Can the Chetak 3501’s 153 km range be enough for urban Indian riders or is it still short of the mark?

To me it feels like it hits the sweet spot. A larger battery would translate into more range and weight, a higher cost, and more weight. 153 km is practical for most users without overengineering the scooter.
Can the Chetak 3501’s 153 km range be enough for urban Indian riders or is it still short of the mark?

The range is not important: it's the charge speed. Even a lower range is fine as long as it can charge quickly. I would rather be able to charge faster than have more range.
Will the Chetak 3501’s premium features matter to buyers when the electric scooter costs more than budget electric scooters?

Absolutely worth it! With a big brand like Bajaj, you are already looking at build quality and reliability. Plus, it feels like a proper upgrade from regular a scooter, thanks to those premium features.
Will the Chetak 3501’s premium features matter to buyers when the electric scooter costs more than budget electric scooters?
14 January 2025 10:51
No way. Scooters with similar features can be had for 20-30% less. They are just charging a premium because of their name. So I'd rather shell out for the cheapest one with the same specs.

It's a tough call. The features are nice, but you are competing with entry level motorcycles at that price. I don't know if all those fancy features are really all that necessary for city use.

If you’ve owned both cheap and premium scooters, you know the quality difference is noticeable. But the Chetak’s price might seem steep, it will likely last longer, and have better resale value.

I think it's overpriced. The idea behind electric scooters is that EVs should be accessible, but at this price point, it's still a luxury item. To compete with petrol scooters, they have to bring the cost down.

It’s worth the price, if you think about it as a savings on fuel and maintenance in the long run. The premium features also make the transition to electric more attractive for those used to high end petrol scooters.

The connected features are great! I feel more comfortable having the ability to check my scooters status on my phone. The display’s navigation is super handy for exploring new areas, too.

They are nothing but expensive distractions. I don’t want my scooter to be a smartphone on wheels. I’d rather pay a little less and have the basics – better range or faster charging time.

There are some features that are useful, and some that are not so useful. The music controls are great, but I don’t use it for the geofencing because it’s great for security. Whether it’s worth it is a mixed bag, it depends on what you need personally.

They’re not essential but they are nice to have. I like the effort to innovate, but I’m afraid that these features will become obsolete quickly. Will Bajaj continue to update the software for years to come?

It’s a definitely a game changer! As a daily commuter, it is a godsend to have extra storage space. Finally I can fit a helmet and a small bag of groceries under the seat. It also feels more stable at higher speeds, plus.

Gimmick alert! More storage is nice, but at what cost? The battery will take a beating from road debris, and I'm worried about that. What if you go through a deep puddle? It seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

I have to say I'm not really sure about this one. The handling is a bit different, but the increased storage is great. It’s a little bit of a learning curve, especially in tight turns. I don’t know if it’s better or worse, it’s just different.

I think it's brilliant as an engineer. A lower center of gravity should help stability. The battery may also be better exposed to more airflow, for better thermal management. It's a bold move that might become the new standard for e scooter design.
