About
The KTM 390 Adventure X is a variant of the popular 390 Adventure series, designed to offer a more affordable yet highly capable adventure touring experience. It retains the same robust 373cc single-cylinder engine as the standard model, producing 43.5 PS of power and 37 Nm of torque. The bike features a steel trellis frame, a split LED headlamp, and a two-step adjustable windscreen, along with handguards for added protection. The 390 Adventure X comes with a simple LCD display instead of the TFT screen found on higher variants, and it uses MRF MoGrip tyres, which are decent but not as grippy as the Metzelers. The bikes high seat height of 855 mm and ground clearance of 200 mm make it well-suited for both on-road and off-road adventures. With its powerful acceleration, composed handling, and comfortable seating, the 390 Adventure X is an excellent choice for riders looking for a versatile and performance-oriented adventure bike.

Our take on this /// Verdict
The KTM 390 Adventure X is a compelling option for those seeking a powerful and capable adventure tourer without breaking the bank. While it misses out on some features like the TFT display, quickshifter, traction control, and cornering ABS found in the standard variant, it still delivers exceptional performance and handling. The bikes ability to handle both on-road and off-road terrain with ease, coupled with its comfortable seating posture and composed body balance, makes it a standout. However, the suspension could be better, and the MRF MoGrip tyres, though decent, lack the grip and confidence of the Metzeler tyres on the higher variants. Despite these minor drawbacks, the 390 Adventure X offers tremendous value at its price point, making it an excellent choice for adventure enthusiasts.
Price
The KTM 390 Adventure X is priced at 2.81 lakh ex-showroom in India, which is approximately 65,000 cheaper than the standard 390 Adventure. This pricing makes it the most affordable sub-400cc adventure bike in the market. On-road prices will vary depending on the state and local taxes, but you can expect to pay around 3.2 lakh to 3.4 lakh, including registration, insurance, and other costs. Given the performance and features it offers, the 390 Adventure X is a great value proposition, allowing you to allocate the saved money towards accessories, riding gear, or even a tyre upgrade.
KTM 390 Adventure X on road price is Rs 3.23 lakh in Delhi, Rs 3.34 lakh in Mumbai, Rs 3.27 lakh in Kolkata and Rs 3.31 lakh in Chennai. The prices mentioned here are approximate and we suggest you contact your nearest KTM dealership to get the exact on-road price quote in your city.
Latest Updates
Sunday, 27 October 2024 03:02 PM
The KTM 390 Adventure X is expected to feature a rally-inspired design, similar to the previously spied test bikes, with an orange and black color option and a black frame. It will come equipped with an LCD instrument console, dual-channel ABS, and non-adjustable suspension with 200mm of travel. The bike will have a lower seat height of 825mm and smaller 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels. I think this configuration makes it more accessible for riders who prefer on-road comfort with occasional mild off-roading.
Friday, 25 October 2024 10:11 AM
The KTM 390 Adventure X will be powered by a 398.63cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, similar to the one in the KTM 390 Duke, producing 45.3bhp and 39Nm of torque. However, the engine tune and sprocket sizes are expected to be different for the Adventure models. The bike will also lack advanced features like cornering ABS and traction control to keep costs in check. I believe this balance between power and affordability will make it an attractive option for many buyers.
Friday, 25 October 2024 08:24 PM
The KTM 390 Adventure X is anticipated to be priced around Rs 3.5 lakh, making it a more budget-friendly option compared to the higher-spec 390 Adventure R. This pricing strategy could help KTM compete more effectively in the Indian market against other adventure bikes. I think the competitive pricing will be a significant factor in its market success.
Thursday, 17 October 2024 09:25 AM
The KTM 390 Adventure X will have a simpler electronics package compared to the 390 Adventure R, with features like an LCD instrument cluster and switchable ABS. This simplification helps in reducing costs and making the bike more affordable for a wider audience. I believe this approach will appeal to riders who prioritize practicality over advanced tech.
Thursday, 17 October 2024 12:39 PM
The KTM 390 Adventure X, along with other variants, is expected to be showcased at the EICMA 2024 in Italy and may be launched in India in 2025. This global debut will provide a clearer look at the bikes final specifications and features. I think the anticipation around this launch is high, and it could be a game-changer in the adventure bike segment.
Mileage
Monday, 18 November 2024 04:04 PM
The mileage of the KTM 390 Adventure X is a crucial aspect for potential buyers, especially in India where fuel efficiency is a significant consideration. While exact mileage figures can vary based on riding conditions and style, the 390 Adventure X is generally expected to deliver around 25-30 kmpl in mixed riding conditions. This is respectable given the bikes powerful 373cc engine that produces 43.5 PS of power. In city traffic, the mileage might dip slightly due to the bikes tendency to buzz and require frequent gear shifts to stay in the power band. However, on highways and during long tours, the bike can offer better fuel efficiency, making it a viable option for both daily commuting and long-distance adventures. Ex Showroom Price vs On Road Price | Ex-Showroom Price is the Manufacturing Cost of the vehicle + Dealer/Seller Profit + GST (Goods and Service Tax) + Transportation Charges (from the manufacturing plant to the dealership). On the other hand, the On Road Price is the actual cost you pay to the dealership to make the vehicle legal to run on the roads. It includes Ex-Showroom Price in your city + RTO Charges (Vehicle Registration) + One Time Road Tax + Insurance Charges + 1% TDS. The On-Road Price also includes some optional things like if you opt for Genuine Accessories and Extended Warranty while buying a vehicle. Please note that the On-Road Price varies a lot across different states in India due to different percentage for the State Registration Charges. |
Discussions and Questions KTM 390 Adventure X
What does the lower seat height of the KTM 390 Adventure X do to its off-road capability?
15 January 2025 07:02
It has a lower seat height that is very good for building confidence off-road, especially for beginners. If you need more clearance, you can always add a taller seat later.
Is the KTM 390 Adventure X a better daily commuter than naked street bikes in the same price range?
15 January 2025 07:02
It’s the perfect commuter for me. It's comfortable, can take any road condition, and I don't worry about scraping the bottom on steep driveways or speed bumps.
Does the KTM 390 Adventure X make the trade-offs worth it when compared to the standard model?
15 January 2025 07:02
Not worth it in my opinion. Cornering ABS and traction control are those safety features that really could save your bacon if you’re not the most experienced of riders. It would be more than worth it to pay extra for peace of mind.
How does the KTM 390 Adventure X fair as a long distance tourer in comparison to its competitors?
15 January 2025 07:02
I’ve toured on both the X and the standard 390 Adventure. The X is honestly what I prefer for long trips. The money saved can go towards good luggage, and the simpler dash is less distracting.
Is the lack of electronic aids on the KTM 390 Adventure X better for new riders to learn on?
15 January 2025 07:02
Absolutely! Without TC and cornering ABS, you learn to develop a better feel for the bike's limits. It’s the difference between learning to drive a manual or an automatic.
