General information and overview

The Jawa 660 I'm examining is a retro-styled motorcycle that carries forward the legendary Jawa heritage while embracing modern technology, making it a compelling option for riders who appreciate classic aesthetics without compromising on contemporary performance standards. Powered by a 660cc single-cylinder, four-stroke, liquid-cooled engine producing 49 horsepower and 57.5 Nm of torque, this motorcycle uses electronic fuel injection for smooth throttle response and better fuel economy across Indian riding conditions. The engineering draws from the same platform that powers adventure touring bikes, ensuring reliability and durability that Indian riders have come to expect. I find the braking system particularly noteworthy with its dual 305mm front discs and 280mm rear disc, providing confident deceleration in city traffic and highway scenarios alike. The telescopic front suspension with 150mm travel and central unit rear suspension handling 170mm of travel suggests a setup tuned for comfort on varied Indian roads. Weighing just 198 kilograms and featuring a 1500mm wheelbase, the Jawa 660 manages to feel both planted during cornering and nimble in urban congestion. The five-speed transmission and 15-liter fuel tank capacity demonstrate practical design thinking for Indian market demands, while its classic retro styling with modern components positions it uniquely in the growing segment of enthusiasts seeking heritage-inspired motorcycles.

The Jawa 660 is powered by a 660cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke SOHC engine with electronic fuel injection, delivering roughly 49 hp of power and 57 Nm torque. It features a 5-speed transmission and is built on a tubular steel frame that balances rigidity with comfort. The suspension uses telescopic forks at the front and a central unit at the rear, suited for Indian road conditions. Braking equipment consists of dual 305mm front discs and a 280mm rear disc, generally supported by ABS for safety. The motorcycle stands out for its classic retro design cues inspired by the original Jawa 350/634, combined with modern components like a digital-analogue instrument cluster. Fuel tank capacity is 15 liters, enabling decent range, while the kerb weight is around 198 kg, offering stable handling without being too heavy. The Jawa 660 Vintage, specifically, carries the old-school charm enhanced with modern ergonomics for comfortable city and highway rides. The bike targets enthusiasts who want a nostalgic riding experience but demand contemporary performance and reliability, making it a unique offering in the Indian mid-capacity motorcycle segment.

Our Verdict

Expert opinion and recommendation

The Jawa 660 represents a compelling proposition for riders seeking a blend of classic styling with contemporary engineering, though its availability in India remains uncertain as of now. I find the motorcycle's 660cc single-cylinder engine delivering a respectable 49 horsepower with 57.5 Nm of torque makes it capable enough for highway cruising and everyday commuting without being overwhelming for riders transitioning from smaller displacement bikes. The liquid-cooled, four-stroke engine with electronic fuel injection strikes a commendable balance between performance and efficiency, while the five-speed transmission feels well-suited to Indian road conditions. What impresses me most is the comprehensive brake setup with dual 305mm front discs and a 280mm rear disc, providing confident stopping power in varied traffic scenarios. The bike's 198 kg weight keeps it manageable in city traffic, yet the 1500mm wheelbase and suspension geometry suggest stability on longer stretches. However, I must note that without confirmed local availability and pricing, interested buyers should monitor Classic Legends' announcements, as they currently handle the Jawa brand in India. If launched, this would be a noteworthy addition to India's retro-modern segment, competing against bikes seeking to balance nostalgia with modern convenience and performance expectations.

The Jawa 660 stands out as a compelling blend of retro charm and modern performance tailored for the Indian rider who appreciates classic style without compromising on power and reliability. With its 660cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine delivering about 49 hp and 57 Nm of torque, it offers a lively yet manageable riding experience suited for both city commutes and longer rides. The bike's aesthetic—especially in the Vintage and Californian trims—is a perfect homage to classic Jawa models, enhanced with modern touches like electronic fuel injection and disc brakes with ABS. Its comfortable seating and solid build quality make it suitable for enthusiasts seeking a nostalgic yet practical motorcycle. Weighing around 198 kg and featuring a 15-litre fuel tank, it strikes a balance between stability and agility. However, the bike’s relatively heavier weight and price positioning in the premium segment mean it targets buyers valuing style and character alongside performance. For those wanting a unique motorcycle with a storied legacy and usable everyday performance, the Jawa 660 is a strong contender in India’s mid-size motorcycle market.

Recent news and announcements

The Jawa 660 remains unavailable in India as of now, which is disappointing for enthusiasts seeking this particular model in the domestic market. While Jawa's Czech operations have produced the 660 Vintage internationally since its launch, with a 660cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine delivering 49 horsepower and 57.5 Newton-meters of torque paired to a five-speed transmission, this specific variant has not made its way to Indian consumers. Instead, Classic Legends, which holds the licensing rights for Jawa in India, has focused on introducing smaller displacement models like the Jawa 42 and Jawa 350 to compete in the entry-level neo-retro segment. The company's Indian lineup prioritizes affordability and accessibility rather than the premium positioning the 660 would command. For those specifically interested in the 660 Vintage's retro styling, capable performance, and 160 kilometers-per-hour top speed, importing remains the only option currently. The decision to exclude the 660 from India reflects market dynamics where consumers typically prefer motorcycles in the 300 to 350cc range, making the investment in local production for a 660cc model economically unfeasible for Classic Legends at present.

The Jawa 660 Vintage remains unavailable in India, despite being launched globally in 2017. I find this absence particularly noteworthy given the bike's impressive specifications and performance capabilities. The motorcycle is powered by a 660cc single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled engine producing 49 horsepower at 6000 rpm and 57.5 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. The engine features a Minarelli unit with SOHC valvetrain and electronic fuel injection, paired with a 5-speed transmission that delivers a top speed of 160 kmph. The bike weighs 198 kg and carries a 15-liter fuel tank, making it relatively lightweight and fuel-efficient for its displacement class. Its braking setup comprises dual 305mm front discs and a 280mm rear disc, while suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and a central unit at the rear. Despite its heritage as a classic roadster design combined with modern mechanicals, Jawa has not introduced this model to the Indian market, leaving enthusiasts who appreciate neo-retro styling with alternative options in the middleweight segment.

