Triumph Thunderbird Storm Review

Quick Review by Maxabout Team

Triumph Thunderbird is a fabulously built cruiser by Triumph which was first introduced to the world in 1949 and gained worldwide recognition due to its comfortable, distinctive and powerful performance. It wasn't until 1966 that it had seen any change and even got a good response too. A powerful model with a 1699cc engine was introduced in 2011 with the name of Triumph Thunderbird Storm and that in black too. It can also be said that despite of the changes this cruiser has seen, it still carries the divine legacy of the original Thunderbird including its hard-edged style, a mean look with attitude, great handling and a powerful engine.

`

Triumph Thunderbird Storm is a perfect combination of stylish and macho looks with a great number of comfort features. It has an all-black theme that really suits its design and has some other striking details which includes a big black engine, black rear springs and headlight bowls, forward-sited footrests and controls and wide pulled-back bars for a comfortable riding position, a detachable passenger seat to enjoy the solo riding, an exceptionally stiff twin spine steel tube frame, 5-spoke cast-aluminum alloy wheels(19-inch front and 17-inch rear) with 120/70 R19 front and 200/50 R17 rear Metzeler tires and ABS as Standard.

The instrument display is a tank-mounted analogue speedometer featuring an integrated rev counter, scroll button on handlebars, a LCD trip computer, a fuel gauge and a clock, praise-worthy twin-sided steel swing arms, a chromed twin-skin stainless steel 2-1-2 exhaust with tandem large-volume catalysts in a centralized cat-box and chrome-plated silencers, distinctive twin halogen headlights, a Thunderbird paper dart logo embossed above the word Storm on the clutch cover, front and rear turn indicators(bulbs) and a beautiful LED tail light to make it a formidable competitor.

This spectacular cruiser has got a length of 2340mm, a width of 880mm and a height of 1120mm as its dimensions along with the seat height of 700mm and has a large wheelbase of 1615mm for a stable and comfy ride. It has a rake and trail of 32-degrees and 151mm respectively and a fuel tank capacity of 22liters along with a wet weight of 339kgs.

Triumph Thunderbird Storm has got a powerful 1,699cc, 2-cylinders, 4-valves per cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC and a camshaft with 270-degrees of firing intervals, multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection with progressive linkage on throttle, a wet multi-plate clutch, parallel-twin engine with a maximum power of 96.5 bhp at 5,200rpm and a maximum torque of 156Nm at 2,950rpm and is mated with a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox(helical type 2nd-6th) to give a top speed of almost 200kmph with an urban fuel consumption of 38us mpg. It also has a bore and stroke of 107.1mm and 94.3mm respectively and an oil capacity of 4.2liters along with a quiet and clean inverted toothed belt as its final drive which has carbon fiber strands for high tensile strength and a patented ultra-hard coating to minimize wear.

Triumph Thunderbird Storm has got 310mm diameter twin floating disk brakes with Nissin 4-piston fixed calipers at front and 310mm diameter single fixed disk brakes with Brembo 2-piston floating caliper at rear. The suspension system consists of Showa 47mm forks with 120mm wheel travel at front and Showa chromed spring twin shocks with 5-position adjustable preload and 95mm wheel travel at rear. ABS is a standard feature.
