Is the new floorboard mounted battery on the Bajaj Chetak 3501 a game changer or just a gimmick?

I love it! It feels more balanced, weight distribution wise. It’s a conventional scooter but with the advantages of an EV. Plus, no more hot seat summer with a hot battery under it!

I'll give them credit for being innovative. However, I am worried about long term endurance. How will the battery degrade faster being exposed to more vibrations and potential impacts? Only time will tell.

I’m a fan as someone who rides in a hilly area. It is easier to handle on steep inclines because it has a lower center of gravity. In certain terrains, it’s a small change that makes a big difference.
Is the Chetak 3501’s retro modern design on point or off for today’s young riders?
14 January 2025 10:51
It's a total hit! This is exactly what I want, the retro look with modern tech. Unlike all those generic looking EVs, it doesn’t try too hard. It’s also got that cool factor that gets heads turning.
Is the Chetak 3501’s retro modern design on point or off for today’s young riders?

Miss for me. I want my EV to be futuristic, not a retro throwback to my dad’s era. Bajaj, it feels like, is being too safe and missing out on the younger crowd who want something edgier.
Is the Chetak 3501’s retro modern design on point or off for today’s young riders?

I guess it’s clever marketing. Older folks who remember the original Chetak like the design, while younger riders like it for its vintage aesthetics. The scooters are like the Mini Cooper – classic but cool.

As a design student, I really like what Bajaj is doing here. They’re making a statement in a sea of otherwise similar looking EVs. It’s not just about being futuristic, it’s about having character.

I'm torn. Part of me wishes they would have gone all out with a super modern design, but I love the nostalgia. They couldn’t fully commit to retro or futuristic.
Is the Chetak 3501’s retro modern design on point or off for today’s young riders?

It's perfect for me! I’m in my 20s and I’m sick of every EV trying to be a spaceship. This is class and style without being boring. It's nice to see a design with some personality.

They've missed an opportunity here, I think. This design feels stuck in the past, when EVs are about the future. Some might like that, but I don't think it will be a hit with the tech crowd.
Was taking the front brake off the Chetak 4-stroke a step backwards for safety?
14 January 2025 10:46
Removing the front brake was nuts! That’s like selling a car with only rear brakes. Safety first, people!
Was taking the front brake off the Chetak 4-stroke a step backwards for safety?
14 January 2025 10:46
I rode one with no front brake, and to be honest it wasn't that bad. The rear brake was strong enough for city use.
Was taking the front brake off the Chetak 4-stroke a step backwards for safety?

Both brakes are definitely safer. Rather, Bajaj should have spent the time educating riders and not simply removing a crucial safety feature.
Was taking the front brake off the Chetak 4-stroke a step backwards for safety?
14 January 2025 10:46
Back then it was fine, no front brake, but today it wouldn't fly. That's a good thing, we've become more safety conscious.
Was taking the front brake off the Chetak 4-stroke a step backwards for safety?
14 January 2025 10:46
I think the safety feature was a cost cutting measure. More safety is what you get with more brakes, period.
Was taking the front brake off the Chetak 4-stroke a step backwards for safety?
14 January 2025 10:46
I never felt unsafe when I learned on a Chetak without a front brake. It’s knowing what your vehicle can handle.
Was taking the front brake off the Chetak 4-stroke a step backwards for safety?

Without a front brake, the scooter was lighter and more fuel efficient. There's always a trade-off.
Did the 4 stroke Chetak lose the 'character' that made the original special?
14 January 2025 10:46
Absolutely. Another generic 4 stroke scooter. The 2-stroke had personality!
Did the 4 stroke Chetak lose the 'character' that made the original special?
14 January 2025 10:46
Character is overrated. Cleaner emissions and better fuel efficiency? I’ll take that any day.
Did the 4 stroke Chetak lose the 'character' that made the original special?
14 January 2025 10:46
It’s a different kind of character. It’s smoother and more refined than the 4 stroke. That's not a bad thing.