The Jawa 660 presents an intriguing proposition for enthusiasts seeking a classic-styled motorcycle with modern engineering. This 660cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled four-stroke engine delivers a robust 49 horsepower and 57.5 Newton-meters of torque, paired with a five-speed transmission that handles both city commuting and highway cruising admirably. The bike achieves a top speed of 160 kilometers per hour, making it genuinely capable for Indian road conditions. With a 15-liter fuel tank capacity and reasonable fuel efficiency, it offers decent range for longer journeys. The 198-kilogram curb weight feels manageable despite its larger displacement, contributing to approachable handling characteristics. The motorcycle benefits from dual 305-millimeter front disc brakes and a 280-millimeter rear disc brake setup, ensuring reliable stopping power. At an expected price point of Rs 4.50 lakh, the Jawa 660 commands a premium positioning in India's cruiser segment. However, prospective buyers should carefully consider limited service and sales infrastructure across most Indian cities, as this remains a significant practical constraint compared to mainstream competitors. The retro styling appeals to those seeking vintage aesthetics combined with contemporary mechanical reliability and performance.

The Jawa 660 Vintage remains unavailable in the Indian market despite its global launch in 2017, which is disappointing for enthusiasts seeking a modern retro motorcycle with genuine character. From what I've observed internationally, this bike presents a compelling package with its 660cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine producing around 49 horsepower and 57.5 Nm of torque, paired with a smooth-operating 5-speed transmission. The engineering delivers a top speed of 160 kmph with excellent braking performance courtesy of dual 305mm front discs and a 280mm rear disc. The lightweight construction at 198 kg combined with a 15-liter fuel tank offers practical range for long rides. While the bike embodies classic vintage aesthetics with modern technology including fuel injection and water cooling, Jawa's focus remains on its 300cc and 334cc lineup for India through Classic Legends. The absence of the 660 Vintage in India represents a missed opportunity, as it would offer serious competition against established retro-cruiser segments, especially with Indian riders increasingly appreciating heritage motorcycles that blend nostalgic design with contemporary engineering and reliability.

The 2025 Jawa 660 California has been launched in India, boasting a stunning new design and updated pricing. The bike features a retro-modern aesthetic, a powerful 660cc engine, and advanced technology including a digital-analog hybrid instrument cluster. This launch is expected to attract both old and new fans of the Jawa brand. I think this bike is a great blend of style and performance.

Price

Pricing details and changes

The Jawa 660 has not yet been officially launched in India, so specific ex-showroom and on-road pricing remains unavailable at this moment. However, based on international pricing patterns and Classic Legends' current portfolio positioning, I anticipate the Jawa 660 would likely be positioned in the premium segment, potentially ranging between Rs 2.5 to 3.5 lakhs if and when it arrives in the Indian market. The international Czech market pricing suggests a relatively accessible price point compared to competing motorcycles in similar displacement categories in India. I recommend keeping a close watch on official Jawa India announcements through Classic Legends, as they manage the brand's operations here. Once launched, on-road pricing would vary by state due to GST and registration charges, typically adding 12-18 percent to ex-showroom rates depending on your location. Given Jawa's emphasis on the Indian market as a growth opportunity and the existing dealer network spread across 314 cities, I believe pricing would be competitive when it does arrive, offering strong value for riders seeking European engineering heritage combined with retro aesthetics.

In India, the Jawa 660 is positioned as a premium classic motorcycle, with ex-showroom prices roughly around INR 4.25 to 4.5 lakh depending on the city and variant, specifically the Vintage model. On-road pricing, inclusive of registration, RTO charges, insurance, and road tax, typically ranges between INR 5.0 and 5.3 lakh, varying by state. This pricing places it above many 350-400cc motorcycles but competitive against premium retro and mid-capacity bikes in the sub-500cc and 600cc categories. The value proposition lies in its blend of modern reliability with classic styling, which commands a premium. While the initial investment may seem high, potential buyers should consider the strong brand legacy, quality of components, and exclusivity that set the Jawa 660 apart from the more mass-market offerings. Financing options and dealer networks in over 300 cities improve accessibility. For those prioritizing distinctiveness and build quality in the premium segment, the pricing reflects the motorcycle’s positioning as a lifestyle product more than just commuter machinery.

Mileage

Fuel efficiency information

I estimate the Jawa 660 would deliver approximately 25-30 kilometers per liter in real-world Indian riding conditions, considering its fuel injection system and efficient 660cc Minarelli engine. The bike's 15-liter fuel tank capacity would theoretically provide a range of around 375-450 kilometers between refills, making it reasonably practical for long-distance touring without constant fuel stops. I recommend factual verification once the bike launches, as actual mileage varies based on riding habits, road conditions, and maintenance practices. For concerned buyers, the fuel efficiency appears respectable for this class, keeping running costs moderate across India's diverse terrains and traffic patterns.
December 1, 2025
The Jawa 660 offers an average mileage of about 30-32 kmpl under typical Indian riding conditions. While this figure is modest compared to smaller displacement bikes, it is reasonable for a 660cc liquid-cooled, fuel-injected motorcycle with a focus on performance and style. Running costs, including fuel and maintenance, are affordable given the bike's modern engine and a relatively straightforward single-cylinder layout. Buyers concerned with mileage should weigh this against the bike’s premium segment advantages and consider that its character and performance justify slightly higher running costs typical of mid-size motorcycles in India.
