The Murano's interior quality and tech features are as good as they get, but how do they compare with luxury brand competitors?

Nissan Murano is an interesting vehicle in that it's a 'near luxury' SUV. Priced below many luxury brand offerings, it tries to offer a premium experience. It is the interior design, material quality, and technology features that will make or break Murano’s ability to compete against more costly alternatives. It's often compared to entry level luxury SUVs and buyers wonder if you're getting the same quality for less money or if there's a huge gap in refinement and features. In this question, we dive into how the Murano stacks up against competitors at higher price points, from comfort of its seats to quality of its infotainment system, driver aid features, and does the Murano measure up in fit and finish?

I shopped the Murano against the Lexus RX, and I have to say that I was more impressed by the Nissan's interior than any of the others. The floating center console, and the insanely comfortable zero gravity seats, look super sleek. Yeah, some plastics aren’t great, but they just feel way more expensive than they actually are.

The Murano's interior is nice, but it's not luxury nice. There’s still too much hard plastic in there for my liking, and the infotainment system feels dated compared to what you get in an Audi or BMW. For the price, it's good, but when you go luxury, there's a clear step up.

I have owned a Murano and an Acura RDX, and the Nissan holds its own pretty well. While the materials aren’t quite as plush, the design is more interesting. You also get a lot of the same tech features for less money. If you’re looking for something nicer than a CR-V but don’t want to pay luxury prices, this is a great middle ground.

The Murano's interior is a classic case of 'jack of all trades, master of none'. On the other hand, it's definitely nicer than most mainstream SUVs, though it's definitely not true luxury. The tech is good, but it's not newfangled. Some finishes feel cheap, but comfort is great. If you want to feel fancy, but don't want to break the bank, it's perfect.

I think people undersell the Murano. It’s not a Mercedes, yes, but it gets the basics right. It really is comfortable for long trips, the Bose audio system rocks, and the overall design is modern. It's flying business class instead of first, without the eye wateringly expensive price tag.

Being a car detailer, I can tell you that the Murano's interior quality is a hit or miss. There are some parts that feel premium, and others that definitely are not. There's some nice leather and soft touch materials, but if you look closely you'll find some flimsy buttons and plastics. It's good, but not great.

Solid but not spectacular is the tech in the Murano. There’s Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which is great, but the interface feels a bit clunky compared to luxury brands. However, safety features are comprehensive. If you don’t need the latest and greatest, it’s a good middle ground.
