About
The Aprilia SR 160 Race is a sporty scooter that embodies the Italian brands commitment to performance and style. Powered by a 160.03cc single-cylinder engine, it produces 10.8bhp and 11.6Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful scooters in its segment. The scooter features a stiff suspension setup and 14-inch wheels with 120-section rubber, which contribute to its agile handling and stability. The Race edition comes with a distinctive RS-GP 20 inspired livery, a re-tuned CVT with different roller bearings, and Ceat tyres, although the MRF tyres on the standard model are generally preferred for their grip. The SR 160 Race also boasts solid braking performance with a 220mm front disc and 140mm rear drum brake, along with single-channel ABS. While it lacks some practical features, its dynamic design, comfortable seating, and thrilling ride make it a compelling choice for performance enthusiasts in India.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Aprilia SR 160 Race is a scooter that stands out for its exceptional handling and performance, making it a favorite among enthusiasts. Despite the BS6 upgrades that slightly toned down the performance compared to its BS4 counterpart, it still delivers a thrilling ride. The scooters linear power delivery, refined engine, and agile handling make it a joy to ride, especially on winding roads. However, the lack of practical features such as a larger under-seat storage, LED headlamp, and external fuel filling cap might be a letdown for some. The Race edition, with its distinctive RS-GP 20 inspired livery and tweaked gearbox, offers a slightly quicker acceleration up to 60kmph, but the difference is marginal. Overall, its a great choice for those prioritizing performance and style, but potential buyers should weigh these aspects against their specific needs.
Price
The Aprilia SR 160 Race is priced around Rs 1.13 lakh ex-showroom in India, which is about Rs 10,000 more than the standard SR 160. On-road prices can vary depending on the state and local taxes, but you can expect to pay around Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.30 lakh. While this is on the higher side compared to some of its competitors, the unique styling elements, improved performance, and the brands reputation for quality justify the premium. However, buyers on a budget might find it challenging to justify the cost, especially when other scooters like the TVS Ntorq 125 Race XP offer similar performance at a lower price point.
Aprilia SR 160 Race on road price is Rs 1.64 lakh in Delhi, Rs 1.70 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 1.66 lakh in Kolkata, and Rs 1.69 lakh in Chennai. The prices mentioned here are approximate and we suggest you contact your nearest Aprilia dealership to get the exact on-road price quote in your city.
Latest Updates
Monday, 06 December 2021 03:29 AM
The Aprilia SR 160 Race variant comes with a slightly different CVT transmission tuning for better bottom-end performance, although the difference is subtle. The scooter also features 14-inch alloy wheels, tubeless tires, and a single-channel ABS braking system. The ergonomic updates include a reworked seat with a split pattern design, which feels more supportive. I believe these tweaks enhance the overall riding experience but could benefit from additional features like Bluetooth connectivity.

The 2022 Aprilia SR 160 Race has been launched in India with a refreshed design and new features. The scooter now boasts a sharper and sportier front apron, a new LED headlight, and a fully-digital instrument cluster. The SR 160 Race also features a redesigned taillight and exclusive colors inspired by Moto GP bikes. I think these updates make the SR 160 look more appealing and modern.

The updated Aprilia SR 160 has seen a significant price hike of about Rs 12,000 over the previous model, placing it closer to the price range of the Yamaha Aerox 155 and Aprilias own SXR 160. This pricing makes the SR 160 a tough sell, despite its sporty design and good performance. I think Aprilia needs to balance the pricing to make it more competitive in the market.
Saturday, 13 November 2021 06:31 AM
The 2022 Aprilia SR 160 continues to use the same 160.03cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine, producing 10.86bhp at 7,600rpm and 11.6Nm at 6,000rpm. Despite no mechanical changes, the scooters performance remains smooth and responsive, especially in city riding conditions. However, its top speed and acceleration are now matched by newer competitors like the Yamaha Aerox 155. I think Aprilia needs to consider boosting the power and torque in future updates to stay competitive.

Aprilia has started pre-bookings for the 2022 SR 160 in India, with the launch scheduled for later in the month. The new model retains its mechanical specifications but gets significant styling and feature upgrades, including a new front apron and a digital instrument cluster. The price has been set between Rs 1.23 lakh to Rs 1.3 lakh, depending on the variant. I believe the new design will attract more buyers, especially the younger demographic.
Mileage
Monday, 18 November 2024 04:10 PM
The mileage of the Aprilia SR 160 Race is generally reported to be around 35-40 kmpl, which is decent but not exceptional. This figure can vary based on riding conditions, with city rides typically yielding lower mileage compared to highway cruising. The scooters powerful engine and sporty nature mean it is not optimized for fuel efficiency, but it still manages to provide a respectable mileage that should satisfy most users. For those who prioritize performance over fuel economy, the SR 160 Race is a good choice, but for commuters looking for the best fuel efficiency, other options might be more appealing. Ex Showroom Price vs On Road Price | Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On-Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentage for the State Registration Charges. |
