Honda SP125 Review
Detailed Review by Maxabout Team
Introduction
Honda has remained the most trustworthy motorcycle brand in the Indian market. All the offerings by the brand in our country are noticed by the people for their amazing looks and the technology used in developing them. Among all its bikes is the SP125, which was offered as a replacement for the Honda CB Shine SP commuter motorcycle. The Honda SP125 gets a complete overhaul over the CS Shine SP bike. The other factor behind the introduction was to launch the BS6-compliant alternate to the CB Shine SP. To know whether the bike is worth buying or not, let’s dive into all its design, features, and specs details.
Honda SP125 Design & Style
2023 Honda SP125 boasts a fresh and enticing design and styling. The graphics used all over the body are capable of attracting the younger generation in India. The colour treatment and the tank fairing, which is not usual in bikes in this segment, make the bike look sportier. It comes with a DC LED headlight, which, according to the brand, consumes less voltage and throws enhanced illumination for making journeys more comfortable, even in dark places.
The side profile of the bike is simple yet classy, and the 3D Honda logo on the fuel tank adds to the beauty of the bike. A fibre-made saree guard is also given along with a pillion footrest. The rear profile gets sharp, fin-like graphics, and the taillight is an LED unit. In terms of body dimensions, the bike is 2020 mm in overall length, 1103 mm in overall height, and 785 mm in overall width, with a wheelbase of 1285 mm. The seat height of the Honda SP125 is 790 mm, while the kerb weight is 117 kg.
Honda SP125 Instrument Console
The Honda SP125 comes equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster that displays Real-Time Fuel-Efficiency, Average Fuel-Efficiency, Distance-to-Empty, Service Due Indicator, Gear Position Indicator, and Eco Indicator to keep you informed at all times. It also incorporates the Side Stand Indicator with Engine Cut Off, which increases rider safety by signalling when the stand is down. However, the tachometer is missing in the console but it can be overlooked since the motorcycle is mainly a city commuter.
Honda SP125 Engine & Gearbox
2023 Honda SP125 gets power from a 124cc, Single Cylinder, Air Cooled, 4-Stroke, SI Engine that uses fuel-injection technology. This engine is combined with a 5-speed gearbox and churns out 10.7 HP at 7500 rpm and 10.9 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. Honda has used the ACG starter motor that eliminates gear meshing noise and assists in starting the engine without a shock. The more refined engine makes the bike smoother that you don’t feel vibration even at 60 km/h speed.
Honda SP125 Brakes, Suspension & Tyres
As for braking duties, one variant of the new Honda SP125 comes with the front disc(240mm) and rear drum(130mm) brakes while the second one comes fitted with 130mm drum brakes on both ends. The suspension duties in the bike are handled by telescopic suspension at the front and Hydraulic suspension at the rear. The rear suspension is 5-way adjustable that assists in making your rides comfy in all types of road conditions. This stylish bike rides on sporty 5-spoke split alloy wheels that add to the road presence of the bike. These wheels are clothed in 80/100-18 M/C 47P tubeless tyres at the front and 80/100-18 M/C 54P tubeless tyres at the rear.
Honda SP125 Acceleration, Top Speed & Mileage
As far as performance is concerned, the 125cc commuter bike can accelerate from 0-60 kmph in around 7 seconds and reach a top speed of 100 km/h. New Honda SP125 comes with a fuel tank capacity of 11 litres. Fuel efficiency is the next plus point of the bike as it returns 58-60 kmpl in the real world. This new engine is fitted with advanced eSP technology that helps in boosting fuel efficiency. The SP 125's new technology is said to provide 16% greater mileage than the previous-gen model, as claimed by the brand.
Honda SP125 Variants & Colour Options
Honda has offered the new SP125 in two variants called DISC and DRUM depending on the braking system offered. There are a total of five vibrant colours in the colour scheme of the 2023 Honda SP125. These shades are named Striking Green, Imperial Red Metallic, Pearl Siren Blue, Matte Axis Grey Metallic and Athletic Blue Metallic.
Honda SP125 Ex-showroom Price & On-Road Price
At present, the ex-showroom price for the DRUM variant of Honda SP125 starts at Rs 84,204 while for the DISC variant it starts at Rs 88,204. Honda SP125 Disc's on-road price is Rs 1.02 lakh in Delhi, Rs 1.05 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 1.03 lakh in Kolkata and Rs 1.04 lakh in Chennai. The prices mentioned here are estimates and we suggest you contact your nearest Honda dealership to get an accurate on-road price quote in your city.
Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On-Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges.
The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and an Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentages of the State Registration Charges.
Honda SP125 Competitors
In the Indian two-wheeler market, the Honda Shine 125 and the Bajaj Pulsar 125 Neon are close competitors to the Honda SP125.
Verdict - Should You Buy Honda SP125 or not?
2023 Honda SP125 is a well-designed bike with a refined engine and performance. Maintenance of the bike is quite easy and it includes elements that are not overly intricate or sophisticated. Even the bike is from the brand which is famed for its dependability. Tubeless tyres, alloy wheels, and front telescopic suspension make the bike even more dependable. However, the lack of an ABS system and a broad rear tyre may not be negligible, but the motorcycle is a good commuter for daily life activities.
