USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Ducati Hyperstrada 821 is a unique and versatile motorcycle that blends the agility of a supermoto with the practicality of a tourer. I find it exceptionally fun to ride, whether navigating city traffic or carving through twisty roads. The 821cc Testastretta engine provides ample power, making it neither underpowered nor overly strung, and the ride-by-wire system with multiple riding modes adds to its versatility. However, there are some drawbacks, such as the grabby clutch in earlier models and poor low-RPM fuelling, which can be addressed with aftermarket solutions. The high seat height and lack of wind protection at high speeds are also notable, but these do not detract from its overall charm. For those seeking a bike that can handle both daily commuting and occasional long-distance rides, the Hyperstrada 821 is an excellent choice.
Price
In India, the Ducati Hyperstrada 821 is positioned as a premium motorcycle, reflecting its high-quality build and advanced features. The ex-showroom price for the Hyperstrada 821 can range from approximately 13.5 lakhs to 15 lakhs, depending on the region and any customizations. On-road prices, including taxes, registration, and insurance, can go up to around 17 lakhs to 19 lakhs. While this is certainly on the higher side, the bikes performance, comfort, and unique blend of supermoto and touring capabilities make it a worthwhile investment for serious motorcycle enthusiasts.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 11:18 AM When it comes to mileage, the Ducati Hyperstrada 821 is reasonably economical for a mid-range twin-cylinder motorcycle. You can expect an average fuel efficiency of around 40-50 mpg, which translates to about 18-22 kml in Indian conditions. This makes it a viable option for both city riding and occasional long-distance tours, though aggressive riding will naturally reduce the mileage.

Ducati Hyperstrada 821 Review

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

After Hypermotard, Ducati is planning to launch the touring version of this bike known as Hyperstrada. Let’s try to know about the exclusive features of this bike.

Design and Style

The basic design of this bike is similar to Hypermotard while the aggressiveness in the styling comes from its elder sibling, Multistrada. The face of the bike features a slim headlight which gets fitted in its edgy front cowl. The forwarded sharp side extensions of this cowl and black colored pointed front fender form the sporty nose of Hyperstrada. The tall positioned front fender of the bike starts just below its headlight and the gap between its front tyre and fender makes this bike look naked. The slight covering of its front forks gel well with the black colored 10-spoke alloy wheels of this bike which seem to be inspired from its much expensive sibling, Panigale. The long tinted visor and hand guards indicate towards the touring character of this bike. These hand-guards come integrated with LED side indicators which complements the front styling of this bike. The exposed black colored engine, steel trellis frame and up-swept muffler suits the color scheme on this bike. The sharp fuel tank comes with aerodynamic side extensions. This tank nicely merges into the long seat of Hyperstrada which sits on the top of its stretched rear cowl. The single shock absorber, naked chain and wide rear tyre adds sporty look to this bike. The bike features LED taillight and side indicators at the back.

Instrument Console

Hyperstrada comes with a fully digital dashboard with all essential indicators on the top of it. The big LCD of this dashboard displays its digital speedometer, bar style tachometer, odometer, 2-tripmeter, fuel gauge, gear position indicators, lap timer, ride mode indicator with adjustable DTC and ABS settings. The bike also comes with one 12V power outlet on each side below rider’s seat.

Engine and Gearbox

The bike shares its L-twin cylinder, liquid-cooled 821.1cc engine with its sibling, Hypermotard. This engine produces a peak power of 110 bhp at 9250 rpm. The utmost torque output of this 8 valves engine is of 89 Nm which arrives at 7750 rpm. The bike is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox with one gear down and five gears up-shift pattern.

Acceleration and Performance

It’s a trusted and tested engine which makes Hyperstrada a powerful off road, touring machine. The bike only weighs around 204kgs which helps it to achieve a class leading power to weight ratio. The single wire throttle system of this bike gives you instant throttle reaction which further gets supported by well-spaced gear ratios. The bike picks up easily in any gear and the strong low and mid-range makes it a good off roader. The bike reaches 0-100km/hr in less than 6 seconds. You can use the power of this engine in three different ways. The Sport and Touring modes gives you full power of this engine in a quick manner while its Urban riding mode only transfers 75 bhp of power and makes it safe to drive in city traffic. You can choose the riding modes through its control switch on handlebar. The bike can easily reach the speed of 180km/hr which makes it a perfect option for long trips. It’s a very refined engine which performs really well when rev hard. The bike makes minimal noise at high rpms and its early availability of torque makes it easy for this bike to climb upwards with full seating.

Mileage

You can expect a mileage of around 12-14km/ltr from this bike which may vary depending on the riding mode.

Comfort while Driving

Being a touring bike, it tends to be more comfortable than other bikes. The stretched and well-padded seat gives you optimum comfort on this bike. The bike can be easily occupied by two people and the rear grab rails also confirm that the pillion rider stays comfortable on long journeys. The well placed foot-pegs allow you to comfortably settle on this bike while your knees stick firmly around its fuel tank. The easy to use controls on its handlebar further add comfort to your driving. The up-raised compact handle bar offers you firm palm grip and stays vibration less at high speeds.

Storage Space and Safety Features

Looking at the touring nature of Hyperstrada, Ducati has added side bags to this bike which have a storage capacity of 50 litres. Apart from powerful headlight, Hyperstrada comes equipped with 8-level Ducati Traction control for your safety on road.

Suspension and Brakes

Hyperstrada features adjustable 43mm telescopic forks at its front with single sided aluminium swing arm and Sachs mono shock absorber at the back. The bike comes with twin semi-floating disc brakes of 320mm at its front with radially mounted 4-piston callipers and has a single rear disc brake of 245mm with 2-piston brake calliper. The latest Bosch ABS 9MP is a standard feature of this bike.

Ride and Handling

The high ground clearance and seating position of this bike gives you clear vision of roads and makes it quite easy for you to turn this bike easily around corners. The light handling of this bike is best experienced when you take it off road where its powerful suspension system and light weight comes in to play. It has a wheelbase of 1490mm which makes it stable on highways despite its high ground clearance. The DTC, broad tyres and braking system gives you complete control over this bike and makes it a good on as well as off road bike.

Tyre Size, Shades and Variants

The bike features 17 inches alloy wheels. The only variant of Hyperstrada will be available in two different shades.

Verdict

It will be an entry level touring bike from Ducati which will attract those buyers who look for something different than sports bikes and find Multistrada to be a bit expensive. It’s a very practical bike which offers superb ride and handling with impressive power packed performance. With reasonable price tag, we think it will be a complete value for money bike.
