If Toyota decided to bring back the Celica today, what would it need to have to be a success?
Things have advanced a great deal in the auto world since the Celica was dropped in 2006. The modern sports car is challenged by stricter emissions, changing consumer tastes and the move to electrification. It would need to provide a new Celica with the intangible, visceral 'feel' of the old, as well as incorporating the technology and market requirements needed of a modern car. These could range from powertrain options (conventional, hybrid or all electric), driving dynamics, the interior technology, safety features and design language. It would also have to fit into Toyota's lineup, possibly between the GR86 and Supra. If a new 'Celica' were to succeed it would have to be able to capture the essence of the original while also delivering what car buyers today expect from a car.

A Celica "crossover coupe"? It’s sacrilegious, but it could be a sportier alternative to the C-HR that actually justifies the Celica name.

I believe a new Celica should be all about technology. Make it the latest in driver assists, a high tech interior, but not lose the sporty driving dynamics.

It should be a "mini Supra" with turbocharged four cylinder and rear wheel drive. It gives sharp handling and an optional manual for the enthusiasts.

Keep it simple, and keep it affordable. A lightweight naturally aspirated sports coupe with great handling. It's basically a step up from the GR86 but below the Supra.

An all electric Celica would be awesome to see. Make an EV that’s actually fun to drive, not just practical, using the sporty heritage.

All-Trac system, bring it back! Today's market would be amazing with an AWD Celica with a turbo engine. It’s essentially the Golf R alternative to a Toyota.

It has to be a hybrid with an optional manual. The best of both worlds if you combine Toyotas hybrid tech with a sporty chassis.
