Expert opinion and recommendation
The UM Renegade Sports S is a mixed bag when it comes to overall performance and user experience. On the positive side, this cruiser motorcycle boasts a stylish and macho design that attracts a lot of attention, with its dual-color tone and LED lights all around the bike. The 279.5 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine provides decent performance, especially in the mid-range, making it suitable for daily commutes and leisure rides. However, there are several drawbacks that potential buyers should consider. The bikes build quality and reliability have been questioned by several users, with reports of compromised performance after the initial service and issues with the chassis. Additionally, the rear seat comfort is not impressive, and the brakes lack adequate bite and feel. Despite these issues, the bikes comfort for the rider, thanks to its ergonomically designed gel seat and raised handlebar, is a notable plus. Overall, while it offers some unique features and a comfortable ride for the driver, it falls short in terms of build quality and long-term reliability.
Recent news and announcements
The UM Renegade Sport S has been gaining attention in the Indian market for its blend of classic and modern design. The motorcycle is available in three engine variants: 150cc, 200cc, and 300cc, each offering a unique balance of power and efficiency. I think the 200cc variant is a sweet spot for most riders, providing enough power for adventurous rides without compromising on fuel efficiency.
UM Motorcycles has emphasized the safety features of the Renegade Sport S, including disc brakes on both wheels and a combined braking system (CBS), ensuring efficient and stable braking control. The bike also features LED lighting for enhanced visibility, which is a significant plus for night riding. This focus on safety makes it a reliable choice for daily commuters and long-distance riders alike.
The Renegade Sport S boasts a full digital dashboard, providing a seamless and intuitive interface for riders. This includes a digital odometer, fuel gauge, tachometer, and a USB charging port to keep devices connected on the go. I believe this modern touch enhances the overall riding experience, making it more convenient and enjoyable.
In terms of design, the Renegade Sport S combines retro aesthetics with modern flair, appealing to both classic motorcycle enthusiasts and those who crave a youthful vibe. The bike is available in several color schemes, including glossy red, matte black, and glossy yellow, which adds to its visual appeal.
The ergonomic design and well-tuned suspension of the Renegade Sport S ensure smooth handling and control on various terrains. This makes it suitable for both city rides and long-distance travel, providing comfort and stability to riders.
Pricing details and changes
The UM Renegade Sports S was priced in the range of Rs. 1,59,652 to Rs. 1,66,065 ex-showroom in Delhi. However, its important to note that this bike has been discontinued since March 2016. For those considering a used model, prices can start from around Rs. 80,000, depending on the condition and mileage of the bike. As a buyer, you need to weigh the pros and cons, especially considering the bikes reliability issues and the fact that it is no longer supported by the manufacturer with new parts or services. The price, while attractive for a used bike, should be balanced against the potential long-term costs and hassles.
Fuel efficiency information
The UM Renegade Sports S offers a mileage of around 35 kmpl, which is quite reasonable for a cruiser motorcycle of its class. This mileage makes it comfortable for daily leisure usage and long rides, especially when considering the 18-liter fuel tank capacity. However, the actual mileage can vary based on riding conditions and maintenance of the bike. For users concerned about running costs, this mileage is a positive aspect, but it should be considered in conjunction with the bikes overall reliability and maintenance needs.

Expert Verdict
Professional reviews and expert opinions on UM Renegade Sports S
UML's most affordable offering for the country, the Renegade Sport S 300 is a great motorcycle in itself. It displays a more modern approach towards the styling of its own parts and has been launched at a price tag of INR 1,49,000. The motorcycle is available in 3 shades namely Black Shine, Young Orange, and Young Red.
Sport S 300 comes with a minimal fairing around the front headlight and that too is finished in dual tone with black as a standard shade. The same also acts as a windshield and a style enhancer for the motorcycle. It can be easily removed and that would result in a round headlamp at the front. The low profile and matching 7-spoke alloy wheels with silver inserts is the best part of the bike. It uses Black and the color being chosen in a very well laid manner.
The exhaust has also been finished Black. The motorcycle is a single seat offering with a pnale instead of the pillion seat. The engine powering the Sport S is a 280cc, liquid cooled engine producing 24.8 BHP @ 8500 rpm and 21.8 NM @ 7000 rpm. The gearbox is a 6-speed unit while the bike gets a top speed of 125 kmph. It is quite heavy at 172 kg with 90 percent of fuel in it. The fuel tank is a huge 18 liter unit of the Sport S.
The front telescopic forks are covered through an outer frame whereas the rear uses dual hydraulic shocks on the motorcycle. The font brake measures 280 mm whereas the rear is equipped with a drum brake only. It uses a cruiser style 17 inch 110/70 front tyre and a small 15 inch 140/90 rear tyre. The motorcycle is expected to deliver around 30-35 kmpl of mileage in mixed riding mode.
