Yamaha Ray BLUE CORE Review

15 Dec, 2015 10:21 AM

Yamaha is known for its high quality performance machines and everyone knows that they won't compromise on it. Yamaha India has been launching many successful models from the very beginning and with the urge to stay intact in every segment of the Indian motorcycle industry. Yamaha has been updating its offering from time to time. Yamaha Ray is a gearless scooter from Yamaha, which has not gained popularity despite of its advance technologies than the rivals.

Design & Style

The Yamaha Ray uses a different scope of styling rather than following a common structure of a gearless scooter. The main attraction being its huge sized headlight placed on the lower part of front body instead of handlebar mounted lamp. The indicators on both side increases the aggressiveness but the whole structure looks odd to some eyes. Its styling is all about your taste, you like being unique and it will justify.

Instrument Console

The Ray features a simple looking analogue instrument console, which comprises of a speedometer in the center and the fuel indicator in a different compartment below it. The background remains textured black inside the meter and the high beam indicator stays on the right of the speedometer. The odometer, as always stays inside the speedometer area.

Engine & Performance

The Yamaha Ray has a 113 cc motor, which produces 7 BHP @ 7500 rpm and 8.1 NM @ 5000 rpm. The CVT transmission has been used for the gearless scooter and it also houses the new Yamaha Blue-core technology, which is said to increase the efficiency of the scooter, both in terms of mileage and performance. The fuel system remains carburettor controlled and the cooling remains in the hand of air only.

Brakes & Suspension

The braking unit on both the tires include a 130 mm drum braking system. The suspension at the front is telescopic, which is not even offered in the bestseller automatic scooter in India. The rear has the traditional unit swing type and the combo of 90/100-R10 tires for both front and back are making it a complete comfortable unit for city riding.

Shades & Ex-showroom Price

The Yamaha Ray is available in Black Star, Burgundy Bliss and Starry White shade with a price tag of INR 47,805. The price seems quiet nominal as compared to other scooters in the market, with lesser comfort features than the Ray.
