What is it like to live with the Murano in daily family life compared to more traditional family SUVs?
06 January 2025 09:16
With three children I can say the Murano handles family life surprisingly well. There’s enough room in the back seat for car seats and the cargo area swallows up all our gear. It's not as boxy as a Pilot, but that means it doesn't feel as much like a minivan substitute. And the kids like that it looks cool.
Does the Murano's fuel efficiency make it a good choice over a hybrid SUV?
06 January 2025 09:16
I believe the Achilles' heel of the Murano is its fuel efficiency. It’s not terrible, but in 2025, it seems dated. To keep up with the competition, Nissan has to provide a hybrid version. Smooth, the V6 is, but with the fuel costs required to keep it fed, there are just too many more efficient alternatives now.
Is the Nissan Murano’s CVT transmission really as bad as people say?
06 January 2025 09:16
I’ve seen my fair share of CVT problems as a mechanic, but the Murano has tended to fare better than smaller Nissans. It takes less strain off the transmission because of the V6 engine. However, religious maintenance is essential. When you’re buying used make sure there is a solid service history.
The Murano's interior quality and tech features are as good as they get, but how do they compare with luxury brand competitors?
06 January 2025 09:16
The Murano's interior is a classic case of 'jack of all trades, master of none'. On the other hand, it's definitely nicer than most mainstream SUVs, though it's definitely not true luxury. The tech is good, but it's not newfangled. Some finishes feel cheap, but comfort is great. If you want to feel fancy, but don't want to break the bank, it's perfect.
How dated has the Murano’s unique styling become?
06 January 2025 09:16
As a car designer, I have to hand it to Nissan for holding the line with the Murano. It’s not about following trends, it’s about setting them. Although it looks much like any other car in parking lots, the sculpted body and unique light signatures still make it stand out. It, however, ages like a fine wine, not for everyone, but it is distinctive.
How does the Magnite’s build quality fare over the long run?
06 January 2025 08:21
For the price, honestly, it's better than I expected. It’s not luxury car quality, but for the everyday use, it feels sturdy enough. And don't expect it to feel like a car that costs twice as much.
Does the Magnite’s 4 star GNCAP rating actually mean safety?
06 January 2025 08:21
Crash tests are a good baseline, but real world safety is about more than that. But the Magnite's higher ground clearance and good visibility are safety plusses not accounted for in the GNCAP score.
But is the Magnite’s infotainment system actually user friendly or just flashy?
06 January 2025 08:21
It freezes occasionally, and I've had problems with that. It’s annoying when you’re trying to use navigation, but a quick restart fixes it. Nissan has to get on improving the software.
What are the long road trip capabilities like on the Magnite when compared to its rivals?
06 January 2025 08:21
I think it’s great for road trips! Good visibility comes with a high seating position, and boot space is good enough for luggage. The only thing I wish the rear seats had was a little more thigh support for the passengers.
Is the additional cost for CVT over the AMT worth it for the Nissan Magnite?
06 January 2025 08:21
Nah, stick with the AMT. It's cheaper and it gets the job done. You’ll also save a ton of money up front that you can spend on accessories, or just put in your pocket. Once you get used to it, the AMT's not as bad as people make it out to be.
Is Nissan’s e-Pedal feature on the LEAF a game changer or a gimmick?
06 January 2025 08:13
It's great for efficiency, but I worry that new drivers will run off of it too much. You still need to practice using the brake pedal.
How does the interior space of the Nissan LEAF compare to equivalent size gas cars?
06 January 2025 08:13
Cargo space is awkwardly shaped, but it’s roomier than my old Civic. There are some times I miss having a normal trunk for larger items.
Is a lack of active battery cooling in the Nissan LEAF a deal breaker?
06 January 2025 08:13
It depends on your use case. It’s not a big deal if you’re leasing or you only plan to keep the car for a few years. You definitely have to worry about that for long term ownership, particularly if you want to fast charge a lot.
Is the Nissan LEAF future proofed by CHAdeMO charging standard?
06 January 2025 08:13
It's definitely a concern. I’ve seen fewer CHAdeMO chargers installed in my vicinity and CCS is all over the place. In the future, this might limit what road trip options could have and become a serious issue.
Now that we have some time under our belt with the Nissan LEAF, how does its value proposition stack up in 2024?
06 January 2025 08:13
It depends on your needs. The LEAF is hard to beat if you want a no frills, reliable EV for commuting. If you need long range or the latest tech, however, look elsewhere.
Why is the Nissan Kicks so much cheaper?
06 January 2025 08:04
Don’t forget resale value. Kicks depreciate faster than other crossovers and while the low initial price might seem attractive, the cost to keep up with maintenance becomes a lot more expensive. In the long run you will lose more.
How reliable is the Nissan Kicks compared to other subcompacts SUVs?
06 January 2025 08:04
According to Motor Trend, the Kicks seems to be more reliable than other Nissan models. They have learned from previous mistakes and they have become a better team.
Does the Nissan Kicks have the space to fit a small family?
06 January 2025 08:04
It's all relative. The Kicks feels huge, coming from a compact sedan. However, if you are downsizing from a larger SUV, you will feel cramped.
But is the Nissan Kicks really a good value for your money, or would you be better off spending a little more on a competitor?
06 January 2025 08:04
It depends on what you value. The Kicks, if you don’t mind having the latest tech and safety features but don’t want to pay top dollar, is tough to beat.
Do people actually think the Nissan Kicks is underpowered?
06 January 2025 08:04
The real culprit here is the CVT. The transmission makes it feel way slower than it actually is, the engine itself isn't terrible. A traditional automatic would make all the difference in the world.
