USER OPINION

Our take on this /// Verdict
The Yamaha XMAX 400 is a highly capable and versatile maxi-scooter that excels in various aspects, making it a strong contender in its segment. I found it to be comfortable, agile, and capable at both low and high speeds. The scooters handling is impressive, with a light and agile feel that makes it easy to steer even at low speeds. The adjustable elements such as the handlebars, screen, and rear suspension allow for a customized ride that suits different riding styles. However, the lack of quick adjustability for these components can be a bit inconvenient. The XMAX 400 also features robust brakes, including dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc at the rear, along with standard ABS and traction control, which enhance safety and confidence on the road. While it may not be the most engaging ride for everyone, it is undoubtedly a practical and reliable choice for those seeking a sporty maxi-scooter.
Price
The Yamaha XMAX 400 is not currently available in the Indian market, which makes it challenging to provide exact pricing details for India. However, if we were to consider its global pricing and convert it to Indian rupees, the ex-showroom price would likely be in the range of INR 4 to 5 lakhs, depending on the exchange rates and local taxes. The on-road price would be higher, including additional costs such as registration, insurance, and other local fees, potentially pushing it to around INR 5 to 6 lakhs. This pricing would position the XMAX 400 as a premium offering in the Indian scooter market, reflecting its advanced features and performance capabilities.
Latest Updates
Monday, 05 August 2024 11:19 PM The Yamaha Xmax 400, the last 400cc scooter produced by Yamaha, was discontinued in 2020 due to the implementation of new Euro 5 emission norms. This model, which was introduced in 2013, featured a 395cc engine producing 33 bhp and 36 Nm of torque. It was known for its powerful performance and safety features like dual disc brakes and traction control. I believe this scooter was a great option for those seeking a powerful and feature-rich ride, but its discontinuation has left a gap in the market.
Saturday, 05 December 2020 12:05 PM Yamahas decision to stop producing the Xmax 400 has led to speculation about future models. There is discussion among enthusiasts about the possibility of a new Euro 5 compliant 400cc scooter or an upgraded Xmax 300 model. The current absence of a 400cc scooter in Yamahas lineup has left some fans hoping for a return of this powerful and popular model. I think Yamaha should consider reviving the 400cc segment, given its past success and loyal customer base.
Saturday, 05 December 2020 08:06 PM The Yamaha Xmax 400 was praised for its stability and performance, even in challenging weather conditions. Owners noted its ability to handle strong winds and heavy rain without any issues. The scooters weight, however, was a drawback, making low-speed maneuvers and parking more difficult. I believe the Xmax 400s performance in adverse weather makes it a reliable choice for daily commuting.
Sunday, 14 July 2013 03:19 PM The Yamaha Xmax 400 was never officially sold in the U.S., but it gained popularity in other markets for its sleek design and advanced features. The scooter included an adjustable windscreen, keyless ignition, and a comprehensive dashboard. Its design and technology made it a standout in the maxi scooter category. I believe the Xmax 400 set a high standard for scooters, and its design elements could influence future Yamaha models.
Sunday, 14 July 2013 10:14 PM In the UK, the Xmax 400 was seen as a replacement for the Yamaha Majesty 400, another popular 400cc scooter. However, some fans of the Majesty 400 preferred its tried and tested design over the newer Xmax 400. The Xmax 400s sharper looks and updated features did attract many buyers, though. I think both models had their unique strengths, and the choice between them depended on personal preferences.
Mileage
Tuesday, 19 November 2024 12:19 AM The Yamaha XMAX 400 is known for its respectable fuel economy, which is a significant factor for many Indian buyers. According to global reviews, the XMAX 400 can achieve a fuel economy of around 67.6 mpg (miles per gallon), which translates to approximately 28.7 kml (kilometers per liter) under gentle riding conditions. However, this figure can vary based on riding style and conditions a spirited motorway ride might reduce the mileage to around 62 mpg (25.3 kml). In Indian traffic conditions, one could expect an average fuel economy of around 25-28 kml, making it a relatively fuel-efficient option for daily commuting and long rides. Love the red colour, the Chrome highlights and the seat is very comfortable too. I find it very reliable even in icy weather and the traction control has kicked in a few times to save me.

I bought my brand new Yamaha X-MAX 125 on the 2nd November 2018. I've only had it a few months but love it already. It’s everything I need from a bike with plenty of style and enough speed for my needs. It has plenty space for carrying things under the seat and I had a top box fitted too.
