About

General information and overview

The Suzuki Slingshot is a 124cc, air-cooled, 4-stroke single-cylinder motorcycle engineered primarily for budget-conscious commuters in India. It features a 5-speed manual transmission and a kerb weight of approximately 127 kg, which contributes to its agile handling around city streets. Designed with simplicity, it sports drum brakes on both wheels and conventional telescopic front suspension paired with a coil spring rear. The bike’s fuel tank capacity is 12 litres, allowing for decent riding range between refills. The compact dimensions—length around 2035 mm and width near 770 mm—along with a seat height of about 810 mm provide accessible ergonomics. The Slingshot delivers a maximum power output of 8.5 bhp and 10 Nm torque, adequate for navigating congested urban environments rather than high-speed cruising. While lacking modern features such as disc brakes or advanced electronics, the Slingshot emphasizes reliability, budget ownership, and outstanding fuel economy. Since production ceased in 2023, this model is now mostly sought after in the used bike market by riders looking for a practical and affordable entry-level motorcycle.

The Suzuki Slingshot is a 124cc, air-cooled, four-stroke commuter motorcycle built for efficiency and everyday usability in Indian traffic conditions. It features an SOHC single-cylinder engine producing 8.5 Bhp and 10 Nm torque, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The bike weighs around 127-129 kg, providing a nimble and light ride experience suitable for crowded city roads. The 12-liter fuel tank capacity and claimed mileage of 70 kmpl make it highly economical for daily commuting. Its drum or disc brake variants provide basic stopping power without ABS. With a seat height of 810 mm and a ground clearance of 160 mm, the Slingshot balances ride comfort with the ability to tackle Indian road irregularities. Although its design and features are fairly minimal, the bike caters to those prioritizing fuel efficiency, ease of handling, and affordability over sporty or high-tech attributes. Buyers looking for a low-maintenance, value-for-money commuter will find the Slingshot fitting those criteria well within Indian market expectations.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Suzuki Slingshot stands out as a nimble and economical 125cc commuter motorcycle designed for urban use, offering simplicity and reliable performance. Its 124cc air-cooled engine produces a modest 8.5 bhp and 10 Nm of torque, making it well-suited for city traffic where ease of maneuverability and fuel efficiency matter more than outright speed or power. The bike’s light kerb weight of around 127 kg and compact dimensions enhance handling. However, compared to modern rivals, the Slingshot’s dated drum brakes and basic suspension setup reflect its budget-focused approach rather than sporty or premium ambitions. While it does not impress in feature lists or outright performance, it does deliver on practicality, with a comfortable 810 mm saddle height and 12-litre fuel tank for decent range. The overall package is targeted at riders seeking a no-nonsense, affordable urban machine with outstanding fuel economy. Still, given the model’s discontinuation in 2023, availability and servicing could be concerns for prospective buyers today. Overall, it remains a sensible choice for daily commuting in Indian cities if you prioritize economy and ease over modern amenities or aggressive styling.

The Suzuki Slingshot offers a practical and economical option in the 125cc commuter bike segment. Its lightweight frame and manageable 124cc engine make it ideal for city commuting, delivering decent power of 8.5 Bhp and torque of 10 Nm suited for urban roads and daily errands. The comfortable riding posture, combined with good ground clearance of 160 mm, adds to its urban usability. However, the lack of modern features like ABS and a limited top speed of around 120 kmph may deter enthusiasts looking for more performance and safety tech. The bike's design is simple and functional rather than flashy, appealing to buyers prioritizing fuel efficiency and low maintenance. While its mileage is impressive on paper, real-world figures tend to vary, reflecting riding conditions and style. Overall, the Slingshot stands out chiefly for its fuel economy and reliability, though it faces stiff competition from more feature-rich bikes in the market. The discontinued status of many variants might also affect availability and service in the long term, which buyers should weigh carefully before purchasing.

Price

Pricing details and changes

In India, the Suzuki Slingshot was positioned in the entry-level commuter segment with ex-showroom prices ranging approximately from Rs 44,000 to Rs 56,000 depending on the variant and city. For example, cities like Chandigarh reported ex-showroom prices near Rs 46,000, while metro centers like Delhi saw slightly higher tags close to Rs 57,000. On-road prices (which include RTO, insurance, and other taxes) correspondingly ranged from about Rs 48,000 to Rs 59,000 across major cities. The Slingshot’s pricing reflected its budget commuter positioning, appealing to first-time riders or those seeking economical daily transport. At this price bracket, buyers received a reliable yet basic motorcycle, with limited features but excellent fuel efficiency. Today, since the Slingshot has been discontinued, new stock may be limited to old inventory or the used market; prices there vary widely based on condition and availability. Despite this, the original pricing made it a compelling offering for price-conscious buyers during its active sale period.

In India, the Suzuki Slingshot was priced ex-showroom roughly between ₹44,000 to ₹55,700 depending on the variant and features such as self-start and disc brakes. On-road pricing including taxes, insurance, and registration would typically push this figure to approximately ₹50,000 to ₹62,000 in various metros. This price point positioned it as a budget-friendly commuter bike ideal for entry-level buyers or those looking for an economical daily rider. Given the model's discontinued status, current prices may fluctuate based on dealer stock and location, potentially increasing in the used market if demand remains steady. The initial investment is modest, making it accessible for students and first-time riders. The cost-to-benefit ratio, considering its reputed mileage claimed by ARAI and low maintenance, was attractive for Indian buyers focused on practicality rather than style or advanced features.

Vehicle Overview
Suzuki SlingShot Plus is a 124 cc, single cylinder motorcycle that is good for 8.5 BHP at 7500 rpm and 10 Nm at 3500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The high amount of torque at such low rpm makes it a really good machine to ride in low and mid range. Suzuki has made it in such a way that it claims 160 mm of ground clearance and 129 kg of wet body weight, including the fuel in its 12 liters tank. Suzuki Slingshot Plus rivals Honda CB Shine, Hero Glamour and TVS Phoenix in its segment. The base variant for the motorcycle starts at INR 53,635 (ex-showroom Delhi).

1. I got this Bike on June 2012 for Rs.58,000(highend model) in Chennai. Till today I finished 6000kms on this bike..
2. Comfort is very good.
3. Good for city ride with decent mileage(50 to 55kmpl). On highways I got upto 65kmpl
4. I feel power is lesser with 129kg body weight

5. Head light focus is little dim.

6. I gave for servicing every 2months.(first 3 are free and other services are one paid and one free for two yrs)

7. Pick up is not so great.

8. Bike skids sometimes on high speed.

My Overall rating(Comfort, mileage, power, appearance, price, service) - 3.5 out of 5

I feel this bike is a good choice for the guys who wants a decent mileage, better comfort in City and towns with budget Rs.60,000. Discover 125ST new model is one more choice over Slingshot.
