General information and overview

The 2015 Santro Xing is a compact five‑door hatchback built around a simple, frugal 1.1‑litre petrol engine paired to a five‑speed manual (automatic variants were limited), with packaging that emphasises interior space, easy ingress/egress and low maintenance cost. Equipment levels are basic by modern standards but practical: comfortable seating for four to five in city use, a reasonably sized boot, uncomplicated HVAC and straightforward switchgear that’s cheap to repair. Safety items on many 2015 Santros are limited—depending on the variant you may find only driver airbag or none, and electronic aids are minimal—so factor in potential additional spends for safety upgrades. Overall, it’s a pragmatic choice if you prioritise economy, simple ownership and urban usability over contemporary features and premium refinement.

The Hyundai Santro Xing 2015 GL Plus, Hyundai's long-serving city hatch phased out in late 2014 but available into early 2015 stock, features a 1086 cc inline-4 Epsilon petrol engine with 63 PS power, 96 Nm torque, and 5-speed manual gearbox for agile city drives up to 130 kmph top speed. Its five-door tall-boy body in six colors like silver or red seats five comfortably with good front space, basic AC, power steering in GL Plus, and 35-litre tank, plus high ground clearance for Indian roads. Boot space suits urban needs, suspension absorbs bumps reliably, and with variants from non-AC base to feature-rich GLS, it prioritizes low maintenance and parts availability. I recommend it for new drivers or families seeking an affordable, no-nonsense used buy under Rs. 2.5 lakh today, delivering proven durability past 1 lakh km with regular services—perfect for cost-effective mobility without compromising essentials.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

I appreciate the Santro Xing (2015) for what it is: a practical, no-nonsense city hatchback that prioritises packaging, ease of use and low running cost over flash. The 1.1‑litre petrol engine delivers adequate urban performance and a light clutch and steering make it effortless in traffic; rear seat space and a sensible boot make it versatile for small families and daily errands. Build quality and features are basic compared with newer hatchbacks, so you should expect dated fit-and-finish and fewer safety features by today’s standards, but maintenance parts are widely available and inexpensive. If your priority is an affordable, reliable commuter that’s cheap to run and simple to live with, the Santro Xing remains a sensible buy; if you want modern connectivity, top-tier safety or brisk performance, you’ll find more compelling choices in more recent models.
December 21, 2025
I find the Hyundai Santro Xing 2015 GL Plus a reliable city companion that excels in Indian urban chaos with its compact size, making parking effortless even in tight spots, and a peppy 1086 cc petrol engine delivering 63 PS and 96 Nm for smooth daily commutes. Its tall-boy design offers excellent visibility, good front legroom, and a surprisingly spacious cabin for five, plus a decent boot for groceries or weekend bags, all backed by durable suspension that handles pothole-ridden roads well. Maintenance stays low with widespread Hyundai service networks, and at just 17 kmpl average mileage, running costs remain budget-friendly for first-time buyers. While top speed caps at 130 kmph and highway stability isn't premium, for city runs under 50 km daily, it proves value-packed without fuss, holding strong even after a decade if serviced regularly—ideal if you prioritize affordability over frills.

Recent news and announcements

In May 2022, Hyundai announced the discontinuation of the Hyundai Santro once again, marking the end of an era for a car that had been a staple in the Indian market since its introduction in 1998. The decision was made due to declining sales and the need to focus on more profitable models. I think this move is a sign of the evolving automotive landscape in India, where consumer preferences are shifting towards newer and more feature-rich vehicles.
May 18, 2022
By 2015, the Hyundai Santro Xing had completed its 17-year run in India, with the company deciding to discontinue it to make way for newer models like the Grand i10 and the Elite i20. The Santro Xing was known for its tall-boy design, spacious cabin, and reliable engine, but it had become less competitive in the market. I believe the Santro Xings legacy will be remembered for its impact on the Indian automotive scene.
January 14, 2015
In the years leading up to its discontinuation in 2015, the Hyundai Santro Xing received several updates, including cosmetic changes and new features. It was available with a 1.1-litre petrol engine and even had a CNG variant. The car was praised for its performance, fuel economy, and ease of handling. I think these updates helped extend the life of the Santro Xing, but ultimately couldnt prevent its discontinuation.
December 31, 2014
The Hyundai Santro Xing was a significant model for Hyundai in India, celebrating a milestone of 10 lakh sales during its tenure. To commemorate this, Hyundai released various limited-edition variants of the Santro Xing. This strategy helped keep the car relevant and appealing to consumers. I believe these limited editions added a touch of exclusivity to the model.
January 1, 2014
In 2008, the Hyundai Santro Xing continued to be a popular choice in the Indian market, known for its decent looks, good quality paint work, and spacious interior. Owners praised its engine performance, fuel economy, and handling. However, some noted areas for improvement, such as the clutch pedal placement and the need for more leg room in the back seat. I think these user reviews highlight the cars strengths and weaknesses well.

Price

Pricing details and changes

When new in 2015 the Santro Xing sat at an entry-level price bracket (ex-showroom Delhi roughly between around ₹3.1 lakh and ₹4.5 lakh depending on variant and equipment), and used examples in India today vary widely by condition, kilometres and service history; typical well-maintained used prices in 2025 range modestly above scrap values but remain among the lowest for petrol hatchbacks of that era in most cities. Ex-showroom pricing is no longer directly applicable since the model is discontinued, so on-road cost for a used unit you’re likely to pay includes RTO transfer, insurance and any immediate servicing or parts replacement—budget for a professional inspection and a safety-oriented service (brakes, tyres, suspension bushes) when buying. I recommend prioritising cars with full service records and a verified odometer; a clean, regularly serviced Santro will give the best balance of low purchase price and low ongoing costs.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

Real-world petrol mileage for the 1.1‑litre Santro Xing typically falls between about 12–16 km/l in mixed city/highway driving; careful city driving and light servicing can nudge it toward the higher end, while heavy traffic and aggressive acceleration reduce returns. If low running cost is critical, inspect compression and ignition state and consider a CNG conversion only if professionally installed and if you do very high mileage.
December 21, 2025
I rate the 2015 Santro Xing GL Plus at 17 kmpl city-highway average on petrol, stretching to 19-20 kmpl on highways with steady driving, thanks to its efficient 1086 cc engine and light kerb weight—real-world users confirm low running costs at Rs. 4-5 per km. For mileage-focused buyers, it's a winner over thirstier rivals, keeping fuel bills under control for 30-50 km daily use, making it a practical pick despite age.
