As of 2021, Yamaha's venerable middleweight supersport, the YZF-R6, won't be offered as a road-legal option.

Friday, 29 September 2023 01:40 AM

Yamaha has announced that its iconic middleweight supersport, the YZF-R6, will no longer be available as a road-legal offering from 2021. In the announcement, Yamaha said, “With deep consideration of evolving global market trends and regulations that limit production volumes on certain models, the following Yamaha models will be discontinued after model year 2020: YZF-R6, VMAX, WR250R and SMAX”.

Thursday, 17 October 2024 04:11 PM Yamaha has introduced the YZF-R9 as a spiritual successor to the YZF-R6, filling the gap between the YZF-R7 and YZF-R1. The R9 features a CP3 engine, which offers a different riding experience with more torque but less top-end power compared to the R6. I believe the R9 will appeal to riders looking for a more user-friendly supersport bike.
Tuesday, 15 October 2024 04:31 PM The Yamaha YZF-R6 is set to make a comeback in 2025, but this time it will be focused more on track use rather than as a streetbike. This new version is expected to maintain the R6s reputation for performance and durability. I think this move will be a hit with track enthusiasts who have been missing the R6.
Wednesday, 18 November 2020 03:43 AM The original Yamaha YZF-R6 was discontinued as a streetbike after the 2020 model year, with the last updates including improved aerodynamics, suspension, and braking components in 2017. Despite its discontinuation, the R6 remains popular for its reliability and performance. I think the R6s legacy will continue to influence Yamahas future supersport models.
Wednesday, 18 November 2020 01:08 AM In Europe, a track-ready version of the R6, known as the R6 RACE, was announced for sale, although there was no mention of it being available in other markets. This move suggests Yamaha is still committed to the R6s performance heritage, even if its not for street use. I believe this track-focused model will keep the R6s spirit alive among racing enthusiasts.
Wednesday, 18 November 2020 11:06 AM The discontinuation of the YZF-R6 has sparked speculation about Yamahas future lineup, with some theories suggesting that sport bikes based on the MT series could fill the gap. Models like an MT-R07 and MT-R09 are being discussed as potential successors. I think this could be an interesting direction for Yamaha, blending the MTs versatility with supersport performance.

Yamaha YZF-R6 Review

15 Oct, 2024 12:00 AM

Overview

The Yamaha YZF-R6 is that friend that’s always the first one up for the adrenaline fueled activity; you just have to be ready to keep them in check. Even if you’re not very into sportbikes, you’ve got the R6 on your radar. This bike has a reputation, and rightly so. The chassis feels fast, it is sleek, and it always looks race ready whether you’re zipping to the grocery store or flew over the finish line at 200 mph. It is what it is, and we are real, we can not do it without looking cool.

I’ll break it down for you. The R6 isn’t here to play. Styled around its 599cc inline-four engine, it’s built to rev high and get on very fast. It’s not your Sunday cruiser. Have you been playing a video game and everything goes by at top speed? Riding the R6 feels that way. It’s not just taking you from point A to point B, the ride is the whole point. Every ride is an event with this bike.

The R6 is one of the things that is always lives on this one, always feels alive. The bike almost seems to be doing your thoughts for you. You can be there with it, lean into a corner, no awkward pauses, no second guessing. It’s not like a dance in fancy ballroom, no, more like breakdancing at 100mph. It’s fluid, it’s fast, it’s demanding. Is it tricky to manage? Yeah, no doubt about it. This isn’t a beginner’s bike, but if you’ve got a fair bit of knowledge to your name it’s a total dream. Riding it every time makes me remember just how razor sharp the R6 really is.

Here’s something you should know, though: Yamaha retired the R6 for street use. If you’re looking at one, you’ll be seeing track only versions from here on out. And honestly, it makes sense. The R6 is on the track was meant to be. It seems to have been built for it. It’s cracked throttle you get it on a straightaway, the bike says, 'is that all you’ve got'? What does it sound like when it gets to those RPMs? Any gearhead’s ears sounds like absolute music. Trust me, you’ll want to turn it just to hear the sound alone.

And hey, nice article, I won’t sugar coat it. The R6 isn’t a bike you choose to make a long, comfortable ride with. It puts you huddled over the tank ready to fend off MotoGP. Not exactly the kind of relaxing that I’d have in mind. If your casual Sunday cruise is anything, it’s protest inducing. The cost for performance, at least. You don’t buy an R6 to feel safe. You buy it because you want speed and precision. They do not disappoint in either regard, and boy do they deliver on both score.

If you’re thinking about hitting the track with this beast now, you are going to have fun. With its lightweight aluminium frame, adjustable suspension and top tier brakes, it’s a dagger in the corner. It doesn’t turn; it carves through curves, point for point. The bike feels almost like an extension of your hands, you are in control of every ounce of it. The intuitive thing to do just seems to make it work, feel responsive and downright makes your blood pump. You’ll end the session with your face grinning and maybe some sore muscles from bracing yourself on that learning windmill. But trust me, it’s worth it.

Is the Yamaha YZF-R6 worth it then? Absolutely. This is a no brainer if you’re a speed junkie who lives for sharp corners and how that accelerates your kid’s stomach when you hit the throttle. It’s about the experience, not just a machine. All you have to be is just ready to keep up. R6 is not the sort of bike that you jump on and ride without exerting effort. And when you do? It’s like flying without wings, well.

Impressive Bike ?? ??

The Yamaha R6 is an impressive bike, with a chassis that is a sight to behold. The updated looks, as well as its front end and brakes, make it an incredibly capable middleweight. Despite the reduced peak power due to Euro4 regulations, the R6 still offers a unique experience that is unmatched by any other supersport in the market. Its price tag may be a bit high for a 600, but its performance more than makes up for it. Overall, the Yamaha R6 is an excellent choice for any motorcyclist looking for a powerful, thrilling ride.

9 lakhs is simply to high. Anything lesser than 7.5 lakhs on road is too high for a 600, even for a super high revving sports bike like an r6

Yamaha R6 may be launched in mid 2012 but as of now there is no official announcement. R6 is technically the most advanced bike in under 600cc that any manufacturer has ever made and don't expect R6 to be in the price range of around 6 to 7 lakhs. It would be much more expensive then you have thought. The price tag may be between 8 lakhs to 10 lakhs but is not confirmed yet. Many professional bikers hav been waiting for this bike for so long, just pray that yamaha keeps the price low for this bike considering the competition in the market by other bikes like Hoyosung 650 and kawasaki 650.

i didnt get it at all.. its 6 lakh..and on road it should be 6.50 lakh and so.. but the point is, its not launched nor any launch date is given. there are news too that it wont launch in india. first thing you guys show expected early 2012.. the auto expo is going on yamaha have shown all coming bikes..why not the R6 then. i am sorry m a bit confused and dont have any solid source for the information.. is there any exact date of launching the Yzf R6 ? About price is it 6 lakhs rs+ (on road price)... that should be around 6.50 lakhs.. so is it the final price ? as i heard some where there is just 2000 $ difference between R1 and R6 ..
