Hero AE 47, Odysse Evoqis, Joy E-Monster, Joy Hurricane, and Revolt RV300 are some similar bikes to the new Tork Kratos in the market.

Conclusion

2024 Tork Kratos and Kratos R are well-thought-out motorcycles. Kratos looks really cool and has the design traits and feel of a regular motorcycle. They packed it with a motor and battery pack that is practical and usable. Tork Kratos gets features that work and also enhance the overall appeal of the electric motorcycle. Unlike a few other e-scooters in the market, the e-motor on the Kratos doesn’t whine much. The battery gets a decent claimed riding range, and it looks decent on the paper. However, there are a few things that Tork needs to work on: quality and reliability. The black textured plastics aren’t appreciable, and the motor goes into limp mode every time the temperature sensor gives up.

Tork's Kratos R is a solid entry in the electric motorcycle space. Standout features include multiple ride modes and mobile connectivity. The axial flux motor offers decent performance. Ride quality is firm; handling is sporty and confidence-inspiring in city traffic.
