Why bother? If you wanted more performance, you should have bought a bigger bike. For what it is, the FZS V3 is great.

I focus on weight reduction. I removed unnecessary bits and swapped some parts for lighter alternatives. No engine mods needed to achieve better performance.

Braided steel upgraded the brake lines. It's a safety mod that shouldn't void anything, and it made a massive improvement in brake feel.

In the wet the stock tyres are ok, but nothing special. I then switched to a set of Michelin Pilot Streets, and the difference in wet grip is night and day.

I expected it to handle rain worse than it does. A couple of times when I've had to brake hard on wet roads the ABS has saved my bacon.

I don’t like how it drives in heavy rain. The drum brake version has a bit too much tendency to step out at the rear for my liking.

In the wet, as long as you're smooth with the controls, it's fine. In those conditions, it’s more about the rider than the bike.

The FZ does alright, but I would have liked better water dispersion channels in the tyre tread. You have to be really careful in standing water.

I travel to work year round, rain or shine. I've never had the FZ let me down in wet weather. It’s just a matter of changing your riding style and being more cautious.

It’s okay in the rain, but not great. If you’ve ridden bigger bikes with more electronic aids, you’ll notice the lack of traction control.

Mine I've kept stock, and I'm fine with it. I don't want to mess with that balance; Yamaha engineers know what they're doing.

Having a bike is half the fun of modding! I've put a K&N filter on it and got a performance exhaust and it's really made a difference in the throttle response.

The way to go are subtle mods. I have some LED upgrades and some frame sliders. It improves the look without going overboard, and makes things safer.

There's no point in modding for performance. The cost is minimal, and the gains are also minimal. If you want more power, just get a bigger bike.

Stick to practical mods. Maybe a better seat, maybe some auxiliary lights for night riding. Anything beyond that is just money down the drain.

I modded mine, but mostly reverted changes. For me, the bike felt best in stock form.

It depends on your goal. If you’re wanting to stand out, then yeah, mod away. If performance is what you’re after, you won’t get the results you’re looking for on an FZ.

It's a great platform for mild customization, I think. It’s easy to make your own without going crazy. Just be aware of warranty and legality issues.
