Does the Nissan Kicks have the space to fit a small family?
Nissan markets the Kicks as a versatile subcompact SUV, but there’s a lot of chatter about just how practical it is for family use. Though it presents a higher ride position and crossover appearance, its small size has shocked people regarding interior room and cargo capacity. There are those who say it's fine for a couple with a small child, and others who say it's too small for anything more than basic urban commuting. Discussion tends to revolve around rear seat leg room, car seat compatibility and whether or not the space available in the cargo area is big enough to hold strollers and other family gear. It's an entry into the larger trend of downsizing vehicles and the compromises of going with a smaller, more fuel efficient solution for family transportation.
If you have one kid, it’s fine, but if you have two, you’ll be wishing for more space real quick.
With two kids under 5, we manage just fine. There’s smart packing and realistic expectations for a subcompact.
The Kicks is not so much a true SUV as it is a lifted hatchback. If you need real family space, look at the Rogue instead.
It was roomy inside, I thought. It seems bigger than it is, due to the tall roof, and upright seating position.
It's doable, but not ideal. Ours is a second car for short trips, but I wouldn’t want it as our only family car.
For the class, the cargo space is pretty generous. It fits our stroller and a week’s worth of groceries no problem.
It's all relative. The Kicks feels huge, coming from a compact sedan. However, if you are downsizing from a larger SUV, you will feel cramped.
